spiders.... eeeek
|
*bump*
I have a phobia of dogs. It is really a pain in the ass and makes life very difficult. I'm constantly on alert whenever we go to the park or in the canyon to go hiking because no one obeys leash laws and their dogs run wild all the time. Whenever I go to someone's house for the first time, I always have to ask if they have dogs. And then explain WHY I want to know if they have dogs and if they do, can they please lock them up somewhere. I've never been bitten by a dog in my life, so I don't know where the phobia came from. I have gotten some control over it, so that if I'm faced with a situation with a strange dog I don't have a panic attack, though. I also have a fear of heights (I don't like flying but I can, and I can ride rollercoasters if I make sure I don't look down. The ferris wheel...forget it). I used to have major arachnaphobia too, but if the spider is small, I can deal with it. Large spiders, and large centipedes too, scare the hell out of me. Hubby thinks its funny when I scream and squeal when I see large spiders. |
Fear of ledges more adequately describes what I thought was a fear of heights. If I am safely contained as in an airplane, I have no fear response. Even seeing someone else near a ledge scares me to into stomach lurches.
Fear of needles is one that I've been working to overcome. I'm ok with one poke with a lot of self-talk. "Oops, I missed, let's try this again" will turn me chalk white and tumbling to the floor. |
I have a penis phobia...well...more or less a sperm phobia. NO BABIES!
I also have a phobia of pain, I hate it when anything hurts and I'm afraid to do things that might cause an injury. Annddd the classic bug/spider/bee/reptile phobia. Ugggghhhh. |
Public places
Absolute Dark And though this one is weird.... midgets. |

I have a fear of being out of touch with the ones I love. When we had that blackout in the summer of 2003 (I think..I am so bad with dates), I had a panic attack trying to get home to my family and not being able to call them.
I am also afraid of escalators. I do use them, but I have a hard time getting on them, especially when people are behind me. |
Waves that can knock me over
Falling headfirst Things that come charging at me with no room to get away |
My picture thread notwithstanding, having my picture taken.
Social interaction. |

I also have a phobia? extreme disliking for anything touching or hitting my head. Can't handle a pillowfight or friendly taps to the head. |
I *hate* the dark. Martel and I went up to Mt. Pisgah last night about midnight, and were up on an overlook on the parkway and I was trying not to freak out- I would'nt go more than a foot away from the car!
I also HATE baloons- not the helium kind but the other kind. Wave one in my face and I go ballistic. |

At least I don't drive as bad as Adam... My phobia...I fuckin hate swimming in the ocean or lake. There's always something in those things that I don't want swimming up to me... |
Spiders and Mice.
There is a good story why, and I thank you for reminding me. Time to write it down and post again! |

I was finally stung when I was about 12. I think I went into shock. I must have stared at that little stinger sticking out of my leg for a good 5 minutes watching it pulse as it pumped venom into me. I thought I was going to die. I remember going to the nurse's office (I was at camp) and waiting there for her to come back. All the while with the stinger stuck in my leg. I finally realized that I wasn't going to die (and the nurse STILL wasn't back!), so I took matters into my own hands and just yanked it out. I couldn't get over how it wasn't painfull... just felt like a little slap. Here I had been expecting excruciating agony! What a let down! :) Since then, I've been stung dozens more times. It's just a minor incomvenience and itches like crazy after. But I still have those few instinctual seconds where I still spaz out before I realize I'm not afraid of them anymore. |
Like Indiana Jones said many movies ago, "Snakes.....it HAD to be snakes."
Me, too. Even if they show up on TV, I get gee-gee. |

Fear of Needles (Aichmophobia): I've gotten a lot better at this one... I used to almost pass out and now I can sit there and barely feel it.
Fear of Heights (Acrophobia): Anything over 10 feet and I need a safety rope. I'm not sure I'd classify it as a phobia, as I can do it, I just look like an idiot with all the "safety precautions" I take. Strangely enough, I'm always the one in the family that ends up on the roof when something needs to be done up there. Go figure. Claustrophobia: I got stuck head first in a culvert once when I was young. I was hysterical. Being buried alive really freaks me out too. |
I'm agoraphobic. I dont like wide open spaces, I dont feel safe in them and I get very nervous and panicky. Lately that's been subdued somehow, so that's good. I am also a bit arachnaphobic.
