Crafts?

Just wondering if anyone knew of different crafts that I could check into? I'm looking for something that I can teach myself since I work a late schedule.

I love crafts!! Lately I have been doing cross stitch, painting a shelf for my babies room, and scrapbooking is always fun too.

All of these things you can do whenever you have a free moment and at the same time feel productive when you see your finished work.

knitting, crocheting, cross stitch, jewerly making, scrap booking, paper crafts, greeting card making, pottery, photography, quilting, painting (like painting boxes and stuff) stenciling..

Check out your local Michael's or other craft store and wander around and see what strikes your fancy and your budget.. some crafting can get pretty pricey...

Crafts can get expensive and if you don't have people that would like to have your craft, you will either end up with a house full of your craftiness or tossing it.

I took up painting. I enjoyed it and did it for awhile. Wan't sure what to do with all the painted canvases lying around the house so when we moved I tossed them. Well, all but 2 because my parents wanted one and one of my friends loved the abstract butterfly thingy I painted. There was one painting that I did that I did want to keep, but it diappeared...anyway, way off topic there.

I used to cross-stitch. I enjoyed it and it was very relaxing and easy to do while watching TV. I also did this with my step-daughter when she was younger, but she didn't like it so much. Knitting I really wanted to do. But I find it very difficult. I've been trying to make my scarf for 2 years now...I don't even have one line yet.

But really, find something that you enjoy. As Mal said, walk through Michaels or Craft 2000 or JoAnne fabric and see what strikes you as interesting. And if you decide to make potholders..you can send those my way...mine are getting old and I don't feel like making new ones just yet.

Crafts are fabulous! It is a good cheap way to make it through the holidays... making your own gifts!

I just need a craft that's pretty easy to do. I've been doing knitting but I don't understand the gauge bit, yarn overs, that whole lot and no one I know knits. So I'm out in the cold.

What is cross stitching?

cross stitching is needle point or embroidery type stuff... easy to learn, not so easy to get good at it.

Around X-mas, my mom and I make little xmas tree ornaments. with wine corks, you can make reindeer out of them, make some angels with tea towels, I'll have to talk to my mom to give you directions on how to make stuff like that if you're interested. they always seem to do well at craft sales though.

I'm an artist....but I love crafts too! I grow gourds, pyro engrave them with a wood burning tool, and paint them. Abstract baby.....
I would like to try making hats....just simple stuff with old sweaters, felt, stretchy stuff......Maybesome kind of fabric purses too....felt is easy, fun and cool!
Anybody got any ideas for cute Xmas decrations? I always like making the ones where you use mostly cinnamon with some applesauce and roll it out like cookie dough, cut out stars, angels, trees or what-not and let them dry. (You put a hole in the top for a pretty thread before they dry though) Then you can decorate them with pearlescent fabric paint, glitter, or whatever....and they smell spicy and festive when hanging on the tree.

Origami is fun, IMO, watercolor painting, oil painting, and like someone else said, the scrapbooking is fun too since there's BILLIONS of different things you can do for that.

crafting rocks!

nothing better than working with your hands. My favorite crafts are scrapbooking or any form of papercrafting. I haven't bought a store bought greeting card in years!

Some other popular crafts right now are knitting and distressing everyday items into works of art.

I hope you find something fun for YOU!

Ever consider making art dolls? There's a magazine, which is really hard to find here but I imagine really easy to get in your neck of the woods called ART DOLL and its absolutely amazing and inspiring. You just need a little sewing ability and a lot of imagination and its only as expensive as you want it to be.
And, depending on how detailed you wish to be, one doll can take months to complete (and its a fairly portable craft).
I thought of this after reading about the gourds and etching into them, people use gourds for doll making as well.

I am a big fan of scrapbooking. I find that purchasing a Slab of paper is a great start. They make paper selection a no-brainer, since every page coordinates with every page. You can also make fun cards out of it.

I also really like to make boxes. I take the cardboard from old cereal boxes and cut them up, making them into handy, decorative boxes to be used for wrapping small gifts or personal pencil holders. It's very easy to glue pretty calendar pages, or newspaper clippings to give them a personal touch. On the inside, I like to line them with gathered tissue paper, to mimic a velvet or silk lining.

So many cool ideas here...I'm gonna have to try some of these!
I love scrapbooking...I find it very absorbing, and very stimulating for my sense of creativity :-) And the cost is pretty much up to you...there's lots of expensive, nifty gadgets out there, but I find that I rarely use the few ones I have. I find it a lot more challenging and fun to see what I can create with what I already have.
Besides the creativity and satisfaction of working with your hands, it's cool to have something to pass on to generations...I wish my great grandmother had made scrapbooks about her life and family.
