possibly lame tattoo question
I want to get a tattoo... but I have a question.
Im a pretty big guy (about 280 lbs) and I will hopefully be losing some weight at some point... will weight loss badly mishape a tattoo? Im not planning on getting anything huge, or tattoo'ing my belly or anything, I just want three characters, maybe an inch high, on my upper arm. If I change shape a little (and Im thinking how much weight am I gonna lose from my arms anyway) will it make a biu difference?

Ha, its not a lame question, I can relate to this, I was around 280 at one time and I have 14 tatoos. There are all on my arms and calves. I lost about a 100 pounds and they look the same. My friend sue has 17 tatoos (everywhere) I helped her loose 80 pounds and she never said anything about it and her ink looks the same. I think if you get any on your stomach it might look weird if you loose the weight, but mine look the same. I was worried about the same thing. Also got to the the gym while your loosing the weight to tighten up a bit just to make sure.

Yup, I have six and lost 80 lbs. No changes in most of my tats. The one on my lower back is shifted a little bit, but I entirely reshaped my back at the gym.
You're right for thinking about where to get them. Aim for where skin doesn't stretch or shift much. This chick in my home town had this amazing solar system tattooed across her entire belly. She got pregnant. Needless to say, Mars and Pluto are now next door to each other and the sun is covered by the moon. She carries around her own eclipse and it cracks me up every time I see her.

on your arm it shouldnt change shape too much
but you should really talk to your tattoo artist about your concerns, they should be more then happy to answer any questions you have. perhaps you could use it to reward yourself once you have reached one of your weight loss goals? - just an idea

The upper arm should be fine. The skin there is quite elastic, and major weight loss probably won't change it too much. Definitely talk to your tattoo artist, though. He'll be able to look at your arm and give you a good estimate of how weight loss will change it.

why do you feel the need for a tattoo?

I know a girl who had a tattoo of the ying-yang sign on her upper arm. It was perfectly round, but she put on a lot of weight and it warped. Now she's lost all the weight, but her tattoo is still twisted and not round anymore. I would wait until you've lost the weight and then get the tattoo
