Disgust Rating and Tattoos

I've been thinking of getting a tattoo and I have a thing for spiders and scorpions (like from a biology/ecology perspective) but I'm a very practical person, so I havn't gotten one yet because of job possibilities. Now that I'm more focused on what I want to do, tattoos have become a real possibility.

However, the practical side cautions me, since I'm still young (20) I've probably got a good deal more dating ahead of me and I know how many women (men too of course but I'm not interested in dating them) find bugs disgusting. So my question, and the reason for this poll is, are they still just as disgusting if theyre a tattoo? Have you ever been turned off by a disgusting tattoo? And what are your general opinions on this idea of bug tats?

Thanks.

I believe that tatoos should be a very personal thing, something that means something to you, so if you want one, you get it. If someone is turned off by it than chances are they aren't the person for you anyway. Yes, I've seen tatoos I don't like, and I've seen some that really turn me on. Everyone is always going to react differently, so the only person you can worry about is yourself. If it makes you happy, nothing should stop you. :)

Yes, but I'm too much of a thinker/theorizer/worrier to heed such wisdom. :)

I'm going to go with the "do what makes YOU happy, and not worry about others" theory. I'm sure there are girls out there that won't like my tattoos, while there are some girls I know who actually like my tattoos.

In short, even if you don't get the tattoo, someone who is grossed out by spiders/scorpions has a good chance of not being compatable with you since you like them.

Besides. It's still got the same feel as skin. Paint yourself whatever skin colour you are when you 2 go out?

I've never thought of bugs tatoos being gross before, or tatoos in general. I've always thought of them being either ugly or nice. I think scorpion tatoos are bad ass, though, whereas spider tatoos are kind of wimpy looking.

I personally would never get it 'cause it doesn't/wouldn't look so nice when I'm old and my skin wrinkles. In the words of Robin Williams, "You get a barb wire tatoo when you're 18, and when you're 80 it turns to a fucking picket fence."

Yeah I was leaning toward scorpion anyway because it has more symbolism for me, but who cares what your tats look like when youre 80 when you already look like youre 80? :)

That's an excellent point, you're probably too senile to even care any way. But still, wouldn't. To each his own.

Tattoos are personal as others have already said. However, you asked for an opinion so I'll give you mine...
One thing that I don't like about tattoos is that some of them are canned and impersonal. With these types of tattoos, I think that it looks like the person just walked in the tattoo parlor and pointed at one. My 2 tattoos were designed by me. The first one I designed and the second one I found one that I liked and changed it to what I liked. If you like scorpions, then that will be something personal to you.

I personally don't like bugs, but I wouldn't shun a good looking guy for having a tattoo of one. However, it sounds like you are more concerned with getting the actual tattooo than it being a bug. Think it over and make sure that you are positive you want one since they are permanent.

Someone in the pictures/exhibition forum posted a picture of their spider tattoo they have on their back (if I was more motivated i'd go and look and remember who) it's a really cool looking tatoo and there's nothing gross about it.

I think I'd rather see a bug as a tattoo than a naked woman on a bicep... the only tattoos that are -- not so much disgusting or gross -- but rather annoying are the ones that people get because they think it's the 'cool' thing to do. you should be getting the tat for yourself and only yourself, not for what other people think.

I don't find bugs disgusting most of the time in reality. Some cartoonish bugs can look disgusting but I think it would be quite simple to find one that isn't disgusting. Go for it.

I don't think getting a tattoo of a bug is disgusting or gross. Just make sure you actually WANT to get a tattoo. I've wanted to get some ink for a very long time, but I haven't been able to find or think of anything that I want stuck to me for the rest of my life. Also, go with something original. As shesus said, the tattoos that look like you just walked into the parlor and picked one do not seem to me to be as meaningful as one I or a close friend had designed myself.
