Peanut butter: creamy or crunchy
Not to hijack this thread, I've created a poll to see where everyone stands.
I personally prefer Skippy creamy to all others. What do you prefer? |
If it don't have no peanut chunks in it, it ain't peanut butter, it's some bizarre imitation peanut-butter-like substance.
|
I like both. Depends on the mood and what its being used for. Generally chunky wins out though
|
I cant stand crunchy peanut butter, if I want peanuts I will just buy me a jar.
its skippy creamy (or Jiff if I cant find skippy) |
Super Chunk reigns King of all those that call themselves peanut butter!
|
PB&J I'm allll about the creamy, but if I'm just throwing it on bread to eat alone, it's a tossup.
|
Crunchy is the only way to go, the look of it alone makes it worth while to eat. When i was a kid i remember claiming that my toast looked alot like the moon when it had bumps of the crunch. This statement still holds true even today (if you imagine hard enough)
|
Creamy. Always.
We had a brand here called "Squirrel" peanut butter, and it came with a peanut on top of a new jar, and it was always a treat to get to open the new jar. Then a couple of years ago, the "Squirrel" (this cute little happy squirel with a neat green jacket) suddenly got a name....... SKIPPY! Yeah, you heard me. SKIPPY bought out my childhood friend. Now I just don't care what brand I buy, I am so disillusioned. |
Creamy all the way.
*shudders* I don't even want to think about chunky. |
I non-voted the "both" option. Sometimes I want the texture and othertimes I don't. The positive about crunchy is that the peanut taste has an identifiable source.
Sometimes I just don't trust those big sealed factories that have mysterious trains of tanker cars pull in, and boxcars pull out, and all I see is a row of jars on a shelf. What's in them tanker cars? Whatever it is there is now a little bit in me too. |
Jif Creamy. With strawberry jam. I don't buy anything else; if the grocery store is out of Jif, I go home peanutbutter-less.
If I'm just eating it straight out of the jar on a spoon though....crunchy is some good stuff. (yes, I'm weird) |
Both are good, but they have to be Kraft Light (they spell it Lite perhaps) peanut butter. Less fat, and sooooo much tastier.
|
CRUNCHY!
How anyone could eat that other crap is beyond me! |
You left out the "half and half" option: I like creamy on one side and crunchy on the other because there's too much crunch in crunchy and not enough (well, any) in smooth. But I voted crunchy since it arguably amounts to the same thing.
|
I like creamy, usually JIF
|
Crunchy, freshly made.
Cashew butter or Almond butter are also really awesome. I am not a fan of the Skippy's or Jifs because they have too much sugar in them... The 100 percent natural stuff is quite good, and it's good exercise stirring up the peanut oil... :D My favorite sammich in college (when i was young and didn't have to worry about my arteries) was peanut butter and bacon on rye bread toast... mmmmmmm.... |

Peanut butter and apples is also quite tasty |
Creamy peanut butter is the best. I don't mind peanuts plain, but I don't really care for them in my peanut butter.
|
tough call.....if i'm spreading it on bread, then creamy.....if i'm eating it straight out of the jar or with ritz crackers, then crunchy.
|
I prefer chunky. But that may just be because I rarely had it during my childhood. So when I did, it was a rare surprise. Hmmm...

I love all peanut butter. In all seriousness, my roommate calls me peanut butter. I would say, however, that my favorite is Jif reduced fat creamy. I realized what the difference is between the reduced fat stuff and regular- it's pumped up with soy protein instead of all peanut. I like the texture.
|
Can I say both? it really depends on what I am putting it on.
|
I hate Skippy. I hate Jiff. But I still loves me a good creamy peanut butter... store brand style. My family now buys the *shudder* organic stuff. I like my peanut butter to taste like sugar, not peanuts, thank you very much.
|
Crunchy on sandwiches.
Creamy on toasted breads, and in smoothies and recipes. |
The natural stuff for toast and crunchy store for anything else.
|
Crunchy on anything. The only thing I hate about Peanut Butter, is the awful smell it leaves on your breath.
|
I want Uber Chunky. It appears that the poll is pretty much 50/50 right now.
|
I like Laura Scudder's crunchy peanut butter. By comparison, Jiff and Skippy taste like candy paste.
|
You "creamy" fans are fools! Fools! :)
There is no comparison, chunky peanut butter is the only peanut butter worth eating. My sandwiches have to have a bit of crunch to them (potato chips, crisp lettuce, bacon bits, whatever). Without the crunch, there's no sandwich. It's like paste on bread. So until they come out with crunchy jelly, I'm afraid it's chunky peanut butter for me. |
The best peanut butter is that which resides within the Resse's Peanut Butter Cup (or better, the seasonal shapes- i.e. the egg, heart, Christmas tree, and pumpkin).
Second to that is natural somewhat-chunky PB with chunks no larger than 1/8 inch (larger chunks get stuck in my teeth). Since I've eaten and grown to love the the natural stuff, Jif and Skippy now taste like processed peanut-flavored sugar paste to me. Thier chunky versions taste the same, but with added peanut factory floor sweepings. Reese's actually made PB in a jar and sold it in stores for a while, but the texture was all wrong- not enough sugar granules or something. |
I prefer crunchy myself, although "natural" peanut butter is more important to me that whether it has peanut bits in it. Just grind up those peanuts, yum! It just tastes better.
Sadly, it has been over three years since a true PB&J* has passed my lips. The Baronet is allergic to peanuts, and as peanut allergies are almost always severe, we keep a peanut-free house. Weep for me. * The true PB&J is made with elderberry jelly, of course. |
damn, it's neck and neck at this point in time! Creamy all the way...just love the buttery melting feeling that sticks to your mouth...crunchy is ok on occasion though
|
I like both, and both call for different occasions. If i had to choose thoe atm i would choose creamy over crunchy.

I gotta have it crunchy, yum yum yummier!
In fact, let's have ourselves a dinner out at Peanut Butter & Company!!! They are a little place in Greenwich Village with all homemade PB and all the variations. Anyone live near enough by??? They even have white chocolate pb and dark chocolate pb and cinnamon and spicy and chunky and smooth, and they stock fluff - strawberry, rasberry, and original. Oh, and their PB milkshake is to die for. It's so so soooo good. Who's with me???? |
mmmmmmmmmmmm.... fluffernutter sammich... gotta be on toast... raisin bread toast...
|
that could happen... i don't know all the kinds of bread they have, but that could happen - c'mon people, we need a peanut butter field trip!!
