just a meaningless observation

I've noticed over the last few days how many posts have a responce one less than that read.

I mean 10 people are listed as having read a thread and 9 people have posted a reply.

Strange.

(I don't expect this useless thread to be one of them)

I always thought it was because when you post the thread, you (the thread starter) clock up the first view, so you will always have at least that one view before anyone else takes a look, and they add up from there.

I viewed this thread before there were any replies and I didn't post, but it kept being one more view than reply, so I don't know that the posters original view is what does it.

I first noticed it in the Lit forum.. it seems the view counter for views only are not getting recorded for some reason, so the 1 off is the first poster then subsequent replies.

I was under the impression that the Titty Board is unique - almost every viewer has a post - and the "post" is at the viewers end leading to such skewed numbers here in the host site end.

If the TB required a webcam feed to allow return access, the demographic of TFP would quite possibly "swing" wildly in as yet uncharted directions, what with the webcam showing just how the "posts" are handled by the exhibition of the unlurked masses.

The thread is presently listing at 24/25. I've been into the thread several times, but only (with this post) posted twice. So, apparently, each person only counts for one view. Cool, I never knew (or thought about) that.

It's probably because you post a thread, which doesn't count as a reply, but you look at it after you post it, which counts as a view.

I can view the thread many times. It does not change the view count unless I post again. As it says above.

To find out more about this, we would have to read the manual for the VBUlletin V3.0.3
software :-)
