Help with avatars....
Ok, I've found the avatar I want to use, now when I try to change my avatar it tells me the file is too large, my question is how can I adjust the pixels so they meet the 100x100 standards ?? Any help would be appreciated, Thanks

Got it, Thanks
|
Oh . . the avatars are the little pics . . forget I was here
|
Do we have to have a certain amount of posts to have an avatar as well??
|
yup
|
Ah... I'm glad I found this thread. How many posts must one make before they're considered avatar_OK? :-P
-edit- Never mind. Found it in another thread. 250?! That's a bit steep just to set an avatar. Well, I'll stick around and see if I can add anything to the community... and if not, well... nice place you got here! |
i use mspaint to fondle pics and make them avatar size
|
iPhoto works too, for those mac-geeks among us. :D
|
how do I even post an avatar in my profile?
|
gotta earn it first stickyrice. active participation is the key.
|
I seeeee
I wish I had more to talk about |
Well, you could always take a trip around the world, maybe in some sort of lightweight hovercraft.
Then you'd have loads of stuff to talk about, like what kinda crazy shit Japanese McDonald's have. Or just do what I do. |
Paint shop pro is what i use

Can someone tell me how active? |
As was mentioned in a reply in this very thread, 250 posts till you can have an avatar. But don't spam nonsense. Like this.
|
thats a lot of post!
|
I think 250 isnt enough, honestly. I think more than 1000 should be needed, would show more of the true posting members..

1000 posts is a lot..
|
Ok, so I need to get to 250. I'm not quite half way there yet. Do I have to keep checking my profile on my number of posts or will I get some kind of message letting me know I can use an Avatar?
Personally I think a 1000 is a bit much also. I think 500 is a good number, it shows a lot of comittment and not quite as hard as 1000 to meet. |

it's no big deal tho..just keep an eye on it. :) |
Your posts add up before you realise.
Just add your 5 cents worth in each thread that interests you... Then you get addicted and need to visit 5 times a day! |
if the number were too high there would probably be more spamming from people just to get their post counts up. 250's probably fine i guess
|
thanks for the premission :P
|
I went to CNet.com and downloaded EasyThumbnails, you can make any pic any size u want and thats wut I used to shrink the pic for my avatar, just incase yall run into the same problem I did.
|
Gambit was the best X-men..X-man..whatever.
Took me like 3 months to find the toy when I was 9.. |
I remember on another board, we instituted post counts for levels, and it was spamming at first. But it all toned out and we could care less now a days.
I was searching for info about avatars too, good thing I found this. |
Try IrfanView it has a few built-in tools. One of them is changing the size of the picture without the loss of its quality. Also you can save it in almost any format. However it only runs on windows. Sorry Linux and Mac users...

testing avatar
|
250? damn! i guess i might as well shove a turkey baster up my ass. i like to read and occasionally post... but not that often. i joined back in april and 6 months later i'm just over 50. i won't get an avatar untill 2005 at that pace!
|
While I can see the reason you want to encourage participation with perks, I would think avatars is one thing that should be left on.
From my experience with other forums, an avatar is almost esential for people to recognise you. People tend to stick round longer and be more active if they are recognised. Just my $0.02 |
be recognized by participation.
Who cares about a little picture? It's not like we're stealing your soul or anything :) |
When reading a thread I generaly don't notice names, just avatars.
I don't care that much. |
I'm with Orthanc on this one.
|
stick around for a week or so, give it some time and see how you feel then. Participation is a keyelement of our little community here. I personally tend to remember people by their "actions" and not by the little 100 by 100 picture they use to represent themselves here, because for a while there.. no one had avatars. Heck.. sometimes i have mine turned off and i cant see anyone elese.. Its better to make a lasting impression on people by your personal contributuions than relying on the avatar because as the crash from version 3 showed us.. it could all be gone in an instant.
Stick around guys, i assure you It wont matter once you get more involved. |
On my old board, you do remember people by their avatar. When someone changed it, its like they are a new person. "Where'd tiser go??".
Most video apps will encode direct to an animated gif in your specified resolution. Its great. |
