My mom cuts my step-dad's hair and occasionally my uncle's and my brother's. I go to a hairdresser, but my mom has given me a perm before.

Depends where I am at at the time;

There is always a good barber close to a base. The barber I went to as a child was an old German immigrant from WWII. He was awesome.

There were Playboy magazines around, and he always had a bottle of liquor under the sink for when his old regular customers came in.

Later in life, when I joined the Army, he gave me a free haircut: "Two times you get your hair cut for free. Wedding, and Basic Training."

Then he gave me the Jarhead look, poured me a shot of whiskey (I was 17) and said "You stay out of trouble. Do what the guy who is screaming at you says. Don't ask questions. You'll be fine."

He was renowned for his flat-top haircuts. They took a long time, but looked incredible. Girls from the hairdressing school used to come to the shop to learn about his flat-tops. He loved it when 20 girls would cram around him and watch him work. Whoever was getting their hair cut would be too intimidated to speak.

He died a couple of years ago, and noone took over his shop. I found a new barber, and he is great, but nothing like the barber I loved.

10 bucks. I tip an extra two. It takes 10 minutes, and there are no women around. It is a place where I am allowed to feel like a man.

I have a few barber stories.

Used to buy a guy I knew at his apartment. But he went to Hong Kong or quit or something. Now it's been by the same shop for as long as I can remember.

It's all about dirt cheap haircuts. Hurray for cheap Chinese labour

Not as if I care about my hair much anyway. Guys have the advantage of just wiping and restarting :D

My mother use to be a liscenced barber so she cuts mine, my fathers, grandfathers, and her brothers hair.

She's damn good at it too.

My mom has never, ever cut my hair. I always went to a salon (well, except for the time when I was 6 and let my best friend cut my hair...)

But yeah, now I only let my sister in law cut and dye my hair. It's what she does for a living.

My mom used to cut my hair as a kid--entirely self-taught. But then she started getting hand tremors and we had more money, so I got to go to the salon. I've never had much luck with salon haircuts, as my hair is kind of tricky--curly at the back, straight towards the front, tremendous volume and LOTS of hair.

Right now I cut my own hair, because I'm poor and it's free. Hopefully soon I'll have enough money to go to the beauty school and get a real haircut--my hair needs to be razored to keep the volume down. I haven't had a real haircut since July, and that cut was awful. Oh, and yes, I am quite good at cutting hair--I cut my mom's hair, my best friend's hair, etc. So other people trust me with their hair ;)

i usually waste money at an overpriced salon. but i'm broke, so i had my friend do it. better than i expected, actually. but i think pretty soon i'm gonna have the beginnings of a mullet.

I've been going to my barber for eight or ten years now. I haven't lived in that town for five years, but I still live nearby, and I have friends in the town, so I make the trip. A barber is important. He asks about my family and friends, tells me how things are with him -- it's a relationship. I couldn't go to a salon; just wouldn't feel right.

Mrs. GH cuts my hair.
This happens about once every other year.

I go to a hairdresser, but I haven't gone since spring. Now it's starting to get kind of long but I am able to manage. I just have a hard time drying it off after showering.

I let my mom cut my hair when I was 10 or 11, once and never again. I also let a good friend of mine cut it a few times, also never again. Usually I go to a hair dresser, but the ones I go to are not very good, they're ok. The best that I've had is this lady who's Korean, she gives me a free shampoo every time I go there, but then she charges 15 dollars plus 2 for tip. Now in the Bay Area, I go to this one lady who is just as good as the Korean lady but is twice as cheap.

I'm really anal about my hair: no clipper, scissors only and a razor blade to shave the edges or for layering/thinning my hair. And damn do I have a lot of hair. The poor ladies who cut my hair usually can finish 2-3 customers with the amount of time they spend on me/my hair.

I'm contemplating on getting those really expensive hair cuts, you know, the 30-40 dollar ones once, and have my regular mimick it. Problem is you get what you pay for and I'm afraid she might not know the technique those pros use and screw up my hair, then I'd have to wear a hat for weaks!
