First....welcome to all.

To answer your questions:

Hidden Zones open up when quality posts are recongnized by the staff. The criteria generally entails contribution to the community as a whole.....whether through excellent quality of posting, or a certain accumulated number of posts. We prefer the quality over quantity scenario.
The "Avatar"will be availible at the same time....simply use the community for its intended purpose, and you will gain these things in no time.

By the way....certain boards have no bearing on post count...nonsense being a primary example.
