State of the TFP Address
I've tried to write this as a smooth, inspirational piece about the TFP, how great it is, and all the great things we're gonna be doing with it in the future. Unfortunately, I haven't really been in the right frame of mind to let it flow, so you're all getting the quick and dirty version. I can only hope that you'll weave in your own exclamations of grandure to coincide with all the cool things I hope to do.
The TFP as a message board is approaching terminal capacity. There is only so much you can fit into a board of this type. Sure, I could add little features here and there, but they would only serve to promote chatter, as opposed to the real currency - discussion. That's why we have to think a little harder to keep the world looking fresh and interesting. Here are things that are slated for the future: 1. The return of Tilted Magazine. Art is taking the helm on this one and he's positively inspired. We're hoping for the same turnout as the first version, but we're taking it at a much more responsible pace. You're all going to get a chance to contribute, so keep your eyes peeled for our open call of submissions. There will be guidelines for submitted work, but we know many of you are anxious to be a part of this, so it wont be too difficult. 2. New moderator hires. I will be asking for moderator applications sometime soon. It's time to polish up that posting record if you'd like to be heavily considered. 3. Knowledge base compilation. I would like to work on a compilation (perhaps a wiki) of the various resources that TFP users have created over the years. I'm all for making information more readily availible, so this project will be aimed at careful organization and accurate information. 4. Tilted Cafe. I've posted about this before. I've talked about this before. I moved to New York to persue this idea. I'm still very enthusiastic about it. Just think - a real life Tilted community. I would like to calmly mention it on the off-chance that someone out there is willing to help me with any one of the following: grant requests, grant offers, a lot of fucking money to be invested in a community and culture project, business advice, or any random ideas. 5. Media Expansure. Eventually... you will get Tilted in many more ways than one. The in-between is the mystery. Still figuring it out. If you have anything to say about any of the above ideas, please get in touch with me so we can have a little talk. Thank you. And thank you once again for keepin' it Tilted. |
<marquee width="400" behavior="alternate">:Hail Halx, our Fearless Leader:</marquee> Cafe and the knowledge compilation projects sound awesome. However, just a note to all TFPers, wikipedia is not that reliable for I have found my share of sources in it that are incorrect. |
I can see the Tilted brand working well as a franchise of sorts with the right minds (check) and money (looks like this may be the sticking point) behind it. Good luck!
|
Sounds fantabulistic. The cafe especially intrigues me.
|
The knowledge base thing sounds like a great idea. I search for how to do X, on here more than anything.
|
Damn. I'm in. I ain't got much goin on for me right now, so I can totally help y'all. Hit me up on aim or PM or whatevs.
|
Halx, thanks for the heads-up. exciting stuff!
I've always been proud to be here, and i can only see that increasing :) I like all of your ideas, and I could see myself quite interested in helping with the 'knowledge base'. Go TFP! |
Normally I'd be up in arms about the commercialization and the selling-out and all that bullshit, but I absolutely love the Tilted Cafe and the magazine ideas. I have a few ideas for contributions to the magazine too. I'm excited about this

Good news, Halx!
......................... Regarding Tilted Magazine: Here are general submissions guidelines: We are now accepting complete first drafts of original writing and artwork. Your submissions become the property of TFP. ("Submissions become the property of TFP" means: We can hold on to submissions, we don't have to return them, and we can publish them any time we want - or we can choose to not publish them. Creators still retain rights of authorship and re-publication.) Submission does not guarantee publication. Send first drafts to me, ARTelevision, via Private Message and if your work is accepted for publication I'll get back to you about working with an Editor . Thanks. |
The best guideline to the Titled Cafe would be the Callahan's Place books by Spider Robinson. I've always felt that the TFP was the living embodiment of the spirit of Callahan. It is very light science fiction, but the specific rules (and games) of their bar could help give us guidelines. "Shared pain is lessened, shared joy increased."

I'd love to contribute to the Tilted Magazine as soon as classes end, keep us informed on the Cafe too, I'd love to take my wife out and visit when you have it up and running!
|
This is just one of the reasons this place is so great, you are always looking for ways to make this a better place. New features and continual updates keep the site fresh and exciting. Thank you for your hard work.

Well, can't wait to see what comes about. If you need help or anything, holler.

This place is amazing, and yet stuff is still being added... Wow.
Great ideas (of course), and I'd be more than willing to help in any way I can. |
I'm a little late on this, but if I end up staying in the northeast for law school, you can bet your ass I'll be making my way to a Tilted Cafe. That sounds like a really great idea. Hard to put together, obviously, but keep us posted.
Thanks as always for all the hard work, Hal. |
ohh sounds wonderful! halx its so amazing how much work and how many great ideas you have for this place...your awsome!
|
I really like this whole community. I don't know what I would do if I coulden't express my opinions here.
I'd have to talk about my opinions with the people of Party Poker. Plus you guys have weakened my betting addiction. |
Anything come of the Tilted Cafe? That is a very interesting idea, and I think the few places it might work (in the US) would be NY or San Francisco and possibly LA. If you are still pursuing this Hal shoot me a PM. How much do you consider "a lot of fucking money" to be? I think with the right approach it doesn't have to be that much.
|
Tilted Cafe sounds like an awesome idea, too bad I don't live in the US... Knowledge base sound fantastic too, would happily contribute whatever I can.
|
Tilted Cafe sounds very interesting. Have you considered the porn aspect though? We're talking about a real life venture that needs to have a LOT of people buying shit from it in order to succeed. Obviously none of us here are opposed to porn on the TFP, or we wouldn't be here. But would you be able to attract the necessary customer base if this cafe were associated with a group that will be associated by outsiders with porn?
|
I still keep meaning to contribute to Tilted Magazine. One of these days I'll get over that shy, not wanting to go on a limb thing.
Of course, every time that mood hits, I visit Tilted Politics and scurry back onto the tree. |
