IRC-WHERE IS EVERYBODY!?!?!?!?!?!?

Granted it was 2:30 in the afternoon, (14:30 for those of you that need the conversion), but seriously, not one person logged in to IRC was even aware that there was anyone else there. What gives? Where did everybody go? Where are all the slackers, goldbrickers, milkmen, etc? I go in for a little chit chat and sit there idly watching tumbleweeds roll by.

I will admit that I've been extremely scarce on the board and IRC over the last few months, but dost thou needest forsake me so??

I wish I could have joined you in chat today. Someone decided we were not allowed to access this sort of chat during working hours. How dare they!

Glory's Sun 09-20-2005 11:12 AM

it's just been slow in there lately.. maybe people decided to work..

pansies

I would be in there, but university has blocked access to IRCs. So I'm S.O.L. while I'm at school.

SaltPork 09-20-2005 11:20 AM

Working?? I'm working! Oh wait...I'm "working"....maybe others should also "work".

Cynthetiq 09-20-2005 11:47 AM

i can't reach it from work so i have to VNC to my home computer. i don't monitor it as much as I had in the past, but when i'm not busy i do jump on.

Meditrina 09-20-2005 11:52 AM

VNC your home computer? What does this mean? and can I do that from my office?

virtual network computing...
think remote control computer to home. i use tightvnc from tightvnc.com

most IT people are lazy so the 5800 ports are not blocked since they use it too to connect from home etc. ;)

you set up the service side at home and then you can either use a client or just use the java enabled one to use it from a web browser which ever is easiest... the other day i didn't have a phone number so I use VNC on my Palm and connected to home to get the number from an IM window that I chatted with earlier in the day via VNC from the hotel here in Manila... and my PC is in NYC ;)

Thank you both for the information. I will have to look into this, as I am going through withdrawal symptoms not being able to chat from work.

There are often lags in the conversation on irc. The evening is the busiest time. As for me, I can't chat at work because I have 16 first graders to take care of all day. I did have a break today though, completing tests and syncing test scores so I popped in for a couple of minutes. It wasn't too busy then either. Patience is a virtue and sometimes is needed in irc. :)

Where? Everywhere I've checked is sold out or the ones they have left are the wrong size.

seems harsh, uncle phil. I was simply looking for a distraction after having a morning and early afternoon full of meetings...I'm not sure why you chose to respond this way, but I understand that it could be the metamucil :)

Anywho...hopefully I'll be around a bit more to chat with everyone and be more productive on the board.

Siege 09-20-2005 07:11 PM

It doesn't work for me. At least not when I just click on the pop up version.

Krycheck 09-20-2005 09:28 PM

Don't be sorry, SaltPork, we're just giving you a hard time. Keep coming into chat and become Dangerous like the rest of us. We'll make you feel welcome. Promise. :)

Janey 09-22-2005 08:23 AM

hey don't be sorry Salty, I liked your post. Unfortunately, I cannot use the chat at work either, as it need to install something for which I have no admin rights.

oberon 09-26-2005 07:53 PM

I don't use IRC from work, although I could. This is mostly so I can keep focused on my job. :)
