ATTN: pianists! help!

please tell me title of this song if you can!

edit: added a few more lines of notes, to help more easily identify the piece... :P
should be easy for anyone whos played piano since youth...
unfortunately... i havnt

who composed it? and what is it's title?!

C C B C A C G C F C E C D C C C
B B A B G B F B E B D B C B B B
A A G A F A E A D A C A B A A A

A Ab Gb Ab A A

sound reference
http://briefcase.yahoo.com/bc/paulko85@sbcglobal.net
sorry about quality, i used my cellphone to record it lol

i also dont know if those lower case letters have any significance in sheet music... but i meant for those lowercase (Ab Bb etc) to be the notes for the black keys of a piano.

im sure anyone who can play that in their heads, and know, can tell me... :P

i believe it's a piano piece that is tought to beginner or mid level students. (unconfirmed)
classicalish...

It could be one of hundreds of thousands of songs. Are the notes all quarter notes, or do they have different values? Is the song major? Minor? Is it classical, new age, rock, boogie?

I have a degree in music and several years under my belt earning a living as a classical musician, but the letters you've provided don't give any context to their duration, frequency or rhythm. You'd really need to take a picture of or scan in the sheet music to give a better insight into this particular song.

I might know what it is. Assuming they are all of equal rhythm, it seems to be a finger exercise. I used to teach my piano students with a book called "Finger Power". This book included songs intended to teach basics of piano, as well as exercising both the fingers and the coordination between mind and fongers. one such song went CAGAFARA,DBABGBFB, ECBCACGC,etc.

Yeah, it does look like a finger exercise.
The notes walk down the keyboard from (say) C above middle C to middle C, sorta.

Then the next mode B, (still in C major) etc.

Add one more vote for "finger exercise." Unless there's a lot of information that's missing, I'm almost positive that's what it is.

i have no idea what the piece is, but kinda like that the sequence of pitches comes with no indications about direction/intervals (are the b's the same b's or is each an octave or two above or below what precedes it?). nothing about speed either, so that would be another variable. i think that the pianists should record interpretations of the sequence of notes and post them. it'd be interesting maybe. besides, i have never heard others of this curious subgroup play, nor most of you me, so there we are. what do you think?

A piece based on this material (which I bet is from Hanon)? I accept your challenge, sir!!

if i ever studied music, or knew anything in detail about it... and its structure...

i'd probably be able to supply more information that could possibly better help identify the song...

though it seems like a finger exercise (probably is)
it actually sounds quite good when played...
but i havnt heard it in such a long time...

thanks everyone for their input!

i'll try to get sone pieces by Hanon too!

and i also realized i made an error.. with the

it should have been

A Ab Gb Ab A A

Seriously, it's a finger exercise, nothing more. I'm about as positive as I can be about that without actually knowing it as a fact. Sometimes they can be catchy, but they're still just finger exercises And, yeah, it's probably from Hanon (a popular piano technique publication).

Whereas an excerpt of this exercise may also be a tiny piece of a real song somewhere, the part that you describe is a very common finger exercise. I also used to use it as a cool-down exercise at the end of orchestra rehearsals (I played French Horn in college). It improves dexterity and promotes finger independence in the pianist.

It's just an exercise, nothing more.

And do you by any chance know the name of this little exercise? It seems that you play it a lot.

Oh, and btw, I have shared the link properly now. I had to set it to 'Share with the world'. Anyways, have a listen and see for yourself if it is a finger exercise. I rarely do hear Execises that are THIS good.

Well, okay, see, you put it in context (ie. give it a chordal structure and a rhythm) and suddenly it's music.

That very same melody line is TOTALLY used as a finger exercise. It's actually very clever to arrange chords around a finger exercise like that. And no, I don't know who did it.
