not sure if this is supposed to go in the computers thread, but figured it would get more exposure here.

anyone apparently can try this and get information on anyone. do background checks, home addresses, and phone numbers. and this is just for non-members. imagine what members can get.

aren't you, the person being investigated, allowed a say on whether or not to have your background checked? is this some sort of infringement on our privacy? i'm not sure about any of you, but i consider my home address and home phone personal information.

what do you all think?

I just looked up myself, my parents, both sets of grandparents, and a good friend of mine... no results. All of us are unlisted in the phone book, so I think that might make a difference. When I looked up a couple of friends that I knew were listed, I got results.

For those that consider their home address and phone number private, don't list them in the phone book. Problem solved.

Don't know about that one greeneyes. My number has been unlisted for years, but it brought up my name, address, and even my birthdate.

Now, for $20.00, I could learn even more about myself!

It had nothing on me. But then again, I don't live in the states.

my parents' number is supposed to be unlisted. phone books don't include us for the small fee we have to pay. but i was able to find my parents' listings in the search.

oh yeah, btw, i think it works for the states only

It found the last three locations my parents lived, but not me, and I've been out of the house for 3 years and counting now. Maybe they don't catalog cell phone numbers? oh well.
