Fuck yeah, that'd be some sweet meat. You could have it with as much/little fat as you wanted. You could make it technically flawless or extremely similar to naturally grown meat. You could even grow it into different shapes. How cool is that.

I've been thinking along the lines of what is help. I don't see this as an end to world hunger... It's more along the lines of "Give a Man a Fish". What are the things that would really help raise the quality of life for people on the planet? Personally I would like to see more resourses, time and energy put into the research of creating sustainable environments as our current methods of farming, mining and development, contribute much toward the desolation of our natural resourses. To respond to the OP, for me it is not a question of 'if I would eat it'.. it is more 'will we have no option but to eat it'?

I can't imagine that the meat would have anywhere near the same flavour and texture that normal "animal" meat would have (I, like many others, prefer not to imagine the cute furry animals that my dinners come from) purely from the fact that that animals, and the meat they carry, are perfected from the movement and, all be-it little exercise they get. The texture and flavour of meat comes from fat and muscle sinue that they grow over time. I can't comprehend how a scientist can create this in a petrie dish.
OK - humans can create many things from stey cell research, which i'm all for - but how can you create a good cut of steak from a laboratory table... I mean KFC are already creating chickens (and maybe by mistake I give them that) without properly formed wings and legs... can you imagine a cow without legs etc squirming on the floor and without a proper brain just to give us some "nice cheap meat"? I think i'd rather be a veggie.....

If it tasted good then why not- though I would be worried about the impact on agriculture- change happens, but here in the us we are already outsourceing everything else (and some agriculture too, come to think about it)

So yeah, I'd eat it. It can't possibly be worse than Slim Jims (this may be a topic for another thread, but why does each Slim Jim have a serial number?) |

I asked my vegitarian wife if she would eat this type of meat and she said it would remove all of her problems with eating meat (i.e. she doesn't eat meat because of the harm to animals not because she doesn't like the taste).
Of course, as I suggested above, I would need to know a lot more about it health wise. Two side notes: 1) I agree that fresh water is a *much* greater concern than food. 2) Is it just me or is this meat like the dish of the day at the Restaurant at the End of the Universe -- If you don't mind, I'll just nip out the back and shoot myself.

Meat is meat. As long as I could still get a good bloody steak that tasted like steak, yeah, I would eat.

I'm in the 'meat is meat' camp. From what I can tell, this is no different in makeup from a carved up cow; so long as it's been thoroughly tested and there aren't any apparent issues with it I don't see what the problem is.

Meat grown in a lab? I dunno. That just sounds gross. I don't think I would eat it. Its against nature and the food chain.
