I'm addicted to the Butterstick! (I refuse to call him by his lame-o Chinese name. He'll always be Butterstick to me!) I have torn myself away from the live panda cam long enough to post its link here for those of you who are not yet privy to the wiggly furry joy:

I too would take penguins over pandas any day of the week...however, polar bears put all of them to shame.

When he was born, zoo officials and the media kept saying he was about the size of a stick of butter. He didn't have an official name yet, so someone started calling him "Butterstick" and it, um, stuck! The official name they've given him is Tai Xian or something, but's he'll always be Butterstick to me. Even though he's more the size of a butter churn now than a stick of butter.

When he was first born, long before they announced a name, all the news reports quoted one of his zoologists saying, "He's roughly the size of a stick of butter."

Everybody started referring to him as "Butterstick". When the naming contest opened, people were shocked that Butterstick wasn't an option. They ended up with "Tai Shan", which seems like a total sellout to me.

Speaking of sellouts, tickets to see him on the first few weeks he'll be open for public viewing are totally sold out and are way hot commodities in DC right now. Everybody loves them some 'Stick! <a href="http://www.wonkette.com/politics/butterstick/what-would-you-do-for-the-stick-138672.php">Some people are willing to do almost anything to see him.</a>.

Good thing you two have the whole polyamourous thing going on... otherwise it could get messy.

With that much hair... it's going to get messy anyway!

Oh man, I fell in love with this lil' guy when I first saw him, too... I downloaded as many pictures as I could find of him. My favorite was one of him getting weighed, in a plastic tupperware box thingy.. SOOOO CUUUUTE!!

I would love to see him in person, though really I think his ideal time of cuteness was a month or two back.. and of course, the zoo people won't let us HOLD him and SQUEEZE him, which is what I really want to do. :D

Holy crap! The bill for all that bandwidth must be freaking huge! I'm at a constant 80 Kbps, and I'm sure there are hundreds of people on at all times (maybe more), so we're looking at several GB per second at least! (in all likelihood, much more) That is nuts!

Oh... and I guess the Panda's pretty cute, too.
