Origins of TFP??
Im curious about the origins of TFP, I was going to just send Halx a mail but I thought It might be better to get input from those of you that have been around since the start (or near). Besides Im kinda scared of him, Dont ask me why.
Having joined just weeks before V.3 went under (RIP) I wonder what V.1 & 2 were like. What happend to V.1 & 2? (If its too sad to talk about, I understand) Has this community always been like this? How does this forum succeed when countless others fall victim to hatred & spam? When did it all start? WHY did It start? I would also like to thank All the moderators for thier tireless work, You diserve trophys for what you (we??) have created. Peace. |

I've had many of the same questions, magpie. I was going to ask them one day, but you beat me to it.
As I troll through various older posts, I run across names with the word "banned" written under it, so I assume that Halx and the other Tireless Moderators speak softly and carry a big stick.

there's no need to fear Halx or the mods (unless your a total stain) they're here to help and they're also the number one reason why this place is as good as it is. I wish I had more history for you but alass...I do not. although....I do have this theory about Halx needing a place to show off his third leg.
Halx, we love ya man!

I, like Rogue, will defer the question to Halx or BuDDaH or Zerocool. I came on I think right near the end of v1 and let me tell you this: this place has changed and improved a LOT since then!
But, like I said, and rogue said before me, Halx and/or BuDDaH and/or Zerocool could definitely answer this best as I think they are the longest remaining members.

ok children.. gather 'round and I'll tell you a story. The story of TFP. It's not really spectacular, but it's what you asked for.
So, a long time ago, I created a gaming clan called TBA. We played Unreal Tournament Instagib, and (maybe I'm gloating) we were the best! Well, at least we were in Team Deathmatch. Undefeated. SO ANYWAYS, since I've got my bragging out of the way, here's the important stuff. We had our own message board. It resided at tba-ownz.org and it was created so our bad-ass members could hang out and be rowdy away from the main community message board, which was censored and full of stupid IRC-like sillyness. We called that board 'Disneyland' and so in contrast, we called our board 'This Aint Disneyland, Bitch!' Our board consisted of 4 main sections... General Discussion, Titty Board... Amen (TBA), Ownage Board, and something else that I forget. Time went on, and as gaming usually goes, things got really dramatic around our clan. I think we broke up and reformed 3 times in 2 years. Eventually we all couldn't stand eachother - every single clan in the community had at least 1 former TBA member and so every match we'd play, there was animosity flying all over the place. I called it quits on the gaming, and the clan dissolved. So months after the dissolution, I sat there with an empty message board. I renamed it the Tilted Forum Project (I didn't like the name at first, but I wanted to name it SOEMTHING else.) Nobody came around anymore except for ZeroCool, so it was pretty much a barren landscape. I had been visiting a site (you might have heard of it) called Fark.com and I had a little urge to put a link up... to what I did not know. So it hit me, I have a Titty Board. Fark has boobies links. A match made in heaven. I went into Fark's irc channel and hung out one Sunday morning (Jan 20, 2002), and I asked one of the moderators if they'd post a boobies link for me. They took a loot at my site, asked me if the server could handle it, and I said sure. So I submitted the Titty Board link and they accepted it. Incoming traffic! So for the rest of that day, I was updating the Titty Board like mad, to keep the people happy. A few peeps registered and posted a few pictures of their own - that was the idea. Time went on, and more and more people kept visiting through Fark... so many in fact that we ended up busting into the top 25 boobies links page. Ok, I had all this free traffic, all coming for free boobies. That's great, but I knew I wanted more than that. I had no more online community to hang out with because I had left gaming. I figured I'd create one for myself. What do I want out of a community? Well, after seeing first hand what happens when you let people run rampant, I came to realize that I really didn't enjoy being caught in all that animosity. I wanted to feel safe enough to share my feelings and have people share theirs with me. With that idea in mind, I created a few rules that I sought to enforce, and I started using some tactics to siphon people away from the Titty Board, into the general discussion area. Who would have known it? Porn surfers are just like anyone else. Before I created this site, I would have told you that porn surfers were a bunch of shady delinquents who have dirty vocabularies and hairy palms. I have learned a lot since then. So, the TFProject has had 5 different hosts, with 3 complete rebuilds. I estimate we've processed about 100K people and over a million posts. There are a few message boards that are larger and more popular, but that only means my job isn't done yet.

nice.... I didn't know about the tba-ownz part... but I did originally come from that first fark link... amazing! I was amazed!!!!! I still am amazed.. not from boobies anymore but from the community.
I do remember the inital 2.0 board... I remember the first crash... and of course the most recent. this place is a great place to spend some time being a voyeur and also jumping into the fray and adding your own comments. thanks halx... it's been a great ride so far.

That's a fascinating story, Halx.
I myself got linked here through a place called full-auto (www.full-auto.com) which does there own small titty board in addition to class 3 weapons. I wish I could remember who it was that put up the link because I know I would thank them. Anyway, I can say that I still haven't been to fark. I don't see the point now

heh I didn't know about the game clan either.
i still remember seeing it on fark like something crazy. i came, registered (I think i was WhoaitsZ, then) and d/l boobies. i was on dial-up. i'd click a link, go to another window... in ten to twenty minutes the pics would be loaded. i saw it on the boobies top 25... and i knew it'd rise... then , what, a month? it took over #1. conqured GOOGLE. Google. it beat google thats crazy anyhow. i always wanted to post but couldn't ever find space.... later on after it going up and down up and down i took a few identities cuz i never posted and got deleted. as for why, i don't know. call it idiocy. i went through a lot of names with a Z in them. i kept bugging a friend to check you guys out and he asked me if i ever looked at the threads. me being a bbs guy never did... didn't care to... untill i got bored one night. then i fell in love with it... i was StillZ. then it died.... now we're here. i enjoy watching things grow.. i'm odd, though. i lurk on several diff things on the net.. when i... accept people, i jump right in.. act like i've been blabbing with ya for years. but since i lurk i know many of the people's personality, so its an easy transition. it's great. hmm. lost my point ps: Halx doesn't scare me at all. he seems very honest and high mischevious. it's the conivers and power trip folk i do not like. |

I would love to see a timeline. I think I got here when most of us did. I think it was April 2002. From Fark. When did TFP 1 go away etc.
Great story all. Bones made me laugh about the carpet square.

Oh what a cool thread~
I arrived at the last incarnation of TFP. Arrived I did, at a kind of subtereanean point in my life. By way of Fark and Boobies did I come through the portal and after the glorious sheen of Free Boobies kind of wore thin(along with most of my palm prints) I discovered a whole 'nother world. The Lit board was, after a while, and for a time my most immediate form of gratification. A N Y W A Y- who'd a thunk that this world was born of the old Unreal. Fraggin' A! Oh, and Hal. Your Halo's showing

Sometimes it's good to be feared.
Sometimes it's not so good. A lot of people assume that I dont have time to chat, for instance. Thus, I remain a lonely guy. I do get a good reaction from what I say, though. As far as the ass-kissing goes, I'm not accustomed to receiving compliments, and I really dont think of myself as all that great. Sometimes I'll play it out, but I believe the best compliment you can give a stranger is to find them interesting enough to want to get to know them. With that in mind, I'd rather people used that kind of compliment on others in the community. So let me get back on subject and say that running the TFP is like playing Sim City. Sure, I'm giving up all of my free time to do it, but it's fun to see it grow and develop. As with the game, if you expand too fast in areas that are not needed, you can crash pretty hard. I'd say that I'm doing well at my own private Sim City. I get the impression that the Mayor Approval rating is fairly high. We have enough resources to expand when we need to. The only thing we lack right now is links to outside territories. I'm a geek!

I was actually wondering the other day where TFP came from.. I thought that maybe it was just a data flux in the internet spacial time continium that Hal might have stumbled across and made it his own.. but alas.. it's still all good

Great history Halx
The Fark "comments thingee" about the TFP is still up in the top boobies section over at Fark. http://forums.fark.com/cgi/fark/comm...?IDLink=102266 It's kinda like the TFP's own federalist papers. |

I couldn't wait....
My story: I used to play the same game Halx did, but I was in one of the top European clans. I heard of the "Best of the West Clan" called TBA and went looking for them. (Halx in particular, he was the best they had.) I found them but to my dismay, Halx "retired" and no matter how much prodding you gave, he would'nt play anymore. (He had his hands full with the board, and mostly because the other fools ruined the game.) So, I stuck around and after chatting with him abit and hanging around, things started to pick up quickly and I offered to give a hand since ZeroCool joined the Marines. Since then, a friendship was born, and so were the "SnakeBrothers". After V.1, I suggested to to hold tighter reigns on TFP and Halx first rejected the idea until he saw a need for "someone" to crack a whip, and ofcourse, I seen no problem with that.. Halx is the kind of "real-easy" going kind of person and I have a "drop at the speed of gravity" temperment. We are so alike but also so "night and day". (Much kudos to silent but effective, ZeroCool.) Since then, I've seen alot of people come and go...

I was also going to ask about the orgins (once did in IRC but I asked "when was it orginally founded?" and got answer that "there was no one date, it just evolved" and thought "right, gotta ask again when they are in better moods.." ) but saves me the trouble. I think a lot of people are intrested in this and other questions apart the technical stuff in the board FAQ another FAQ for just TFP would be good.

I knew about the Fark link from others later but actually found TFP through stickfigurepeepshow. Don't know how I got to Hal's personal site but if memory serves me correctly there was a link to tba-ownz on it. This was last March. I lurked around for a couple of weeks, decided the place was "safe" to hang out in an the rest is history (or addiction...).
