Mothers/ladies especially... good idea?
Technically this belongs in the advice section... but I want opinions more than advice.
My Mother's birthday is coming up and because my wife and I have baby on the way, I really dont have much $$, so I am going with the "made from the heart" idea. My mother was a writer in college, a fairly good one at that. I recently obtained copies of her many hours laboring over the typewriter, and noticed that while the text is still clear and readable, the paper is fading away. I have a scanner and the ability to OCR (convert scanned text into text on the computer). I have used this to scan all of my writing in the past, and found it very useful. Would you writer ladies/mothers find it a good gift to find scanned, toughed up copies of your old writing put on a CD for you and your to read forever? Would that work as a good gift? Or does that suck? My wife thinks I am too much of an office guy... always doing officey or tech things for gifts. |
I think that's a great idea, but maybe take it to a print shop so they can reprint and bind it for her. That way she'll have the book and the CD.

As a fellow writer, I concur with spectre. Getting them bound will be the perfect way to present your hard work and hers.

also read through all the work after it has been converted to text... my friend had som OCR software that would always mess up on some letters...

I like it.
I think you hit on a good idea. And Happy happy Birthday to your mom ;) |
