Olympic Park Bomber Nabbed
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — It could be one of the most significant 'gets' in FBI history: the arrest of one of the nation's most deadly home-grown terrorists. Fugitive Eric Rudolph, the man charged for the 1996 Olympic Park bombing has been arrested in connection with the bombings of a gay nightclub and abortion clinic, said the FBI. Deputies found a man at around 4:30 a.m. Saturday sifting through a trash bin in the remote town of Murphy in the western North Carolina mountains, said Special Agent John Iannarelli in Washington. He added that the man appeared to be homeless, however deputies believed it was Rudolph. The FBI confirmed Rudolph's identity through a fingerprint match, an official said, speaking on condition of anonymity. "They got him," added the official. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,88259,00.html Looks like one of the longest manhunts in recent history has finally ended - I'm not familiar with the area in which he was captured but he obviously had to have received help from the locals to have hidden out this long. Your turn.

I saw the area highlighted in a map. It is extreme western NC, in the mountains. I am not sure how rurla the area is.
He would seem to have gotten help. I wouldn't be surprised if we read indictments are handed down for harboring. I will be interested to read more as the facts come out. I recently posted on this board a thread about being on the lam. Wonder how this schmuck made it as long as he did, and how his journey ended up in the mountains of NC. |

Way to go, to the 21 year old rookie cop who caught him!
Now comes the years and years of trials.

Wasn't there a special on HBO about militant anti-abortion groups and they mentioned this guy? I seem to remember he bombed a clinic in his hometown. From what I can remember of the show, it wouldn't surprise me to hear these guys were helping this guy evade authorities.

It took me a second. I stared at that picture and I saw Ben Stillers face. I just read this headline on yahoo earlier and all I could think of was " Hey and it only took them 7 years, alright"
