The Body Shop (at Home)
Hey all,
There's a consultant for the Body shop that had some flyers around campus today, so I picked one up and emailed her to see what the deal was. Apparently, it's the same style as Avon, Pampered Chef, yankee Candle, etc. in that you provide materials for a host who throws a party, then give people a chance to order Body shop items (same ones in the malls) from a catalog. The Party package options are Foot Fun, Your Face is Forever, Spa Experience, and Makeup. The consultants make a 25% commission off the of sales from the parties. Has anyone else done this consulting, hosted a party, or went to one of the parties? I was thinking of maybe pursuing this on the side for some "ME" money, and wanted to see if anybody else had any experiences with this.

I tried selling Avon when I was in college, and used to do it as a party type thing
Hosting a party is pretty simple (yah right)- invite 10 -15 friends who might have some money to spend, and invite them over for an evening. Serve some food (cookies and coffee, cake, something inexpensive you could make yourself) and put out the test products. Body shop products are good quality - and everyone knows the brand. Doing it as a spa thing would be fun... Since I was getting 30 percent commission on everything i sold - I used to give a 10 percent discount if a person bought more than one item... and 15 percent if they bought more than 3 items. I didn't make a lot of money doing it... but it gave me gas money and beer money. Body Shop products would probably sell better. How are students set wiht disposable income at your school? Or would you hit up neighbors and friends outside of school? WOuld you have 10 people available for regular parties that would spend money?

That's my only thing - all my friends are poor like me. My mom is a teacher, and a lot of the ladies she works with are in their late 20's and early 30's. I was planning to target them more than my friends, since they're not paying for school, most likely.

I used to sell Mary Kay (don't laugh!!). The real key is to be able to branch out and reach people...if you personally don't know many, tell friends to invite a friend. Or, pass flyers out like the person you found out about this from did. See if the company sponsors a website with a consultant locator. Body Shop stuff is good, and lots of women enjoy going to parties, they can be really fun. Opportunities like this can actually work, but you have to put the effort in and make it happen, they definitely aren't easy. Good luck if you decide to pursue it!!!

What kind of initial cash output do you need to sell Body Shop products - Avon, I don't know if it's still true, used to be something like 75 dollars initial cash outlay, then you paid for all your "tester" products... plus you paid for catalogs, bags, testers to give to the customers (ya know those stinkie perfume in an envelope samples)
That all adds up eventually.
