Belly Button Piercings?

I am just curious as to how many of you have your belly button pierced?

If so, are you happy with it? Did it hurt?

If not, why not? Would you consider it? or not?

I am seriously thinking about doing it and I wanted some advise. I don't deal with pain very well and I cannot stand my belly button touched! But, I think it looks nice pierced and I want to do it for me, to make me feel better about myself. SO if it takes a few seconds of pain to do it, I think I can handle that.

*Nikki* 04-23-2003 05:44 AM

Yes I do.

No I really didn't hurt but for a split second. But then again I LIKE that kind of pain.

I love it. The first two weeks are brutal, if you can get past that you will be ok.

Go for it!!

Xapphire 04-23-2003 05:55 AM

Hehe, my dad paid for mine for my Christmas present the year after I was married. He asked what I wanted, and I told him, one of the best gifts I've ever gotten because it was something I specifically wanted and got without having to hint forever :P

It didn't hurt at all to get pierced, but the next 2 weeks did suck, especially since I was nursing my first daughter and she kept grabbing the damn thing.

I still have mine, I've only switched the rings twice, the first time to a really pretty curved barbell with a gemsetting at the bottom, and the second time because the barbell wouldn't have made it through my last pregnancy. Now I have to go find the barbell again

Missy 04-23-2003 11:26 AM

I have had mine pierced for over three years now. Like mentioned above, it didn't hurt much to get pierced but was a bit tender for the next two week or so. I go back and forth between barbells and dangly piercings :)

sierra2774 04-23-2003 06:39 PM

Well, I did it Today....It really did not hurt at all, but it is a little sore now...I think it looks great! I am so excited!

Xapphire 04-24-2003 05:04 AM

Yay! *whistles at Sierra's sexy new jewelry*

It's fun isn't it?!

onodrim 04-24-2003 09:14 AM

So it didn't hurt to bad huh? Onodrim starts giving the belly button piercing some thought...

SexyCat 04-24-2003 09:31 AM

You have to be careful though. A few years ago my then roommate got hers pierced and it got infected and according to her it hurt a lot. She ended up taking it out because it got so bad.

sierra2774 04-24-2003 09:50 AM

It really did not hurt at all. The only thing I felt was when the needle first touched my skin, but I did not feel it going through. It hurt more when I got my ears pierced.
And yes, you do have to be careful but as long as you follow the aftercare instructions, you should be ok.
It is a little tender Today but not real bad, It is not even red, I am just not used to having something there.
I think it looks really nice! I can't wait to show it off!

:D I'm the same way. Alpha phi thinks I'm a little nutty because of it....as I always say "A little pain is ALWAYS good" ;)

anyways

No I don't have one..Was interested but my aunt got hers ripped out because her dog jumped up and got his nail caught in it.....My larger dog likes to jump up on me too...so I don't want the same thing to happen...even if I wanted to now...I wouldn't cuz my belly button isn't as cute as it was before my surgery :(

Plummie 04-24-2003 12:34 PM

Ouch, that would hurt for the ring to get ripped out!

I've had mine pierced for almost ten years (since I was 15) and never had that experience. I usually wear a curved barbell and it's nice and simple. No problems at all.

It will take typically about 6 mos. or longer for a belly piercing to heal completely, so take good care of it and wash with hibiclens (an antimicrobial soap) at the first sign of any infection. Enjoy!

sierra2774 04-26-2003 11:27 AM

Here is my update...It looks great, I love it. But it is a little tender and sleeping at night has become more difficult because I sleep on my Stomach. I know that this will eventually go away and it is bearable, it is when I forget and rub up against it with something.. I just want to get the curved barbell too and she said I could not change it until it is healed. But I have the one picked out I want.

I've had mine done for almost three years now, and that is one thing I specifically remember. It won't last too long though.

The worst thing that happened with me and my belly ring is when I got picked up for a DUI and had to spend the night in jail (that's a whole other long story).

The woman who strip searched me made me take it out. This was like 2 weeks after I had it done. So, I had to leave it out for like 24 hours, I thought for sure it would close up and I'd just wasted my money. Luckily, it wasn't too difficult to get back through. It did hurt a little worse than the first time, but I didn't have to go have it re-pierced.

Ah, the memories...:)

BlueBongo 04-27-2003 11:19 PM

I don't want to get my belly pierced.... but I am going to eventually get "down there" pierced.... I'm looking forward to it :)

I had my belly done once... but I took it out after a week because I realized nobody would see it. Didn't help me out at all... but I think my new piercing when I get it will rock :)

Agreed. I have 3 more piercings to get. Clitoral hood, and nipples.

I need to go look up a website, but a friend showed me the most gorgeous nipple jewelry, wanna share the site with y'all, get your opinions.

edit: Okay, I found it... http://www.ladyring.dk/ it has some awful midi playing as you open the page, but I hadn't seen anything like these before, so I can ignore it ... what do y'all think, would those actually fit properly? There's a sizing guide, so I would think they'd be pretty decent.

edit2: I like the classic the best, but I have really big areolae, would this make a difference in how well it looked?

strickendumb 04-28-2003 07:43 AM

It felt like getting your ears pierced. Only it doesn't seem to throb afterward. When I got mine done the first time I freaked out when I saw the needle sitting on the table, but I got through it. My bellybutton was fine at first, but it got infected and I couldn't seem to get it to heal. I dropped a box on it at work, and that's when I decided to take it out and let it heal. The second time I didn't have a problem with it. I've still got it and I'm thinking about a second hole in my bellybutton.

Wow! That is really sexy!

My boy and I were just talking about nipple piercings last night, and he thinks they're kinda bulky and clanky and get in the way. I said that I just don't care for the barbells that seem to be the only option for the piercing. I didn't think they look feminine enough (for me).

But those are really sexy!! I'm gonna send my boy the link and see if he likes 'em.

Thanks for posting that link. :)

I was wondering..if anyone still checks this thread out..I was thinking about getting a bellybutton pierced..but never show my belly(intentionally anyways). But I wont take it out like for those reasons like Bluebongo did. And I dont get erotic stimulation from my bellybutton like other people do, so Im not intrested in getting it to enhance stimulations like my friends did. My ears always get infected from an earring..even gold or silver..after ive cleaned them properly both earring and ears. Do you think that would be the same for a bellypiercing? I hope not...but do you think I should still do it?Sierra2774 said it hurt more to get your ears pierced..i had them done when i was younger and it did hurt., but thats kinda reassuring.

G0dd3ss 05-04-2003 07:06 PM

Mew, reminds me of a little kitten. :) Cute!

Anyway...I don't show mine off at all and I certainly don't get any type of erotic pleasure from it. I just personally liked the way it looks. It was really something that I wanted to do for myself rather than for a boyfriend or something.

As far as the pain compared to ear piercing...I really thought it hurt more to get my ears pierced. But my ears are really sensitive. And to answer your question about infections...I used to always get infected ears from earrings. It wasn't until I learned to keep them in and clean them and let my ears adjust to them for a while that the infections went away. I didn't have any occurence of infection with the belly button.

I say go for it, but give it a chance to heal properly before getting discouraged by the discomfort and clean it regularly!!! I used saline solution to clean mine...it did the trick.

i know what you mean ... i pierced my ears a second time by myself and enjoyed it and i love waxing my legs. haha.

Xapphire 05-05-2003 05:18 AM

I think it would be different Mew, but do you have reactions from wearing less than gold jewelry? rings whatever?

I used neosporin to keep my belly button piercing free from infection, and it helped it while I was having to turn it, because you do need to slide it from one side of the ring to the other and back again to keep it from healing -to- the ring. My step-mom got hers done a year ago though and they just told her to use soap and water, so I'd say to just definitely follow the directions they give you diligently and you should be good to go.

i too have a friend whose belly piercing got infected... she said that the tenderness from the infection was 10 times worse than the piercing itself...

from whatever everyone has told me... just make sure you take care of it in the beginning, so it has a change to heal properly... after that you should be fine...

good luck! :)

sierra2774 05-05-2003 11:14 AM

Well two weeks later, it is healing nicely. It doesn't hurt at all anymore, it is just a little red but I really like it a lot. Sleeping is much easier now too!

annie1 05-05-2003 01:42 PM

nope, not me

mew 05-05-2003 07:17 PM

G0dd3ss:Thanks, my nick is actually supposed to be about that and not the Pokemon thing, which upsets me-since i had it way before pikachu arrived.LOL
Xapphire:Yeah of course if i were to get piecred i would clean it diligently. i do with my earrings...as soon as i put them on it gets kinda pusy and my ear tries to heal over the ring, which is kinda gross. But i tried to use alcohol even when i have them on. Jewlery is fine..rings and necklaces are no problem any kind of metals..cept the copper that turns your skin green if you wear it for too long. But thats about it.

Concertina 05-05-2003 07:19 PM

I've had mine for over 4 years now....I like still like it, actually....

Didn't hurt, but man, was I nervous! Don't really wanna pierce anything else....have the ears, and the upper ear....I think I'm done...

Gotta question for the nipple-pierced ladies.....have you breast fed since, and did it cause problems for you in any way?

m

Xapphire 05-07-2003 05:24 AM

Concertina, I've read that it doesn't change whether you can nurse or not, you just have a bit more preparation, because you need to take the piercing out before doing it.

I was going to get mine 2 years ago, and then a month later when we had the money and I had the nerve, I was pregnant, and since it took my brother's a really long time to heal, I wasn't going to risk still being sore when I had to start nursing.

*flip flops from waiting impatiently for baby to grow up and be done nursing, to not wanting her to grow up anymore at all*

sierra2774 05-27-2003 05:01 PM

I have another question...Mine has been pierced now for about 5 weeks...It is really not sore, but still a little red...Is this normal??

My Friend tells me it looks infected but I don't think so....It is just a little red and it only hurts when I wear jeans that lay over top of it. I have been trying to wear the lower rise jeans and that helps.

Xapphire 05-28-2003 04:30 AM

Sounds like it's still a little sensitive, still healing, I'd put neosporin on both sides of the piercing and run the ring through from front to back and again to ward off anything, and just let it be. Sounds like you've got it covered though, low rise jeans are the best *grins*

Geekgirl 05-28-2003 09:06 AM

I've had mine for 3 months now, and it's STILL sore, but I always get infections from earrings and such.

The thing that my peircer has me do that REALLY works well is sea-salt soaks. A little warm water in a glass with some iodine-free sea salt. You just put the glass against your belly button and it will suction there and let it soak for a few minutes everyday. BIG RELIEF.

sierra2774 05-28-2003 09:14 AM

Thanks...I will try the sea salt and see what happens.

I'm gonna go and do it now! I have some, she told me to use it too, but I really haven't much.

AlmostParadise 06-05-2003 06:23 PM

Just stay away from Neosporin (sp?) it will dry out the peircing and keep it from healing right. Mine took almost a whole year to heal because that's what i used.

redrose2 06-05-2003 07:46 PM

hehe, funny story for you all!

My S.O. got a Prince Albert Piercing last summer before I met him. He is a super nice guy and somebody you would NEVER suspect as having a gentile piercing. Anyway three days later he had an erotic dream and woke up screaming!! Apparently when he got it pierced he was so cold on the operating table that his penis had shrunk in size. The artist under estimated the size of the ring to be placed. So when he became errect the tissue between the pierced hole and the eurethra grew larger than the diameter of the ring. This caused it to start tear and basically bend around the ring! He got it removed after having to break it to his parents! LOL... his mom was in shock. He had to switch to another doctor because his old docter also doubled as a pediactric doctor who wore stuffed animals on his stethescope. Anyway he still has the ring and the receipt to prove it, but the scar is almost gone.

For the ladies interested in nipple rings... I was just talking to a friend the other day and she told me something about having to wear cut out tennis balls while you sleep to keep any pressure from disrupting the piercing. Have any of you heard of that aftercare suggestion?

Atropos4 06-06-2003 05:19 PM

That story took a turn that I DID NOT expect. OUCH!!!!!!! At least he's healing. ;)

Alexandra 06-09-2003 01:42 PM

I'm gonna pierce my belly button after the summer, I know I will like it :)

(vixen) 06-09-2003 02:20 PM

i got my bellybutton pierced yearsago, and mines always been fine. i havent had any trouble with any of my piercings. i had my nipple done, that was fine until i was shopping a couple of hours later + a fat ugly man 'accidently' bumped into my boobs. that hurt like hell.

getting my clit done was fine too. they didnt freeze it, coz apparently that makes iut hurt morein the long run + leads to problems. it was like, well, a sharp, quick stab, then it was uncomftable for a couple of hours, but not enough to really bother me.

and its well worth it. i have to spend 2 hours a day on a bumpy bus, and it is WELL worth it... ;) hee hee...

as for aftercare, i dont believe in it.i mean, basic keeping clean. ie baths / showers as normal, just double check the relevent area. and, well, i wear the same underwear as before, no probs with underwire bras, g-strings, anything (or nothing, if thats what you wear. indeed). my girlfriend, who also hasa nipple peircing, has had a breast reduction since she got it done, and there werent even any problems with that.
