Dress Question
A male member wanted me to ask you ladies a question:
"My daughter has her School formal coming up, and she has chosen a beautiful strapless gown with a lace up back. Now even though I'm a bloke, I just know she's going to spend the whole night pulling it up! If we tighten the laces from top to bottom, or from bottom to top, will it make any difference?" and the pics. of said dress: (FINAL PICS. Further Down in Thread)

top to bottom will probably keep it on better... but not too tight, where it's tying to is probably a little on the delicate side... if it's pulled too tight it might snap when she breathes or boogies..
maybe some double sided tape or even super strenth duct tape to keep it up...

Personally, I have to disagree with top to bottom on two principles. Number one, tight at the top and loose at the bottom will make her silhoutte look goofy and squish everything. And, number two, if the dress is tight around her midsection it won't be as prone to sliding down because the bulk of the dress (the foofy part at the bottom) will be supported by the corset top resting on her hips.
If it was me I'd have her wear the dress around the house for an hour laced one way, then another hour laced another way, and see what works best for her ![]() That said, the dress is SUPER pretty ![]()

I've never been able to wear my corsets laced from the bottom up and not have them slide, maybe its just the way I was built?
I agree on having her wear it around

That is a gorgeous dress, elegant and a little sexy without being over the top.
It shouldn't matter how the laces are tightened. Any bit of movement is going to even out the tension after some time. If I remember my strapless days correctly, and it's been about a decade, there are adhesives that can be used on the upper portion of the bodice to help hold it in place.

Toupee tape, or the double sided side for fake mustaches and the like (lol, I had to buy a minumum of 200 of these for the fake mustche I've worn maybe 3 times).
Umm, NO on the duct tape! It would look bad and hurt like the dickens to remove, and will likely ruin the gown lining as well. Gorgeous dress! Looks like it fits properly too, if that wide gap in the back is expected--it doesn't gouge into her underarms, which is the main way strapless dresses can look bad. Yes, do get her to wear it for a significant length of time, if for nothing else than to get her accustomed and comfortable with it. So many young ladies in their first strapless gowns look like it's wearing them, rather than the other way around....

I have no further advice than what's been given...so I'll just say that's an absolutely gorgeous dress, and what a dad for buying it for her

That is a gorgeous gown, by the way. And she should also walk around in her shoes if they're heels.

Her dress is lovely and i agree that she should try the dress with shoes beforehand for comfort and preference in regard to the lacing sequence. Hopefully dad or a dear auntie has provided a fun antique beaded purse and shawl to accompany her lovely choice. Please send final pictures as some of us don't have daughters and would love to see her off on her way....
Thanks for sharing! This will be a special night for her and it's grand that you care enough to ask all us ladies. hunnychile

I have to agree with Sage. If she snugs it around her waist (since it looks like she HAS a waist) then the flare of her hips can hold up the weight of the skirting. Then the weight of the dress won't be so much pulling the bodice down on her breasts.
Also agree that she should practice wearing it (with her shoes) and get comfortable. The pictures kind of look like she is trying to hold it up with her upper arms. Lindy |

Wow what a fabulous gown!
I wore a similar one for my prom last spring. Mine was blue but with a larger poof bottom, along with being strapless and extremely heavy. I went to the tailor to have an elastic band placed inside to tighten around my midsection just below the breast to help support all the weight of the tull. On this dress it might be wise to add such an accessory just below where the lace-ups begin to help support. If it's tight enough fit it should be fine, if not go to a tailor and have them do an insertion of a couple holes so a small strap can be inserted and wrapped around to help. Hope that makes sense! Again, what a beautiful dress! |

That's a gorgeous dress!! She looks fabulous. Oh, how I love strapless dresses with big poofy bottoms...
![]() However, I must ask, does her man prefer the "tough" look? He needs to smile more, with a lady like that at his side!! ![]()

What car? What guy? Oh to be 16 again (actually, I was not so blessed at 16, lol). Did she practice wearing the dress and shoes?
