I don't drink because...
1) I don't like how it tastes. I only put stuff in my mouth that tastes good. Call me crazy. 2) I don't like being drunk. I just feel stupid (which is true). 3) My family has a history of alcoholism. My dad, with whom I share many traits, is a chronic alcoholic. He just suffered a major mental breakdown because of it. My brother very nearly went the same way, and it's a constant struggle for him. Many other relatives have died, quite simply because they drank. 4) I'd much rather spend my money on video games or sex toys. (Side note: I think I've said that before...) 5) Getting drunk socially doesn't interest me, because when people are drunk I don't find them interesting. I have no desire to get drunk alone. And about a million little reasons. Those are the biggies, though. So why don't you drink, athletics? Seeing as you're "Tilted," I think you'd know by now that it's generally expected that when you start a conversation, you provide some discussion about it. |

I don't drink though occasionally (like maybe twice a year) I will have one or two, but I am usually at home and on my own. I won't drink around others...
1) I don't like drinking because, well.. my Dad was violent when he drank. and, 2) I didn't like what it did to my peers when they drank. I don't have any problems with those that choose to drink though, and some people can do it well without the negative occurrances that I've been witness to.

Ishmal,
You have to be 21 to drink legally here in America. I don't drink because 1) I have no desire to 2) I hate the taste 3) I hate being drunk, I can't do any thing right. Example: Standing directly over the toilet and peed outside the bowl..... I like to be able to control myself all the time, lest some shit happen and I did something stupid that I may regret later. Hang over is a bitch, too. It only happened once in my entire life and I hope it would be the only time. 4) I think I can still have a good time w/o the presence of alcohol. Although, my friends think otherwise... Soft drinks, juices, and water are fine with me.

Veeeery rarely. Don't enjoy being drunk and around New Year's, I finally convinced my parents to give it up for health reasons (alcoholics for years and years) and would feel incredibly hypocritical to be drinking, myself, since it was such a long, difficult battle for them. I also don't want to fall into any patterns like they did and face having to give it up later in life. Addictions are tough.
I do miss a nice glass of wine when I make up a fruit and cheese platter, though. As long as I've eaten that, I've had some nice wine with it.

I don't drink (anymore) because I just grew up. When I was younger (read: 20) I drank because it was a weekend thing with my friends. I had my fun, but now I think it's a pretty stupid way to escape the humdrum of everyday life. It was a phase, and now I'm done with said phase. I would definitely spend the money on sex toys instead!

I used to not drink, both to save money and because trouble seemed to follow me.
These days I seem to drink atleast 3 times a week though. I'm drinking right now. Seems I'm a product of my environment though, working in the oil patch has led me to drink, haha.

I'm not 21, and being drunk doesn't appeal to me. I'd rather get buzzed on caffeine than get all slow-witted and confused with alcohol.
Some of you might be thinking that that doesn't always happen. Well, it'd happen to me, since I can't hold my drink. |

Neither hubby or I have had any alcoholic drinks in probably half a year. We're not tea totallers but we have no desire to drink.
1. I dislike the taste. 2. I don't like the feeling of being drunk. 3. I have to be in control most of the time because I'm caring for my daughter or other children. 4. Alcohol makes me groggy not a party animal. I have more fun when I'm just drinking water or soda. I have alcohol here in my home but haven't cracked one open in ages. Just not interested.

Well, when I was about 8, my dad went into A.A. and has been successfully sober for about 10 years now. I can't really remember how he acted or what his role was [as a father] affected by alcohol, when I was little; but my older sisters say that although he was not verbally nor physically abusive or hostile, his alcoholism wasn't good for the family.
I kind of have that fear, if I start drinking casually, I'll end up like him - that, right there, is direct influence not to drink..... I have had drinks before, albeit very rarely, probably one every few months, if that. My sisters are very casual drinkers as well, I find them more annoying when they're drinking as well. It's pretty ironic, that among the four of us [me, and my sisters ages 23, 27, and 29] I probably drink the least, although I have the access to it as well; since my sister offer to buy it for me and my friends whenever, as long as we don't drive - but I don't take them up on their offer ] Also at my age, 18 in the U.S., going to college this fall, alcohol will no doubt be present [it is already amongst my friends somewhat] but I'd prefer hanging with kids who don't need it to have a good time If you need such a thing as alcohol at a party to enjoy the party, then I think you might have some sort of problem or complex. Lastly, the taste and nutritional value of it doesn't appeal to me one bit either. Plus, the financial costs of it add up quicky, shown by my sisters' bar tabs.

I stopped drinking for about six months, does that count?
If it does, the reason why I stopped is because I found no reason in drinking in the first place. About three weeks ago I have my first drink in six months, thus breaking my streak. Damn you Butter Ripple Schnapps *shakes fist*. Though I was not drunk. |

I rarely drink, and when i do its things that taste good. Which are quite often "girly" drinks as they say, but fuck if I care. I want it to taste good.
So i'd say i drink maybe once every month, and mayb drunk 3 times a year.

I don't!
1. Some people drink it, but don't get drunk. That's like drinking expensive horse piss because you're thirsty. Why drink it if you're not gonna get drunk? Drink a damn Coke. 2. If I did want to get drunk, I'd simply stay up until 6 AM and try to do something that requires motor skills. I've heard being drunk is about 90% exactly like being sleepy-drunk. That's basically it! -Lasereth

I drink a few times a week. This post just reminded me a put a bottle of white wine in the fridge for dinner tonight. i don't drink to excess often and a enjoy a glass of wine with dinner, a nightcap in the evening and a pint at the pub. I don't deny myself from taking pleasure in an occasional drink.

The "Why drink it if you're not gonna get drunk?" attitude was common back in high school, but thankfully, not common now (at least in my circle of freinds). Nice to see some people here aware of the addictiveness of alcohol and abstaining rather than potentially turning into drunks.

I don't. The past year, my first year of college, I drank a little bit, just to try it, and I've just decided it's not for me.

I didn’t drink in high school, just a tad in college, and then got regularly buzzed while clubbing in my twenties.
I only got completely stinking drunk a few times. After the tequila shot episode I never drank more than three drinks again...except for one wedding that had a champagne fountain. I have no idea how many glasses I had (and I have a low tolerance for liquor) and I’m ashamed to say I drove my mom and I home afterwards. An hour after arriving safely home I got the shakes, realizing I could have killed us both. I still thank my lucky stars over that, and I’ve never had more that a couple of drinks at one time since, and NEVER drive when I do. Nowadays I’ll occasionally have a Guinness, or a vodka tonic, or a White Russian – total drinks this past year was probably six. |

Rare to occasional. My reasons are: a) loss of control (emotions of other ppl when they are drunk really turns me off - especially anger) b) my mother was an alcoholic c) my brother was born premature with fetal alcohol syndrome (he's mentally and physically retarded, almost 23 years old, his size is comparable to a 4 or 5 year old and his mentality is within the range of 2-4 year old).
I am also 100% against drunk driving - I know for a fact no matter how inebriated I am I will NOT get behind the wheel even when I've only had 1, 2 or even 3 (I'm tipsy by 3 or 4 beers, so there ya go).

I haven't touched it to speak of in 30 years.
I started drinking in college and within a year or two was binge drinking once in a while. Blackouts and thinking I got home by magic a few times. We had a Christmas party at work 6 months after I graduated college and I out-drank the department alcoholic. Trying to carry on work that day while partying was interesting. My brother had a graduation party with lots of beer which ended up getting busted by the cops because we were too rowdy. I was worried that the cops were going to shoot me because I was going after a starter pistol in the back of my car or that I would be in jail for having my brother's underage friends at the party. So that was pretty much the end of the drinking. Just as well, since my father was an abusive alcoholic that I didn't want to be like. Since then I've very rarely had a drink. the last couple times I remember are a glass of champagne in a Paris nightclub and a couple of O'Douls, which I ended up getting slightly buzzed because they really are something like 1% alcohol. I don't miss the drinking. |

It is so nice to hear that I am not the only one who doesn't drink. After 27 years of not doing it, the people you know who also don't drink deminishes.
My girlfriend, who I love greatly and is nearly perfect, likes to have wine or a beer when she goes out and for some reason it just eats me up inside. I don't know what it is that gets to me about it. I generally have a lot of control over my thoughts and emotions, but not on this. Does anyone else get that feeling? How do you get around it? |
