Avatars, and The Case Against Post-Count Rewards.
I'm new.
Avatars are used to identify people. It's like a face behind your name. Don't you think that avatars will help newbies become regulars faster? You're practically giving the poor people higher taxes. How do you expect them to go to work? Second. Many abilties (such as custom avatars, custom titles, forum access) become available after you post a certain number of posts. Don't you think that would encourage newbies to post many useless posts? Like in "quantity over quality"?

Since some folk change their avatars on a regular basis I don't really use them as an identifier.
I look for names I recognize and whose posts I enjoy reading. Members who are active and post quality content always stand out. Having an avatar is just icing on the cake for being an member of the community. |

Everyone here is pretty helpful, but we are people (human) just like you - we get tired of repeating the same thing over and over.

Just relax and get involved. Find some threads that intrest you and post. Perhaps you could even start a few threads of your own. Just ignore post count. Get involved in the community. |

I agree that was a bad analogy.
And I wish I could ignore post counts, but post counts do mean a lot here. The fact that you can't get an avatar till your post count reaches 250 kinda proves it. Thanks for the happy wishes and all. I'm already getting involved in the community. And I really like it here.

I don't think they mean a lot. I got somewhere near 250 posts, actually, my last check was about 280. It's kind of nice for the other forums, but more often then not, you'll see me in forums that ANYONE can get into. Like redravin said, the avatar is just icing on the cake. For some people, such as myself, I had to have avatars turned off because for some odd reason, Jad's boobs might offend someone at work...
Just enjoy the community that has been created here, and you'll be surprised about some things. |

I remember TFP before the "Great Purge" It was 20 people posting and 20,000 lurking, never contributing anything.
Sure it sucks to have to claw your way back up to your former status but the rewards are well worth it when you finally achieve them. Plus It filters out the trolls and flamers. |
