Pedophobia
I'm not looking to changes the rules around here or start some heated debate (or make someone mad and get myself banned), I'm just curious as to why there's an absolute ban on pictures of children.
What brought this up was I started a thread in another section about fireplace safety and included a stock photography image of a fireplace hearth gate that just happened to have a couple of children playing in front of the fireplace. I got a PM shortly thereafter from another member telling me to alter or delete the image. |
it's just a safety precaution .. simple as that.

How do you determine if a photo of a child crosses the line into child pornography? A kid in a bathtub, nude? A photochop with a clothed child and a nude man? It is easier to just ban all photos of people under 18, that way no one gets hurt.

I think it just keeps away the wrong sort of freaks and ensures that the site retains it's inculpability.

exactly so...

Because, that way there is no question, and there is no bickering over any percieved gray area. None...at all.

That rule is a Very Good Thing. I was quite pleased to see it when I signed up. I'm quite clearly biased as a father of two small children, but I believe that anything that helps keep kids safe is a worthy cause.
You won't find pictures of my boys anywhere on the internet, I've heard too many stories of sickos stalking children who they saw online. It may make me sound paranoid, but that's part of my job. I can afford to be overly cautious and wrong an infinite number of times, but I cannot afford to be careless and wrong even once. |
I'm always slightly disappointed when I see people, especially on message boards and blogs, parading their children in front of strangers. I don't think people realize the possible reprocussions.
