What is "Tilted"

As you can see by my post count, I'm new here, and I'm looking forward to discussing sexuality, religion and poilitics intelligently in an environment where flaming and other stupidity found elsewhere is quickly doused.

So what does the word "Tilted" refer to? What is tilting?

Well, your viewpoints, hopefully. We're all here to learn and continue our evolution as humans.

Flaming, as you've already seen, isn't really tolerated here. If you're the victim of it, just let anyone on the staff know, and we'll take care of it. As far as stupidity goes, I'm afraid that there's no known cure. I, for one, am certainly guilty of occassional bouts of it, as I'm sure some folks here will be happy to point out.

Tilted suggests a change in perspective...something we achieve here through our discourse with one another. Our goal is the evolution of humanity, sexuality, and philosophy...and as we evolve our perspective...we become Tilted.

tilt
n.
The act of tilting or the condition of being tilted.

An inclination from the horizontal or vertical; a slant: adjusting the tilt of a writing table.
A sloping surface, as of the ground.
A tendency to favor one side in a dispute: the court's tilt toward conservative rulings.
An implicit preference; a bias: "pitilessly illuminates the inaccuracies and tilts of the press" (Nat Hentoff).
A medieval sport in which two mounted knights with lances charged together and attempted to unhorse one another.
A thrust or blow with a lance.

A combat, especially a verbal one; a debate.
A tilt hammer.

Many members engage in medieval jousting events in their spare time. It becomes bloody at times, but the ritual persists. The name just stuck.

Maybe I'm an optimist, but I always thought of it as one leg longer than the other.

I spend most of my time in the Politics forum, so I assumed it meant "tilting at windmills." Don Quixote might have something to add to the conversation.

Since I am the world's TRUE pinball wizard, I have my own interpretation of Tilted. To me, it means going full throttle (or full-tilt boogie, as Janis used to say) until you've finally pushed too hard and fucked things up - but only for a few seconds. After that, you get to start all over as if nothing happened and continue your game right where you left off.

But just keep in mind that I'm talking about an actual pinball table and not some crappy/shitty video version. In the real world, the little washer that swings back and forth inside the machine to cause a tilt needs some time to settle back down before you can resume your full throttle game.

And that's exactly where I am right now on TFP - I'm just letting that washer calm down a little from my last tilt. I'm playing it easy for a bit. Relax. Take it easy. Nice and calm.

Trying to push and use that body-English to get the most out of my game without causing another tilt too soon.

I wonder if they'll ever do like a CSI:Panama City Beach and use "Pinball Wizard" as The Who song du jour?

Tilted to me means 'off-center.' I think it describes this place pretty well.
