Suspects named in WPC Murder (with pictures)

I would like to ask that the mods do not join this thread with the other similar thread i have previously made.
It is considerably more likely that UK residents (and anyone else) will click on this new thread, rather than simply checking a new post on an old one.
I'm not sure how badly the rest of the world reacts to police officers being killed, but i'd like to think that over here in the UK, it's still a highly despicable act and the offenders should be hunted down (and sent to the gallows if i had anything to do with it).

Any help with these enquiries is paramount, and if anyone has seen recently or knows the whereabouts of any of the suspects, please call the police immediatly or crimestoppers annonymously on 0800 555 111.

Police name Pc shooting suspects

The three men were all living in London, police said
Detectives hunting the killers of Pc Sharon Beshenivksy have named the three prime suspects they want to question.
The 38-year-old officer was shot dead during an armed raid by a gang at a travel agency in Bradford a week ago.

The suspects are Mustaf Jama, 25, from the north Kensington area of London, and his brother Yusuf, 19, from the same area. Both are of Somali origin.

They also want to trace Muzzaker Shah, 24, who was born in Burnley but has lived in London since 2001.

Det Supt Andy Brennan, who is leading the hunt for the killers, said: "I believe the men who committed this crime are very dangerous." They were already "known to police", he added.

'Still in UK'

He told reporters at a briefing in Bradford there was no indication that any of the three suspects had left the country. "It is possible they may be in the London area," he said.

"I am appealing for any information which can help us to trace these men as a matter of urgency."

Pc Sharon Beshenivsky joined the Bradford South team in May

Mr Brennan also gave more information about the movements of the getaway car believed to have been used by the killers.

He said: "Immediately after the events at the travel agents three men were seen running to a silver vehicle which was parked in Howard Street.

"We believe this vehicle is the silver Toyota Rav 4, registration WP05 YTT, details of which were provided to the media previously.

"We have trawled through many hours of CCTV and have a number of sightings of the vehicle on 18 November [the day of the shooting].

"This includes a sighting of the vehicle travelling along Morley Street at 3.02pm, moments before the events at the travel agents."

He said the vehicle was seen 40 minutes later travelling along Manchester Road, out of Bradford city centre, in the general direction of the motorway network.

He ran from police into the underground wearing a jacket only a few days after some other people had decided it would be a damned good idea to blow other parts of it up. Quite simply, he shouldn't have run from police, ESPECIALLY on the day he did. The response given to a perceived threat was justified as far as i'm concerned, id much rather have one innocent man die than another 20 get blown up. Lesser of two evils.

I would have done exactly the same as the police

What would be even more amusing, and just as karma-like, Would be someone not really giving a shit if you died, sorta like you don't about the cop eh?

maybe you should look at it that way?

He wasn't running from them, he didn't jump the ticket barrier, he wasn't even wearing bulky jacket, He was shot 5 times in the back of the head before they even identified him. Not only that, but they had a perfectly viable option of subduing him but instead decided to shoot him instead. That's just bad police work.
However, It really does suck when a good police officer is killed in the line of duty. I hope they do catch these guys. I have alot of respect for anyone trying to protect and serve the people, especially when they obviously don't do it to get rich. I'll keep my eyes out even though I highly doubt I'll see them in the US.

How exactly would you subdue a person you expect to just ignite explosives strapped to themselves before you could have him on the ground???

He was running from them, he ran from the street, into the underground, he was under survellance anyway.
If someone ran through an airport a week after 9/11 and looked like he might for whatever reason be carring a bomb, do you think they should just knock him over and cuff him, or shoot him? There is NO time to think a situation like that through, a decision has to be made, and the right one was. The bombers were home bred, so trying to identify him while pursuing him through the underground won't work.
Mistakes do happen in policing, but given the circumstances, its understandable.

Cynthetiq - I probably would feel differently if it was a relation but, not to sound harsh, he wasn't, and i still stand beside the police in their call.

Man arrested in Pc shooting case

Yusuf Jama was arrested in Birmingham
Police hunting the killers of Pc Sharon Beshenivsky, who was shot dead during a robbery in Bradford last Friday, have arrested a 19-year-old man.
Yusuf Jama - one of three men named as suspects earlier this week - was arrested in Birmingham, police said.

The other two, Muzzaker Imtiaz Shah, 24, and Mr Jama's 25-year-old brother, Mustaf, are still at large, they say.

Pc Beshenivsky, 38, was killed and her colleague, Pc Teresa Milburn, 37, hurt during the raid at a travel agency.

The pair, both trainees, had gone unarmed to investigate the incident in Morley Street on 18 November.

Pc Beshenivsky was shot in the chest and her colleague shot in the shoulder.

Pc Milburn needed hospital treatment but was discharged two days later.

Police said Mr Jama was arrested in the Saltley area of east Birmingham on Saturday morning as the result of an "incident".

Eyewitnesses reported intense police activity in Bowyer Road at 0930 GMT.

Pc Sharon Beshenivsky was shot dead and her colleague wounded

Officers declined to give further details for "operational reasons".

Mr Jama has been brought to West Yorkshire for questioning.

The arrest comes after police released photographs of the three suspects on Friday and appealed for help to trace them.

Earlier on Saturday they revealed this appeal had resulted in "a number of calls".

Police said Mr Jama would be transported to a West Yorkshire police station for questioning.

They are still appealing for help to trace the remaining two suspects.

All three suspects are thought to be from the north Kensington area of west London.

Six arrests

Pc Beshenivsky leaves a husband, three children and two step-children. Her youngest child, Lydia, was celebrating her fourth birthday on the day her mother was shot.

Five Somali men, and a woman, arrested in London in the aftermath of the shooting were released without charge.

The men were all bailed pending further inquiries. The woman was freed unconditionally.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the police incident room on 01274 373700.

stevie, just checking as I too feel the same way that you do, until of course it's someone that I connect with.

As far as police presence in London, OMG they were everywhere on Saturday night. I don't know if that was normal but most places I went to there were at least 4-6 of them on the tube or overground. One station we saw about 12 of them on one platform.

I think you should look at the updates to the news story. He payed for his subway ticket, grabbed a free newspaper on the way in, The only time he ran was to get on his train, he then stopped calmly, looked for a seat and sit down. It hardly sounds like he was fleeing from anyone. They hadn't even identified him as the suspect they had under survellance because the guy taking the pictures was taking a piss. They made 1 mistake after another, then they didn't try to correct the first reports that he was running from the police, jumped the ticket barrier, was wearing a bulky jacket capable of concealing a bomb. I don't understand your shoot first ask questions later policy. I still cannot bring myself to believe that this was a justified shooting.

I'm sorry for hijacking this thread, I won't discuss it anymore in this topic. I'm sure they'll catch the other suspects soon enough.

This thread hijack is ridiculous. You can feel bad about a couple of cops getting shot AND feel bad about the Brazillian getting shot too.

Hope they catch these clowns and lock 'em up for good, condolences to the family of the dead officer.

There are new alcohol liscening laws in force now, lots of places are open until the early morning, and a thousand or so now have 24 hour alcohol selling liscences.

The police want to crack down on any bad behaviour now to send a message that it won't be tolerated in the future.

Man due in court over Pc's murder

Pc Beshenivsky was shot at a travel agency
A 19-year-old man is due before magistrates charged with the murder of police constable Sharon Beshenivsky, who was shot during a raid in Bradford.
Yusuf Jama, from north Kensington, London, was arrested on Saturday in Birmingham and taken to West Yorkshire for questioning.

Mr Jama will also face robbery and firearms charges when he appears before magistrates in Leeds.

Pc Beshenivsky was shot during a raid at a travel agency on 18 November.

Her colleague Pc Teresa Milburn was injured.

Two other men - Muzzaker Imtiaz Shah, 24, and Mr Jama's brother Mustaf, 25 - are still wanted in connection with her death.

Muzzaker Imtiaz Shah and Mustaf Jama are still wanted

Pc Beshenivsky and Pc Milburn were shot after an attack alarm had been set off and they were sent to investigate at the Bradford travel agency.

Crimestoppers has offered a £50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the killers of Pc Beshenivsky.

Det Supt Andy Brennan said: "We are continuing to receive a lot of support from the general public.

"If you ring Crimestoppers, you do not have to leave your name and your call will be completely anonymous.

"If your information leads to the conviction of the people responsible for this crime, then you could claim this reward."

Yusuf Jama was arrested after police were called to a house in the Saltley area of Birmingham.

Muzzaker Shah was born in Burnley but is believed to have lived in the London area for the last four years.

Mustaf Jama is last known to have been living in north Kensington.

The latest reports I heard were that they had tackled him, had him down on the ground, and decided to shoot anyway. He never ran from them, just to get to his train.

Police searching for the killers of Pc Sharon Beshenivsky in Bradford last month have arrested one of the men they had previously named as suspects.
West Yorkshire Police said Muzzaker Imtiaz Shah, 24, was one of two men held after an armed operation in Newport, south Wales, on Monday.

They said the search for another named suspect, Mustaf Jama, 25, continues.

Gwent Police said the two arrested men, aged 23 and 24, would be taken to West Yorkshire for questioning.

Det Supt Andy Brennan of West Yorkshire Police said: "Officers are still keen to trace 25-year-old Mustaf Jama and urge him to contact the police as a matter of urgency."

His brother, Yusuf Jama, 19, has already appeared in court charged with Pc Beshenivsky's murder.

Armed police arrested two people in Newport at the scene of an earlier 14-hour siege, which began on Sunday and ended early on Monday.

Police sealed off the scene of Monday's arrests

Officers had surrounded a house in Cromwell Road on Sunday saying they wanted to speak to a man over a firearms offence.

The siege ended at 0100 GMT on Monday, but Gwent Police officers stayed in the area and two people were arrested at about 1245 GMT.

The road, which had been sealed off, was reopened just after 1530 GMT.

Homes evacuated

Pc Beshenivsky was shot dead while investigating a robbery in Bradford on 18 November. Her colleague, Pc Teresa Milburn, 37, was also shot and injured.

Homes in Newport's Cromwell Road had been evacuated on Sunday as police tried to make contact with the man they said they had wanted to question.

Other people living nearby were told to stay indoors and away from windows.

Monday's arrests came as people were returning to their homes.

St Patrick's primary school was in the middle of the cordon set up on Monday and parents were waiting at either end to pick up their children.

At a later press conference, Detective Superintendent Kevin Price said it had been "a fast-changing situation" but he emphasised that the safety of the public and police officers had been taken into account throughout the operation.

Reward

He added that there was "no indication" the third man still wanted by West Yorkshire Police over Pc Beshenivsky's killing was in the area.

Paula Drummond said her nine-year-old daughter, Dominique, was among the children in the school when the arrests were made.

She had earlier said: "I'm worried sick. When I brought my daughter down to school at 10.30am, the road was all clear. Three hours later I heard it had all kicked off again but I can't get in any closer."

Gwent Police have declined to say exactly what had led to the weekend's siege but have thanked residents for their co-operation throughout.

Meanwhile, Det Supt Brennan reminded the public that there was a £90,000 reward available for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for Pc Beshenivsky's death.
