Do you Snoop?
A comment was made in another thread, that someone stated that they didn't know any women who didn't snoop. Let's open it up to all sexes... Do you snoop?
I told the story in chat one night, that I jokingly kept marbles in my medicine cabinet because I knew people snooped, and I wanted to catch them in the act. (way more fun than hiding anti-fungal cream or other stuff in there to make them wonder) If you have marbles in the medicine chest, when the cabinet opens, the marbles go crashing into the sink - creating quite a racket,a nd the snooper gets red in the face... it's good harmless fun.. So, how about you -- do you snoop>

Yes, god yes.
Not out of anything sinister, I'm just an incorrigible curious monkey sometimes. I like to know what's behind locked doors and in places people don't want you to look. I guess more than anything I dislike not knowing everyone's secrets. That sounds awful! Mostly though I just do my thing by exploring abandoned buildings, or even better, occupied ones.

I have to urge and even catch myself reaching, but then I have that mental check of realizing how much it might bother me if someone were snooping in my things. Trust is important to me and if my friends can't rely on me for the little things, how are they going to count on me for the big stuff?

When I was doing apartment maintenance I was looking through someone's dvd collection. I had no idea he was home until he walked out of his bedroom to see me in his stuff. I was pretty embarrassed.
One time I looked through my mom's stuff and saw a couple photos of, uh, R-rated content. That was the last time I looked through her stuff. |

having access to peoples private records on their PCs in business and homes, I do not snoop.
I am observant of what I am exposed to but I'm not snooping for snooping sake. I definitely do not snoop on my wife.

I glance at things that are out, like DVDs, but not private things, like e-mail or phone records or something like that.

The only time I "snoop" is when I look for something my sister has taken from me. If I'm certain I haven't just misplaced the item, I'll go into her drawers, and when I find it, I take it back and then don't look any further.

I do not snoop i observe. I agree that i may observe more than most but would never open draws or doors unless i have good reason to. However sitting around i take everything in that is on display.

I don't snoop. Not that I'm never curious, but I'd be mortified if I was ever caught, and sometimes you find out more than you really want to know.

I voted as a non-snooper, but I'll admit I used to be a nasty snoop when I was a kid. I think I realized that it wasn't the kind of person I wanted to be when I was dating ubertuber. He's the Anti-Snoop. I would ask him to hand me something out of my purse and he would just bring me the whole purse so that he wouldn't have to open it and see what was inside. The same even went for if it was my very heavy backpack in the next room. He's right; people should be able to expect their privacy. These days I'm just a very observant person. Anything that's out in the open is fair game.

I used to be much more of a snoop, but I'm not anymore. I don't go through hubby's stuff unless its in his pants pockets when I wash his clothes...and then it's just receipts usually. I always look, just in case it's something to do with school or a phone number or something, and he knows I do it and doesn't care. I still voted yes because anytime I go over to my sisters house, I go through her things because she's stolen so much stuff from me in the past. I find things that are "mine" all the time. I really should stop; it just ends up pissing me off.

Hell no.
I grew up in a large family and did not have much privacy, so privacy is a big thing with me. I don't want anyone going through my shit, so I don't go through anyone else's stuff. I'd be pretty pissed if I caught one of my roommates rummaging through my things when I came home one day. I have caught girlfriend's going through my stuff before though, and I was definitely not happy about that. |

You know, ideally I would like to say I don't snoop. I would prefer to ask straight up.
The main conflict for me here is I would say I snoop when I monitor my daughters use on the computer. I check her history, cookies and such, I also have her msn messenger logging to a file she is not aware of. This is technically snooping. I do it to monitor influences and occurrences for safety and moral purposes, just the same way my father snooped in my room when I was a kid. He did it to see where I was at, he never used anything against me that he found, I was upset he snooped but ultimately I had to accept that anything he did find, I shouldn't have been doing it! Snooping between friends and partners - no, I think that can and should be handled openly.

Only dee-oh-double-gee!
I put myself down as a non-snooper, because normally I don't. Occasionally I'll check something out if I'm already there for a reason, but I tend to leave peoples' private stuff alone. Kinky: I don't think you could suggest anything that wouldn't seem cute.

I like to see what's on people's bookshelves if I'm in their room or house or whatever, but it really grates on my nerves when people snoop. I consider things on bookshelves or whatever to be out for public display.
Snooping is bad though.

used to clean houses for extra cash...no never snooped never wanted to but when your cleaning you see things 'normal' guests may not (marbles would end up in sink as the medicine cabinet shelves are dusted regularly). In my private life with my friends,no cos I respect other peoples right to raise dust-bunnies in private.

I'm not a snooper. When I was a kid I did a little snooping and made up stories about why someone would have such-and-such an object. Now I find that people will tell me about the important stuff in their lives whether I want to hear it or not, and if they don't there is a good reason for it.

I would never do it in someone else's house. However, I know I will be a snooper as a father. If I can be held responsible for my children's actions (as the courts have now ruled), I will do everything I can to know what's going on in their lives. BTW, I don't have children yet.

I'll look around at stuff that's in plain sight; If it's out in view on a shelf, I assume it's meant to be displayed. I won't open drawers or medicine cabinets or stuff like that, so I voted non-snooper.

I don't open drawers or look behind closed doors. Stuff that is in plain sight, like books on shelves and CD collections are fair game though, and I like to look at those to see if we have anything in common, or if they have an interest that I wasn't aware of.
I enjoy peeking through wallets and day planners, but I do it with permission from the owner, and I don't mind having them go through mine. |

I'm a semi-snoop. I've looked in medicine cabinets, although not often, and I have no clue why. I like Mal's marbles idea. (Personally, I keep anything incriminating out of my medicine cabinet!)
I used to be a snoop. I opened Jess's diary a few times when we first started dating. Like Lurkette said, I found out things I didn't want to know. We had a long discussion about it. We're both way more honest with each other in general, and I never feel the need to snoop anymore.

I never understood snooping.. especially the medicine cabinet. WTF do people care what's in the bathroom medicine cabinet? Are they lookin for pills or something? hahah...
But yeah, I imagine it would be a waste of time, as 99% of the time you probably wouldn't find anything unusual. What do they expect to find.. some secret stash of money, or a porn collection? Wooo...

I love to snoop but not in things like people's medicine chests...
I like to explore buildings and public spaces. When I was a teenager I would always explore the rear hallways at the mall. When I worked at a hospital I explored every inch of the place. In the case of personal space... if it is someone I know or love. I don't generally snoop. I don't want to know their personal stuff. If it is someone I don't know, for example my wife's running partner asked me to look after her cat for a week, I snooped a bit...

I need to qualify my previous answer. I did snoop on my daughters when they were teenagers, but I was very up front about doing it. I installed parental control software and logging software on the computer and demonstrated that I could find out everything they did. Our telephone billing was also set up to log all calls. While I rarely looked at the logs, I think knowing that dad could check up on them kept them out of trouble. Is it snooping if you tell them you are doing it? |

I have the urges, but I dont snoop lol I do have a thing about looking at peoples bookcases to see what books they like to read, or a DVD collection to see if they have something I want to borrow....but like others have said, its always out on "display" so I really dont think its snooping.
The only time I ever look in someones bathroom cabinets is if I am going to the bathroom and notice the toilet paper roll is empty AFTER I've already, um...taken a seat. I try to make sure I notice if there is any before I go though. I do not EVER read Dave's emails or any documents he has on his computer, even though we share it. If he has something he wants me to read I make him open it and show it to me. The only time I open mail with his name is if it has my name on it also.

I've been red faced too many times to continue snooping. Who cares what's in the med cabinet, or your sock drawer. At my previous job, we had personal folders that only we could get to. I found by accident, a file of a person that left. I looked around to see what he/she had saved, but did not look at individual files. I made sure my folder had nothing in it when I left, so no one else could see. Also, I knew the back up was kept for 6 weeks, and my folder was destroyed long before this.

Oh yeah, and when I'm in people's houses I look at their bookshelves; it tells you something about them. But that's something that you can do in plain sight without offending, so while it's technically snooping it's still socially acceptable. As long as you don't go reaching behind other books in search of their secret stash of beastiality porn or something! |
