Paid surveys at home? Scam?

Is this for real? I've heard of this before... but suddenly one of my friends seems really interested in it and he asked me if I'd like to join him in this seemily bad idea of signing up for this thing. Obviously, I am skeptical, but on the other hand, I usually just say no to stupid ideas and I end up never learning anything. Membership is $40 bucks... what's the worst that can happen? So I make a $40-dollar mistake. Big deal? I don't know. Has anyone else tried this? Does anyone know any inside information? The particular site in question here is this one:

paid-surveys-at-home.com

Businesses that require you to PAY in order to WORK for them are NEVER legit.

I'm thinking a lot along the same lines. I feel very inclined to agree with ya.

I just them this e-mail:
---------------------------------------
I am interested in purchasing a membership to this site, but I have two questions:
1. How does paid-surveys-at-home.com actually make its money? Surely this company cannot sustain itself solely by collecting one-time membership fees.
2. Will I have to install an application in order to view or take any survey? Or can everything be done from my browser?
Thanks for your time!

Cheers
---------------------------------------
It says to allow two to three business days for a reply. If I get no reply after three days then that will just be the tip-off that they are not legit.

i wish someone would post something useful here because I myself was asking the same question. I expressed some interest in one of these and this lady won't stop emailing me now.

im not sure about the one you are looking into, but there are a few sites that I know of that are legit and do pay off. for example, there is www.inboxdollars.com (if the link is not allowed then let me know and I will remove it). Now that site, you don't have to pay anything to join. you just sign up, start doing surveys and signup up with their sponsors, and each sponsor/survey is worth money. Once you reach at least $30.00, you can request payment and they send you a check. Now, when I did this, it took almost 2 months to receive my check, but when it came, i was a whole $30.00 richer. If you would like to save your money, then i suggest you search around, as there are plenty of sites that you don't have to pay for, and you do get paid, eventually. Some people think they are a waste of time because you have to, lets say fill out surveys or read email for 10 or 20 minutes aday, and all you get are a few cents, but after a while it builds up. If you have the patience I say go for it.

now not all those free ipod sites are scam. some of them do work, however it just takes a long time in some cases to get your item.

The free ipod things aren't scams, they're pyramid schemes. Meaning that it's only a scam to the latecomers (which is pretty much everyone after the first). The guy on top manages to win, and maybe the next level down.

I get phone calls, about once a week for a survey, and a few surveys online. I have made about 100$ this year on it. I never had to pay for it, I just answered one call once, and been on some list I guess.

I signed up for something like this about six months ago. Instead of filling out surveys I just have to click on links to other pages and view them for fifteen seconds each. Each gives me a few cents and it supposedly adds up. I didn't have to pay a membership fee.

The thing is, I get perhaps one or two links per week to click on. It's not a regular thing at all. It takes me all of a minute per week to do and I haven't yet attempted to get my money back, it's a bit of a joke really. If you do want to sign up for something like this, make sure there are surveys coming in often. If you get one or two per week it'll be years before you break even with your measily $40. Look into how many surveys you will actually get, not at what they advertise.

If you browse to this link http://www.ripoffreport.com/lists/1/default1171.htm and searh on PAID-SURVEYS-AT-HOME.COM you'll see why this site is a ripoff.

While I don't know anything about these surveys-at-home deals, I will say that this statement is not altogether true.

Take Avon, for example, a perfectly legitimate company, that charges a fee when you sign up to be a rep.

Also there are a great many businesses that require you to PAY for a uniform in order to work there. There are also many companies that you have to PAY to join a union to work there.

And if you are planning on opening a franchise of a business, you better plan on PAYing a whole bunch of money up front.

Google and you can get that info free. I spent a year unemployed about six years back and looked into just about every home based business out there.

There are many marketing-consumer opinion companies who will pay you per survey. Most amounts are small, but they can add up if you're consistent.

If you can't find 'em, feel free to PM and I'll be happy to share.
