First credit card? Be careful... Remember that's real money, that gets paid back with a high interest rate...
With that said... I'm an www.amazon.com addict -- books, dvds, music, they've parterned with other companies so now have clothes, toys, cooking stuff-- everything on the planet. For gifts for other people www.redenvelope.com www.uncommongoods.com Both have unique stuff that you won't find everywhere else. Uncommon goods also has a lot of really unique home decorating accessories.

oh, overstock.com is LOVELY! But don't buy things just cause they're a good deal...

If you are doing comparison shopping. www.froogle.com is your friend, it will find you all the places that are selling the item that you are looking for.
The best thing about www.overstock.com is their shipping price. Mostly everything ships for 2.95 or less, including furniture. Their stock is constantly changing too, one thing you really have to watch with them, is most of their electronics is refurbished. It says it clearly in the ad, but you have to look for it.

I use shopping.com for most of my shopping. You find pretty much the best deal online.

What I've found, is basically you should be fine with any of the larger companies. I've never had a problem, just following the basics of making sure the site is authentic and secure.

Interesting site, fun concept. Each day, they sell one item and one item only. If it's good, it'll be sold out before lunch. Happy shopping. |

whatever you do, remember it's VERY easy to impulse shop online...Don't buying shit, cause you see it's online and looks like a good deal. Sometimes, the brick and mortar store even have a better deal than the online store[s].
/end of sermon... check out resellerratings.com for info on reviews of online stores, though remember to take them for what they're worth.... for computer/electronics newegg.com is pretty good.. [will edit more in later]

for shoes, there is not a single place better than www.zappos.com
In fact, I think they are my favorite online seller, above even newegg. I ordered a pair of shoes recently, and they were upgraded to 2nd day air for free.(I had picked the free option, 4-5 day shipping.) When they arrived, there were a few small defects on one of the shoes. I called up customer service, and they gave me a UPS shipping label and shipped out a new pair immediatly. The exchange pair arrived 18 hours after I called them. Amazing customer service. Also, as I saw previously suggested, always do a quick check of the website at www.resellerratings.com and make sure they're a decent company. |

Well you said the magic word.... DVDs....
here are some links to start you off http://www.dvdpricesearch.com/ (best place to do compare prices for dvds) and http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com (cheap prices only "problem" is slow shipping, but the slow shipping option is free) I will also recommend resellerratings for any website/store that you have never heard of. |

I am a big fan of half.com
They have a lot of cool stuff. The place works by connecting buyers and sellers. When you buy things you are not actually getting it from the operators of the site. Instead from people who are offering the item through the site.

When you look at Amazon for CDs be sure to look at the "new and used" prices first!!!!!!!! Typically a 13 dollar CD can be had for 4 or 5 when you factor in tax. Not too shabby!
I would agree that credit cards are SCARY STUFF. Their whole business is beating the crap out of you, and they're really good at it. |
