Yet another reason to have lots of sex.

(For those unable\unwilling to click the link) Hot sex treats common cold - 12/10/2004 12:34 Majority of people consider even minor throat irritation or mild fever as a good-enough excuse to isolate themselves from their loved ones. That is understandable, of course. Up until recently, this was regarded as a logical move. Not so long ago, however, scientists were able to prove just the opposite: it is better to be sick together. This obviously does not mean that one should purposely sneeze at his/her partner. In this case, the effect will be minimal. It is important to battle the disease. And as for microbes, hot passionate kisses and good sex is something they fear the most ? concluded Manfred Schedlovski, a Swiss researcher from Zurich. In the course of his lengthy neuroimmunological experiments, the scientist arrived at the conclusion that sexual intercourse has a positive effect not only on the overall physical condition of both partners but also on their immune systems. Phagocytes are to be praised for the marvel. Phagocytes are cells that help the body rid itself of various ailments. This is how they work: once they locate an alien body, they penetrate it and trigger self-destruction. During sexual intercourse, number of phagocytes tends to increase significantly; oftentimes, number of these cells almost doubles after orgasm. This in turn enables these cells to detect and destroy antibodies more quickly. Shcedlovski's research results have already found support among his colleagues. Immunologist Peter Schleicher also shares the initial hypothesis of his colleague from Zurich. ?Not only does sex heal our organism; it also sustains its immune system,? stated Peter Schleicher in his interview to Bild am Sonntag. I thought this was interesting. Conventional wisdom (that I follow) often leads me to staying away from loved ones while I am sick. Now we have even more reason to get frisky with our loved ones. |
after the last two months I can say that this is bullshit hehehehe dave and I had a lot of sex and I had a cold from november thru new years

I've not noticed a difference, mostly because I have an extremely efficient immune system and rarely get sick -- sex definitely clears a stuffed nose, however.
On a side note, this follows the logic that I have always followed with my life. Isolating yourself from sickness NEVER helps your immune system. The more you isolate yourself from germs (like bubble boy) the more powerful and potentially deadly a new strain will be. I pride myself on having a strong immune system, something I attribute entirely to exposing myself to mild "doses" of germs. How do you think immunizations work? When my SO is sick, I spend just as much time around her as any other time. I want to see her, and I want to get a small dose of her germs. That way when I get a full dose of the germ in the future -- blamo, immune system kicks its ass. |

When someone I care for, I guess, let's say, SO is sick, I'm usually around like white on rice. I leave work early, sometimes even take time off to take care of him. I cater, spoil, watch them sleep, and in the meantime I usually forget to eat or even sleep cause I'm waiting for a phonecall just in case he needs something, and I guess the small dose of microbes would be an added bonus (???) At that, I have never caught a cold from someone who was ill that I took care of. Oddly, when I'm sick, I stay in isolation...I'm pretty miserable and usually get depressed. I had an SO once who was with me the whole time I was ill..he baby'd me and it made me feel so loved -- ironically, he's now about to finish medschool... Aside that, no one has really catered to me in that manner, to tend to me every 10 freakin minutes..I mean I have people that bring me things, watch me for a minute and then go about their merry way... But anyway I'm going off topic.... |
The article says the cells increase after orgasm, not the act of sex.
Maybe I didn't understand it, but this article says nothing about your partner not catching germs from you if yall have sex. |
carnnn why you gotta burst my bubble like that.... :D
|
i never let a little thing like germs stop me, but thanks for the info

Like Jinn Kai, I also think it's dumb to isolate yourself from sickness. Hell, you'll never build a strong immune system if it never does anything. |
There ought to be a special kind of doctor for this kind of thing, to administer 'treatment' :) Wouldn't require much schooling but the hours may be long. *cough* I think I feel a cold coming on... DOCTOR!!!
|
I know whenever I have sex it always clears up a stuffed up nose. I'm not sure why..does anyone know? Maybe it happens because of the movement involved..perhaps going to the gym would have the same effect then.
|
I suppose I should find someone to have sex with, then. I very well may wind up saving the money I've been spending on zinc. :p

Most of the time I have to do all the work :D |
if it works or not I am still going to try to sell it to the G/F... ;)

agreed, I had heard that the endorphins helped cure headaches.. but now that the phagocytes are in action .. maybe I can talk her into a little hanky panky when were sick .. like we are now .. trying to get ofer this 3 weeek cold
:( |
What about masturbating?
|
The article said it's due to the orgasm, not the sex.
|
I've known for some time that this is an effective method of treatment and prevention...whenever I feel a sniffle coming on, I get me some hanky-panky.
