Tatoo vs. Belly Button Ring
Recently I decided I wanted to do something but am a little confused about what I really want to do. If I don't chicken out of both!!
I was thinking of getting a small tattoo on my shoulder blade, somewhere thats not going to be noticeable ALL the time, if for some reason I didn't want it showed or something, but could if I wanted to, so my shoulder blade seemed like a good place, then it could be seen all summer long when i wear tank tops or a swim suit. My husband however mentioned he would rather see me get a belly button ring,(not that he doesn't want me to get a tattoo, he doesn't really care) he just thinks that the belly button ring is sexier! In my opinion the tattoo may hurt more when I first get it done vs. the belly button ring, but in the long run after I get the tatoo its over and done with, but the belly button ring can get infected or worse. Ripped out! (That happened to my niece, it got caught on her belt, and when she stood up it ripped out!) But Im only 22 years old and later in life a tattoo may be something I regret but its a little to late, and a belly button ring can just be removed and that's that. Like I said I will probably chicken out (I'm a total wussy!) But I was just curious who all had a tattoo and/or a belly button ring. If you have both which do you like best? Thanks for you comments |
I agree with your reasoning at the end of your last big paragraph. A tattoo is permanent, even when you're old and wrinkled and in the nursing home. You can let a belly button ring grow closed when you get tired of it.

I agree, I think a belly button ring--it's not that different than earrings as far as it getting infected goes. Just take care of it and I think it is a lot sexier than a tatoo.

Get both!!!!

I gotta go with the belly button ring, too. It just leaves you with more options later.
If you get the tattoo and decide you don't want it later, then you're SOL (with the exception of expensive removal). But if you don't get the tattoo and you want it later, you always have that option of getting one, even if you are old and wrinkled in the nursing home. |
I find all pircings and tattoos hot!!!!!!
But I have my bellybutton pierced and a tattoo on shoulder blade as well as several other body mods! Now I must say neither hurt AT ALL. Risk of infection of either is highly unlikely just follow aftercare instructions. And also to rip out a belly button ring takes a lot of clumsyness. Both are as safe, painless and attractive as each other...... get both done! :) |
I've wanted a tattoo for a loooong time and when I turned 40 I decided I was going to do it. That was last year. Just this past spring I FINALLY found the artist I want to use. Now it's a matter of scheduling the time to go there (it would be a weekend trip) and deciding on the location (I want it to show).
If you are the LEAST bit hesitant about a tattoo - don't get one. I personally wouldn't get a belly ring because that would require me exposing my big fat belly! :) Maybe when I lose all this weight ... |
I only have a belly button ring, so I would vote for that. But, be careful because the healing time for it is long!! At least in my case.

I wouldn't just make a quick decision about a tattoo. Make sure it's a design and in a place that you will appreciate for your entire life. I have a black dragon on my back that I've had for 2 years and I still love it. It didn't hurt at all for me, so I wouldn't be afraid of the pain issue. Just make sure it's something that you want. A belly button ring isn't as permanent, so I would think about that too. Good luck either way!

I vote for the tattoo just because it's something that can be totally unique and special. Unlike piercings, there are a number of different places you can place them, and innumerable choices for designs. I have a small shamrock on my right hip, and I absolutely love it. True, maybe I won't in twenty years, but like every scar and knick on my body, it helps to tell the story of my life. Anyway, that's my two cents. :-)

It took me ten years to decide to definitely get a tattoo, and another three to choose what I wanted, but I don't regret it. I think belly button rings are sexy, but since I've had two children my abs aren't what they used to be. may as well show off that flat tummy while you can!

my sister has her belly button pierced. she was pretty bad about cleaning and stuff, but it ended up healing alright. it did start to reject, but it just moved out a bit and then healed. so it sticks out a little, but it looks ok. also, she had another piercing reject, so i think it was just her body. but it is a possibility. every person i know with a belly button ring has said they've had a slight to moderate infection. i think it is because it takes so long to heal and it's not in the safest place. but most people i know have had success long term. i mean this is a piercing a lot of preteens get so it can't be that hard to take care of. i would definately go for the belly button ring, and think about the tattoo. as many people above have mentioned you have to be sure. if you're looking for other suggestions, i have a tongue and lip ring and i absolutely love them. and they really don't hurt, especially lip. although be prepared with tongue to avoid solid foods for a day or so. hope that helped some and i wasn't just rambling for no reason. let us know what you get.

I have both. I love both. I'm planning on getting another tattoo. Mine are all in places that can be covered by clothing. I've pierced my belly button twice, the first time myself. Very erotic. I highly recomend it. The tattoo is a longer investment. Make sure it's something you like, and will like in twenty years.

I have a belly button ring :) they dont take a lot of looking after and if you don't like it you can just leave it out.

i have a belly button ring and im going to get a tattoo on my right shoulderblade and my lower back my friend is drawing them for me. i would get the belly ring first if youa re carefull it is all good mine was only sore for 2 weeks and i havent had a problem since then good luck

I have a belly botton ring and it didn't hurt at all to get it done. Taking care of it was kind of a pain though because mine kept getting infected. A tatto is permanent, and alot more painful. I've been thinking about getting one, but I'm one of those really indecisive people and would probably regret it down the road. I would go with the belly button ring.

I have a tattoo on the small of my back and I love it! I also had a belly-button ring but unfortunately my body rejected it and it came out. The tattoo means a lot to me and I went with friends to get theirs so I would so how it was. I picked something that meant a lot to me and something that I could deal with for the rest of my life. It was one of the best experiences I have ever had and I can't wait to get more.

Getting a tatoo close to the bone is very painful; a piercing is just a pinch and some pressure, and it's over. I personally wouldn't get a tatoo, but I'm okay with piercings and minor scars from healed ones. I don't have any tatoos, or a belly button ring, but I do have two tongue piercings and four ear piercings (two closed). If I were you, I'd probably get something else pierced because belly button rings are just no fun.
|
I have 2 tattoos and I'm addicted. I want another one. I also have a couple of peircings but I would NEVER get a belly button ring (too many people have them.) But that's my opinion.
|
I have to agree that tatoos are way too permanent. I could never get one just because of that. I think they're really cool and it would be fun to have one. But I tend to get tired of things fast, so I'm afraid that I would get tired of a tattoo. And with a belly button ring I could at least take it out. But I agree with Jonsgirl in saying that too many people have belly button rings. That's why I didn't get one of those either.

I have my belly button pierced and I do agree that they are reaaaaaaally popular right now and it seems like everyone has one, but one of the reasons I got it was because it was either that, or a tattoo.
I was (and still am) terrified that I'd get an "AWESOME" tattoo and end up hating it and having to spend hundreds (thousands?) on laser removal. Ah hell. I'll admit it. I'm a puss and scared of the pain (although a buncuh of friends of mine said the piercing hurt worse than any of their tattoos...) |
