Dress For Success. It's a good book and an even better women's organization.
I don't follow fads closely. I don't spend a lot on clothes. I watch color schemes and general cuts of clothes that are highlighted on current television, clothing catalogs, and Elle magazine. I take this knowledge base and figure out my wardrobe within the guidelines I develop. I do my best to put care and effort into my appearance, from hairstyle to shoes. I always try to dress appropriately for the occasion, be it a bikini or a pantsuit. I am nearly always slightly overdressed, but I can adjust quickly by removing makeup or letting down my hair. In my mind, there is no reason to scoff at all fashion. It is such a multi-faceted arena that everyone will find something that they enjoy, if they are only willing to look.

No, I don't pay attention to fashion. I don't care about it. I prefer classic clothes, and given what I do for a living, being fashionable is definitely not a part of the job. I wear what's comfortable, what's practical, and what is easy to clean!

I like fashion and it's a huge part of history. It's fun to follow trends to know what to look back on in the future. Fashion defines eras. It's also funny to see how history repeats itself through fashion. You can tell when a higher up in the fashion industry was raised...looks come back for nostalgia. Some things from the 80s should have stayed in the 80s though.
I love fashion magazines. The photographers and clothing designers are artists. That's how I follow fashion. I can't afford the clothes, but appreciate the artistry and would wear them if I could. I do believe in going to thrift stores and vintage shops as it's a way to recycle clothing. What I select is based on my personal style which is influenced by the fashion industry. The fashion industry does affect a lot of us more than we know it. Unless you're buying/making your own homemade clothes, you're following high fashion. Even in making your own clothes, a lot of fabrics in stores are influenced by the runways. It's hard to escape. "...I see. You think this has nothing to do with you. You go to your closet and you select... I don't know... that lumpy blue sweater, for instance because you're trying to tell the world that you take yourself too seriously to care about what you put on your back. But what you don't know is that that sweater is not just blue, it's not turquoise. It's not lapis. It's actually cerulean. And you're also blithely unaware of the fact that in 2002, Oscar de la Renta did a collection of cerulean gowns. And then I think it was Yves Saint Laurent... wasn't it who showed cerulean military jackets? I think we need a jacket here. And then cerulean quickly showed up in the collections of eight different designers. And then it, uh, filtered down through the department stores and then trickled on down into some tragic Casual Corner where you, no doubt, fished it out of some clearance bin. However, that blue represents millions of dollars and countless jobs and it's sort of comical how you think that you've made a choice that exempts you from the fashion industry when, in fact, you're wearing the sweater that was selected for you by the people in this room from a pile of stuff." - Miranda Priestly, Devil Wears Prada. (Definitely movie...can't remember if it was in the book or not. I think there is a similar scene in the book. Meryl Streep delivered the line so perfectly that it's hard to forget.) I wouldn't be as "mean" as Miranda Priestly, but I agree. |

Nope. I may look at a magazine while waiting but I dont much care. I am alright with wearing my heavy metal t-shirts and sweat pants as my Bf loves me the way I am. I would rather be myself then pretend to be someone I am not.

I'm not into haute couture (i.e., high fashion) by any means, but I'm very much into personal style. I've worked hard at creating a wardrobe of clothes, shoes and accessories that I love to wear and that, hopefully, gives people an idea of who I am and lets them see me as I want to be seen. It's important to me to feel good in every outfit I put together. I hate leaving the house feeling not quite like myself because I feel like my outfit's not projecting who I am. How I'm seen by others and the person I project to the outside world is important to me, so I do my best to make sure I can meet that need. Nothing in my wardrobe would be considered 'high fashion' or trendy, since I don't follow popular trends or the fashion industry. But I know what looks good on me and what I like, so I've created a wardrobe to keep me happy.
