Where do I get a free makeover

I know some of you girls will know this...

ya'll know Im getting married...Im interested in finding out if having someone else do my makeup on that day will make me look any different than if I do it myself.

Arent there places you can go to get a free makeup job? I looked at places like Macy's on line and cant tell if their makeup counters will do a "freebie". I've heard some girls talk about going and having this done but Im at a loss as to how to find a place.

HELP

Most department store make up counters offer free makeovers, however since the makeup artist is spending their time, you are expected to buy a product or two (even if it's just a lipstick) because of their time spent.

Origins will do the same thing. Even stores like Ulta have make artists on staff and can help you select colors and show you how to do applications.

If you are doing this on a Saturday.... make an appointment first, because the women at the counter will be busy... Tell them it's for a wedding and you are trying out different colors and such (but don't tell them it's for your wedding that day)

Investigate the different makeup counters to see what colors you like, some are more natural looking than others.

Make up applications at beauty salons tend to not be that expensive, and if you are having your hair done that day or your nails done... they might even throw in the make up application for free.

Try Merle Norman, if you have one there. I'm pretty sure they do makeovers, and maybe for free, too. Its been a while since I got married, but I seem to recall that some places work out a deal like tux places do: if the bridesmaids buy a makeover, then the bride gets hers done free. And lots of places work out a deal for a group.

If you have a friend who sells Mary Kay, maybe she'll do y'all's makeup free in exchange for you hostessing a future Mary Kay party. I know lots of Mary Kay ladies who are more than willing to work something out with people like that. Plus, these days, they all take classes on how to apply makeup professionally... No more blue eyeshadow nightmares. *grins*

well my problem is that I dont have but one bridesmaid so there arent a lot of us to do something like that and get "free" stuff. I've just honestly never had a person put makeup on me and the places I've looked at that do stuff like that charge 500 bucks and up.

I just wanna see if I can do it myself just as well. Im in need of a new foundation so maybe I'll head up to the mall and see if someone can help me in exchange for buying some.

I have an ulta 3 and a merle norman right down the road so I'll check them out. Dave is working a lot of late nights so I was thinking of trying to go somewhere after work----I wont get near a mall on saturday's

I adore mary kay, its really the only makeup I like....but I have two female friends, only two....and one doesnt wear makeup...so a mary kay party wont work for me. I signed up for a new representative at the bridal show sunday so maybe if they contact me I can ask them if they will do a makeover.

As Maid of Honor for my friend's wedding exactly a month ago, I called the local Dillards in town and told the ladies there were four of us, and we were looking for makeup for the wedding. They let us come in Wednesday before the Saturday wedding, and they talked with the bride to figure out what kind of look she was going for, and spent about an hour on a test application. Once she was satisfied, they wrote everything down and kept it at their counter so that when we came on Saturday, they could be ready for us. They also did this for myself and one of the other bridesmaids who was in town. It was a pleasant experience, and while some of them did not make a purchase, the two of us who did bought enough stuff to make up for it. If you leave yourself enough time, this route is so relaxing. Have fun!

Perhaps you could call a few of the stores and ask someone at the makeup counters that you are looking for a new look for getting married and do the do makeovers and stuff. They might be willing to but just don't advertise openly. If they think they can make a buck you might get far.

I was going to mention Mary Kay. There was a girl that called me and I told her I only had one friend that could come and she was fine with it. You put your own makeup on but you get samples and they show you how to apply stuff. Might be a little easier to duplicate the look later if you do it yourself. Their stuff is expensive though - I use cheap stuff usually.

One thing I've done and have discovered a new color or something new that I liked this way - Give myself a facial. Use the exfoliators, the creams, and put on all the makeup I think might go together. I rarely use much makeup but I find new ways of applying it or new colors this way with just cheap colors from the store. I found a sea salt mud mask from the Dollar Tree that I love. It tingles and my face doesn't look as pale afterwords and is more smooth. I guess what I'm saying is that You don't have go all out or break the bank to get a new look.

Good Luck.

For a foundation to make your skin look good -- go to Ulta -- they carry the bare minerals line- and have tons of testers available... Give them a shot... I have Irish complexion (fair skin with rosey cheeks) and have never found a natural looking foundation until bare minerals.

The only foundation I've found that I like is from Merle Norman. The ladies are so nice and so helpful. They take their time with you and know what they are doing. I highly recommend a visit if, like me, you have trouble picking out your foundation.

Merle Norman does do free makeovers. I'd go with bare Minerals at an Ulta though, they use the more natural ingredients anyway so it's not as bad for you as the crap you can get other places.

Wow. Because I don't wear makeup, I can't help you.

But I think they do all that free stuff at Macy's. Just make an appointment and go. And if I were you, I wouldn't buy anything, just thank the lady and leave.

I went to Merle Norman once, a few years back, before a wedding... and never again.. the makeup looked good -- at the time... but once my face started to perspire the makeup felt like spackle -- it was put on so heavily and didn't hold up to dancing... that pictures at the end of the night of all the bridesmaids had to pretty much be destroyed. (and I managed to make it thru my teenage years with nary a zit - I wasn't quite so lucky after a trip to merle norman)

bare minerals website has a intro package for 60.00 that includes everything you need for your face (no eye color or lip color)
http://www.bareminerals.com/naturalm...oundation.html

Ulta used to have a trial kit that I think was around 20 dollars that had small sizes of the products (that was where i discovered it)

Just for grins -- go to the store and try it -- then go out into natural light and see how you like it - just wander around for a while with it on (that's the way any makeup should be purchased anyhow )

Shani, to give you an idea:

I spent about $60 on my powder/mineral veil/neutral concealer back in May of 2003. I'm still using the same stuff I bought. Granted, I don't wear makeup EVERY day, but my sister who does buys another supply about once a year. So the cost is well worth the longevity. I especially like using it because it does not irritate my skin, and helps to cut down on my acne. Plus, when I went to Ulta to look at the stuff, they put it on me for free to let me see how it looked for a day, before I actually went and bought it.

If you don't like the at Ulta, try going to your local Dillard's or Sephora (if you're lucky enough to have one) and go to the M.A.C. counter. They give make overs for free and show you exactly how to duplicate the look yourself. The colors that they have are amazing too. It's a bit pricey if you buy it, but a little goes a long way. My mother used Chanel for years and just started on M.A.C. and thinks that it's a better product for much cheaper. I love the stuff.

There are places that you can go and get it done for free, like Macy's and such but I'm not sure how good they are. They do have different shades and they are professionals but I am sure they won't do it better than you. You can try going to a place that wants to advertise their stuff, like a make-up specialty store, they usually do it for free and take pictures for their advertisments. Good luch. :-)

Boy I tell you what...I bought some St. Ives apricot scrub yesterday....good fucking lord what a difference it made in my face....yes Im one of those women that isnt big on spending bucks on beauty stuff and spending gads of time using scrubs, masks, peels etc.

I cant beleive the difference it made with just one use....lol and my daughter is now addicted to a new word...I also bought a loofah and she asked me what it was for and I told her exfoliating....I swear she said that word 100 times in the following two hours.

Dave was real impressed with the scrub too...he said my face had never felt so smooth......his skin gets dry around the back of his thighs and his butt so he let me use some on him this morning while he was in the shower.....talk about a baby smooth butt He's hooked now too...he said his rear end felt good in his boxers.

well yesterday was a BLAST....I knew I was in for a good time when I got to Ulta 3 and the makeup girl...stephanie, was a goth type chick...I was immediately at ease. I'd almost cancelled it cause the weather was so crappy and I had a headache and really didnt feel like going.....glad I didnt!!!

She did a fantastic job on me, little too much blush but I never wear it so ANY would have looked like too much. I have chimpmunk cheeks and blush just seems to make them stand out more lol

Dave came up to watch and he told me that while I do a good job myself, he'd never seen my eyes look so green when I was wearing makeup.

We had such a good time with stephanie that by the time I'd left we'd exchanged phone numbers, email addy's and she wants to see our wedding so bad she's offered to do my makeup for free that day in exchange for an invitation!!!

It seems we've found a new friend
