Can't buy condoms? Get another country to donate 'em...
Let's hear it for New Jersey!!!
US covers condom shortcoming AN American sex shop will shower a NSW town with free condoms after hearing the local chemist refused to stock the contraceptive. The small town of Merriwa, in the NSW Upper Hunter Valley, has been thrust into the public spotlight after it was revealed its only pharmacy would not sell condoms. A recent NSW health report found the Hunter and New England regions had one of the highest teenage birth rates in the state at 6 per cent, compared with 1.6 per cent in Sydney. But the local pharmacy, which refused to comment yesterday, will not stock condoms on ethical grounds. Adult store Playtime Boutique in New Jersey, US, heard the news and mailed a box of about 1000 condoms to the town on Monday, care of the mayor. "One of our customers actually brought in a newspaper clipping," the store's merchandise manager Michael Drake said. "And when we saw that we said, 'Hey, we need to send them some condoms.' " Upper Hunter Valley Shire Mayor Barry Rose said the council was prepared to help distribute the condoms to the town of about 2000 people once they arrived. The Pharmacy Guild of Australia said the chemist was well within its rights not to stock condoms. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I'm so proud of my state for helping out... It's things like this that bring the world closer together... OK... serious mode now... If the chemist/pharmacist in the town that you lived in didn't sell condoms, what would you do? the chemist is within their rights to sell or not sell whatever they want, but wouldn't a person just go to another store? Or buy them on the internet? It's a pretty big jump in teen pregnancy rates from the city to this area -- is lack of condoms really to blame?

Abstinence is an option, but it's not very logically sound if you ask me, I didn't become a parent at 20 due to lack of abstinence.
I'd probably be looking to order them off the internet, but finding a viable retailer that would ship them might be a little difficult. As for the NJ company shipping them a stash, 1000 probably isn't going to last very long!

Surely the pharmacy isn't the only place to sell them? What about the local supermarket, or any convenience store? I know there wouldn't be a 7-11 in a town of 2,000 people but even the smallest towns in Australia seem to have an IGA that would sell them.
Although I remember once going to an IGA in Melbourne and they didn't stock them, so maybe that pharmacy is really the only place that would be likely to sell them. |

If I were a resident and the pharmacy will not stock them (which they have every right to do,) I would post notices in public areas informing people of the availability on the Internet, and with phone numbers of places that would sell and ship them. I would spend a few minutes (or hours) each day on public property near the pharmacy handing out this information.
