About to ask the big question and need help...

Ok, so heres the deal...

My girlfriend and I have been talking for a few weeks now about jumping the broom. (If you don't know what that is, look it up! We actually want to do the entire broom ceremony.) She has a family heirloom ring that she has will be using as an engagement ring so I'm set there. But she is a graphic designer and does a lot of scrapbooky style stuff, and she has mentioned in passing that when I ask her, it needs to be something sweet and romantic that she can put into a scrapbook.

Therein lies my problem. I'm not a girl so I could use some help here. What would be sweet and romantic? I want to do it on the 31st of this month, so it needs to be something that I can put together quickly. I was thinking of the whole checkered blanket and a picnic basket in the park thing, but thats really not me. Can some of you girls throw out ideas for me here? I know all of you have a sweet side, even Mal! :D

Simple thing, I wouldn't do it on the 31st, do it on the first, that way you can always celebrate it!

And you know your girl better than us, if you think a private dinner at home, candles, and everything done up by you is the best, then do that. All ladies are different, you should know that!

October 31st is a meaningful holiday for both of us. Thats why that day was picked. :thumbsup:

Sweet and romantic? I'm kind of literal-minded. How about getting her some kind of luscious, custom-wrapped chocolate truffle -- wrapped in gold foil or whatever. And when she unwraps it, your proposal is written inside the wrapper (or on a piece of paper), in nice handwriting or calligraphy.

Alternatively, you could take out a classified ad in the newspaper for that day that contains your proposal, and make sure she reads it. For fun, you could put it in, like, the "for sale" or "yard sale" section with a fake ad like. "Big yard sale: clothes, shoes, 27-year-old lovestruck man. SUSAN WILL YOU MARRY ME?" Something like that. You could even bury the proposal in "help wanted." Anyway, she could rip the ad out of the paper; it'd make a nice graphic. You could make the ad long and romantic, too.

Basically, anything sweet, sentimental, and goofy is romantic, as long as the sentiment is true. Keep that in mind, and you can't go wrong.

I married Harpie on the 30th....only because we didnt want to interupt Halloween or Samhain celebtations. If you are in good with her parents, ask her Father to help with the proposal. He could call her into a room you and he are in....and as you hold her hand, Loop a ribbon over your joined hands and say a few words. After which you ask her, Kind of a handfasting without the waiting period.....heh.
