Throwing a party...

Ok, so it's my 21st birthday tomorrow and I'm throwing a party at my apartment tonight. Also keep in mind that I am a college student. I have stocked the fridge with booze, and I hope to get about 15 people or so. However, I haven't really ever thrown a party before. I've been to many college apartment parties and it kind of consists of drinking, playing beer pong, and chatting, which is perfectly fine. I certainly enjoy drinking, but do any of you have good ideas of how to mix things up a bit? I have Team America on DVD. I think that will be funny.

Two words:

seriously, go with a theme, and then relax. Toga parties always work for me.

Games! Get a deck of cards and play some good drinking games.

One game you can play without cards that's fun with a big group of people: Memory. Sit in a circle and go around the circle counting to 15. Whoever "lands" on 15 replaces a number with a word. The object is to replace all the numbers with words, and to keep going around the circle repeating the correct sequence of words/numbers. If a word/number is missed, the person who missed it drinks. If the entire sequence is finished without mistakes, everyone takes a drink. You play until all the words are replaced and you can make it through the whole sequence without a mistake.

The most important thing is to have fun yourself :) Don't stress out too much.

You could play landmines. If you want to get people drunk really fast this is the game for you. Sit in circle at table. Everyone has their own drink. Place small or large amount of beer in glass. You then spin quarter and must pick up glass and drink all beer and pick quarter back up with same hand before it is done spinning. This continues around the table. Once you have an empty beer, you can put it on top of someone's spinning quarter and they have to repeat the process over. If quarter is not picked up with same hand the process must also be repeated.

Or, drinking Jenga. You can buy the Jenga game in the store with dares written on it or else just write your own. I have tons of great pictures from this game in my scrapbook.

as much as i love movies, putting a movie on at a party is a death sentence.

just make sure there are people and booze, and things will generally even out.

Depending on the crowd, you could play Twister, or crank some tunes, or any number of drinking games. :D

Charades is always a crowd pleaser.

If you just let people drink, play a little music, I think it will work out for you. I agree that movies arent really a good thing. Some people will watch it, some won't, if it is loud they won't be able to hear, ect. Lots of ifs and maybes. Just drink and let the good times roll.

I agree with making a theme... always a good idea. Movies aren’t necessarily that fun at parties unless it’s like four people sitting around drinking….

Also, my friends and I play drinking games a lot. Sooo... a couple:

King's Cup (pretty popular but I'll explain anyway): You'll need a deck or two of cards (depending on how many people show up I guess). Everyone has a drink, and it’s best if at least MOST people have the same type of drink (beer is usually the best). You place one empty cup/bowl in the middle of the table and spread out the deck of cards in a circle around the empty cup/bowl. Each person takes a turn picking a card from the circle. Each card means something different… (Notice most have a rhyming theme going on… makes it easier to remember)
Ace: Avalanche. Everyone at the table starts drinking at the same time, and the person who drew and Ace starts the avalanche. EVERYONE continues drinking until the person next to them has stopped. So let’s say the order of people around the table goes: Tom, Jane, Sally. They all start drinking, Tom drinks until he feels like stopping, Jane then can either stop or continue drinking until she’s decided she’s done, When Jane stops, Sally may stop or continue drinking. Basically the last person in the circle gets screwed.
Two: You. The person who draws this card must choose someone else at the table to take a drink.
Three: Me (Person who picks a three has to take a drink)
Four: Whores (ugh). This means all the girls playing the game have to take a drink.
Five: Jive. The person who picks this car must begin with doing some sort of “action.” The person to the left then does the first person’s “action,” and then makes up another one. This means the third person does the other two “actions” and makes up another. For example- first person: claps twice; second person: claps twice, slaps knees once; third person: claps twice, slaps knees once, and says “hey!”… Etc…. The first person to forget any of these “actions” in their proper order has to take a drink.
Six: Dicks (ugh… again). All the boys at the table must take a drink
Seven: Heaven. Once this card is drawn, everyone must raise their hands in the air (reaching to heaven). The last person to put their hands up has to take a drink.
Eight: Mate. The person who draws an eight picks another person at the table to take a drink WITH.
Nine: Rhyme. The person to draw this card starts out by saying a word such as “ball.” The next person must say something that rhymes with “ball” such as “hall.” First person who can’t think of a word that rhymes, or takes too long thinking about it, has to take a drink.
Ten: Friends. This means everyone at the table takes a drink.
Jack: Make up a Rule. The person who draws this card must make up a rule that MUST continue until that person takes another turn. This can be anything: no profanity allowed, you can’t use your hands when you take a drink, etc. Anyone who violates the rule while it is in play has to take a drink.
Queen: Questions. The person to draw a Queen must start a conversation with someone at the table, using ONLY questions to talk to that person. This conversation in questions continues until someone doesn’t answer in question form. Example: First person: “How was your weekend?” Second person: “Did you ever get your homework done this weekend?” Another rule: You can’t just ask random questions. They must SOMEHOW relate to one another. First person to break this rule has to drink. Also, another card is NOT drawn until someone loses at “Questions.”
King: Once someone draws a king, that person must pour as much of his/her drink into the empty cup/bowl in the middle of the table. The person who draws the FOURTH king in the deck (or eighth… if you use two decks) has to drink all of the alcohol in the cup/bowl in the middle.

If the group of friends you’ve invited are ones you’re pretty close to, then playing something like “Never Have I Ever” is also a fun game (helps you to get to know your friends better too),

First rule of “Never Have I Ever”: Whatever is said between those people stays between those people… usually this isn’t a big deal unless someone is sensitive to what they have to admit.

Second rule: EVERYONE MUST BE HONEST. Otherwise, the game sucks.

Uhh… WARNING: this game turns into usually just about sex… but it doesn’t have to be.

So, this one is easier. Someone starts the game by saying, “Never Have I Ever…” and continues with saying something they have NEVER done or said or whatever it is. Example: “Never Have I Ever been camping” (that one is lame). Then, anyone and everyone playing who HAS been camping must take a drink. You can get as specific as you want with these as well. Basically… you just get to know what your friends have and haven’t done.

That was long… Hope I helped… cause that took a while. Heh..

Hope your party is fuuuuun!!!!
