Well I think that this is a bit over the top but then again there's lots of burgers here with lots of weirdo things in it pushing it over $10 into the totally ridiculous range...

okay but I'll try to finish the martini by myself...

maleficent 10-21-2005 08:43 AM

40 ounce martini? OK... when we goin' Cyn?

I am totally a burger gal... but that's too much burger... and I doubt they'd server to me rare... but the martini... mmmm? 4 straws though? Who dey kiddin?

florida0214 10-21-2005 09:07 AM

Wow I never thoguht I would say this but that is too much to eat. I might be abelt o get one of those burgers down me but I would puke later on. The idea is awesome, especially for groups. Do they have especially large balls on the pool tables and you can hit them with baseball bats instead of pool sticks? that would be cool.

JStrider 10-21-2005 09:14 AM

reminds me of the 72 oz free steak in amarillo... only free if you eat it all in a certain amount of time... www.bigtexan.com

StanT 10-21-2005 10:03 AM

Dang, I split regular sized meals with my wife because they are too large.

I wonder if they'd consider margaritas. While we don't eat much, we can easily put away a pitcher of margaritas.

splck 10-21-2005 10:13 AM

just give me a decent meal without the gimmick...thanks

oversized food = oversized people

Reminds of family-style Italian restaurants, or a lot of Greek restaurants I've been to. I don't really see a problem with it....sort of like ordering pizza for a large group.

edit: the martini sounds like too much backwash at the end. icky.

I don't think I could eat that much 4.5 pounds, that's a huge steak, I think I can down about 2 pounds of food, but, 72 ounces I don't know, kind of makes me want to try it, too bad I don't live near there. I wouldn't mind going to a restaurant like that once in a while, but I don't think I’d go there regularly. Eating that much usually only happens as a challenge.

I'm going to have to agree with my non-vowel friend here. When did it become okay to sacrifice service with gimmick?

I am not saying that the service at this particular establishment is bad (how would I know, one way or another?) but that instead of genuinely improving the experience, they walked down the "Gimmick" road. I give this place a year before they:
1. go in another direction
2. go out of business
3. become so famous that they turn into a cultural landmark, and everyone stands outside the restaurant for hours waiting to get in.

What is that Deli in New York with the fucking huge sandwiches that is on TV all the time? That is the way to work the gimmick angle.

serlindsipity 10-21-2005 12:12 PM

Looking at all of the food would make me ill.

However, the martini sounds fun. And the marg idea is even better.

Carnegie, Stage, katzs, Second avenue.... take your pick.. they all make a reuben that could serve a family of 4 four a week.. but ohhhhh they are sooooo good...

BigBen 10-21-2005 12:17 PM

Carnegie, that's the one.

When some guy living at 53 and 102 (latitude and longitude) knows the name of your deli, you are working the gimmick angle well.

we have lots of delis but maybe you are thinking of Carnigie Deli or Stage, both make huge 2.5 lb sandwhiches. Of course there's still Katz in the Lower Eastside made famouse by Meg Ryan's orgasmic meal.

In a city with thousands of restaurants where you can eat at a different restaurant every day for your whole life and never eat at the same two, gimmick sometimes is enough to get people to come inside... there's a hotel that just offered the $10,000 martini a few months back, martini comes with a diamond engagement ring. Do lots of people get engaged there? Not really, but they did get press, and I did hear of one buyer. Buyer meets first beforehand to pickstones etc.

You also have to finish the baked potato, among other things.

I remember the local newspaper showing some statistics on how often people finish. Women had a WAY higher percentage of finishing, but that makes sense since women don't tend to try to impress people with how much they can eat.

On a side note, I can put away 2 pounds of steak no problem. And i'm a tiny asian guy

the food network had some special on a few months ago -- and they featured a pizza place somewhere that servied something like a 15 pound pizza( deep dish) and the challenge was to finish it in an hour.. .two guys tried and failed miserably - but did get a feww pitcher of beer for their trouble..

MooseMan3000 10-21-2005 03:03 PM

Pfft. I could do the steak sandwich and a milkshake in 20 minutes. And I'm not even very big. (5'11", 200 lbs).

And man... that burger makes me hungry. I can never get enough of the fantastic gluttony that is America. We rule. :p

Manuel Hong 10-22-2005 08:54 AM

Has Giant Hamburger seen this?!

Marvelous Marv 10-22-2005 10:01 AM

:p What a disappointment. I read the title and thought I was in Tilted Sexuality.

Gabbyness 10-22-2005 11:08 AM

This place sounds kick-ass!

I'm bout it.
