Hurricane Season Officially Over

I got this off the National Hurricane Center page for Tropical Storm Zeta, the last tropical storm of 2005, now only finally dying out to sea in the Atlantic. Some weary, brain-fried meterologist at a disk covered with coffee mug rings and crumpled bits of paper wrote the NHC's final message for the season:

SHOWER ACTIVITY HAS CONTINUED TO DECREASE AND IS NOW LIMITED TO JUST A FEW SKINNY BANDS OF SHALLOW CONVECTION WELL TO THE EAST OF THE CENTER. AS SUCH... ZETA NO LONGER MEETS THE CRITERIA OF A TROPICAL CYCLONE... WHICH MEANS THAT BOTH IT AND THE 2005 ATLANTIC HURRICANE SEASON HAVE ENDED....

...I SUPPOSE IT IS ONLY FITTING THAT THE RECORD-BREAKING 2005 ATLANTIC HURRICANE SEASON ENDS WITH A RECORD BREAKING STORM. TODAY... ZETA SURPASSED 1954 ALICE #2 AS THE LONGEST-LIVED TROPICAL CYCLONE TO FORM IN DECEMBER AND CROSS OVER INTO THE NEXT YEAR. ZETA WAS ALSO THE LONGEST-LIVED JANUARY TROPICAL CYCLONE. IN ADDITION...ZETA RESULTED IN THE 2005 SEASON HAVING THE LARGEST ACCUMULATED CYCLONE ENERGY...OR ACE... SURPASSING THE 1950 SEASON. SO... UNTIL THE 2006 SEASON BEGINS... UNLESS ZETA SOMEHOW MAKES AN UNLIKELY MIRACLE COMEBACK... THIS IS THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER SIGNING OFF FOR 2005... FINALLY.

FORECASTER STEWART

Take a break, fellas. You deserve it.

They say we're in for years of increased Hurricane activity, wouldn't be surprised to see another crazy year next year.

So, hurricane season is officialy over? Good. Let's hope that the NHC remembered to CC Mother Nature with that memo.

Yeah, those poor guys at the NHC were REAL busy in 2005! I don't think there will ever be another hurricane season like 2005 this century.

please don't say that...

there is still quite a bit of time left in this century and mother nature will take quotes like this one and throw them back at everyone in one whimsical little laugh.

Like Paq says....that's asking for it. The old Greeks had a word for that -- hubris, an overweening pride or surety in yourself or your view of the world. A bout of hubris was often followed by, say, having Athena turn you into a giant spider. Or a lightning bolt from Zeus.
