Had the first date... help from here!

This was really my first date... believe it or not. I need some advice. I thought it went well, we left with "It was nice to hang out, let's do it again sometime." and he said "Call me." So that votes for good right? He initated the first date, so it's only fair that I call him next... right?

I feel kind of bad because I have such a hard time maintaing eye contact with people... Espically people I like. ;) I think he understood since I said that point blank, but I still feel funny. Any pointers?

Hey, if he said to call, you should definitely call. (Trust me, if a guy says that...it's a good sign. It's hard to keep my boyfriend on the phone anymore... ) Anyway, just keep working on the eye contact stuff, and I wish you luck!!

How long should I wait? Call him tuesday?

Averett 05-03-2004 03:02 AM

Call him tonight. God I am so sick and tired of all these rules where you have to wait x amount of days before calling somebody or you'll seem desperate. Screw that. Find yourself thinking about him tonight? Give him a call.

But don't listen to me. Guys don't call me, I don't get guys numbers, guys don't ask me out. And I'm 26 and I have yet to have a real first date. So what the hell do I know?

Do whatever you feel like, and don't worry about what he or anyone else thinks- that is what can really wreck a relationship, even if it is just in the dating stage. If you feel like calling him right now, do it. You have to establish something from the start, and that is that you do things your way, and not someone else's.

Definitely give him a call. Maybe he thinks if you call him, that is your way of saying, yeah i had a good time with you and i'd like to do it again.

And feel free to call whenever you want. Guys don't pay attention to 3 day rules. Just as long as you don't call him multiple times a day or day after day you will be golden.

Remember -- be yourself. Sooner or later you will have to reveal your true self to him. Do it now, when it is less painful. If he doesn't like you for you, then he isn't the guy for you.

Hey, so what happened?

jRuntlets 05-10-2004 09:26 AM

Well, I called him - he's intrested. I knew he was older than me (which I'm used to - since guys my age can't keep it in my pants I date the older crowd), but it turns out he's drastically older than me... so we decided it wouldn't work, due to the fact that we both work in a small intertwined community and no one would be overly happy about the age gap.

Averett 05-10-2004 09:34 AM

Aww thats too bad... Next one eh? ;)

jRuntlets 05-10-2004 12:52 PM

Yeah, I'm really disappointed because he was so fantastic.

So how much older is drastically older?

jRuntlets 05-10-2004 08:24 PM

erm, well let's just say the spanish blood in him hid his age well. I'm talking like 10 years older. :P

cherriesue 05-13-2004 02:42 PM

When I was 22 I dated a guy that was 35, he turned out to be a major asshole, but I don't think there's anything wrong with dating older men. I've always dated older men. If you like him and he likes you I don't see why the age is a problem...unless you're a minor

jRuntlets 05-13-2004 09:07 PM

I'm not a minor, thankfully. He's just a tad out of my age range right now. In two years, it'll be acceptable in the places we work to date, but not now. We work with a bunch of gossipy old hags, which could make or break either of our carrears.

cherriesue 05-14-2004 09:34 PM

well that sucks...it seems like you really like this guy...oh well...if it's meant to be it will happen in 2 years
