While I am not yet the Zen masters that Chingal0 and Charlatan are, I am almost Daniel_. For the reasons stated numerous times above, I think this is a dumb test. It said I might be showing signs of IMS. I have only one thing to say to that...

I would honestly think that most men that take that test will come back with a score that indicates the need for help... After all, life would have to be going just fucking peachy for any man here not to answer sometimes or "worse" to the majority of those questions. There are a lot of things that can cause those feelings, as pointed out... Stress!!!

I got a 57 -- in the "likely" zone. I hate to admit it, but I think there is something to this as I find myself more irritable on some days than others, but I can't quite figure out what is causing it. I'd be interested in finding out more.

Thanks for the post.

You know, pop psychology just pisses me off.

IMS, my ass. Loudmouth dog, hyperactive children, wife with a penchant for repeating herself over and over and over and over and over and over, and a job I don't particularly like. This is not a disease; it's a woefully unpleasant life, but not a disease.

Yeah. And it's an effing TLA. Like all good science.

Actually I had a quick look at the website. No questions about how good you are feeling. No questions about life events (stress) or exclusion of other factors (depression say?). Of course many people who are getting older are likely to feel some angst re life expectations vs reality, goals vs achievements etc.

Well damn, I got a 106. I know I'm angry, I know I drink too much, and I'm very aware that I'm sarcastic, tired, coffee-loving, and am quick to react to situations I get myself into.

But that's just it, I get myself into it, and I am a man afterall. I mean, do you expect me to "talk" about my feelings ? Fuck that. Pop culture or not, anyone claiming to be a victicm of this "disorder" is not right in the head.

Since this thread got bumped, I decided to take it again and see if I'd gotten more signs of "IMS" since the last time I posted;

Your score is: 16
0-25.None or few signs of IMS.

Apparently not -- I should join the ranks of Buddhist monks or something. Maybe I'm just too happy with my life?

And yet, I still stick behind my vehement dismissal of this pop culture non-science lame-brained fuckwitted survey, as my first post clarifies:

I really think that question was the best in the article. The answer sucked, because that question is [valid]. Labelling this is a "disorder" just adds it to the laundry list of pyschological "disorders" that one can use to defend or rationalize asshole behavior. Hormones go up and down, but we're not rams. We have control over how we react in any given situation, and if you know anything about people you know they are NOT predictable. A man could have 0% testosterone and be a pacifist, or he could be the angriest summabitch you ever met. What's important to me, however.. is not his chemical levels.. but how he reacts -- that determines what kind of MAN he truly is.

And really, this test doesn't say much. "When stressed, men tend to be more irritable." HOLY SHIT BATMAN! ...

26-49. Suggests some indications of IMS. You may want to take the quiz again to see if things improve or get worse.

I am by far the most laid back person I know. In my opinion this test is heavily biased, especially with the diagnosis of "results". If irritable male syndrome is anything, it is a lesser form of sociopathy, of which males are predominate.

I believe there are a lot of valid disorders that have been identified, but that this is not one of them. When you are stressed out, figuring out what you're going to do with your life, taking on responsibilities, coming of age, dealing with financial burdens, etc. you will shows signs of that stress.
16-26 is a very stressful time and i'm not suprised that some people are grumpy because of it. If "IMS" were a true syndrome it would be fairly consistent throughout a person's lifetime, but the way they are presenting it is that it just appears during these stressful times. It has a poor foundation and nonexistant symptoms- they are looking the disorder "by degrees", but the results that prove IMS are well within normal range of variation in individuals. This is a crackpot theory and should be junked.

I also find it offensive that "drinking caffeine" and "drugs or alcohol" are considered something that would ADD to IMS.. ethanol, caffeine, and nicotine always improve my mood.

Oh, so now I have a syndrome instead of just being unhappy with pretty much everything in my life. I don't know whether to get help or to roll up a copy of the test and whack the writer in an easily irritable male region.

I don't usually feel too irritable.......I'm at the low end of that range, but I need help? LMAO......I think I'll be ok.
I think you are irritable!

My husband definately has it, though I will make him take the test..lol. He breaks out and gets moody about a week before I get do(period)..lol...It's quite cute, I call it his "sympathy period"

they make it seem like being irritible is a bad thing... Why do people have to be all sunshine and roses all the time... Sometimes it's good to be just an ornery ole cuss...

No surprise there. I don't get PMS but I just have those personality traits... at least, I have had them increasingly for the last couple of years.

And I am getting help, thank you. Have been for the last couple of years... hey, wait a second...
