Help with fashion problem

Hi, i have a slight problem/delimma here...

my lady's sorority formal is this saturday and i had a tux/formal suit from my music major days and it fits well..now the problem

1. I have a cast on my right arm/hand that prevents my getting into the coat of the tux
2. i do not like the tux pants that accompany the jacket w/out the jacket. They simply are uncomfortably thin

so, as it stands, i have pair of black wool pants, socks, patent leather shoes, and i need to know about what would work as a top taht would be both formal and would fit over a cast, probably meaning a jacket would be out of the question...

Help? i have thought about doing a vest/tux style shirt but i am not certain if that will workwell and i just need more ideas, hopefully that won't cost a fortune..

sounds like you could kind of drape the tux top over the injured arm, leaving it unbuttoned ( like tony montoya in scarface )- but I am having trouble envisioning that as tux coats varry widely lately- plus, a cast grants you certain leeway- I had similar probs myself when I shattered my humerous and found most of the formal occasions were quite accomodating....

How about taking it to a tailor, explain your problem and ask them to open the seam along the inside of the arm, sewing in some velcro on each seam.
Then, add matching velcro to a piece of black material that makes up for the gap caused by the cast's extra diameter.

After the ball, you can then take the jacket back and have them remove the velcro, restitch the seam.

Just don't drape any cloth over the tux or people will be waving at you and saying "Oh waiter..."

It's gonna be tough being formal without a jacket. WillyPete's suggestion sounds like a good one, if you have enough time for it.

I think it's typical in those cases to wear the jacket over the arm, rather than putting your arm through it.

Just remembered.

In these type of events, they'll normally have a photographer right?
Will your girl be wanting a photo of you both?

If so then you'll want some kind of jacket. Prefereably one that will not look different to your trousers. In a camera's flash, the material can look startlingly different.
If you have to have a photo, you can always borrow a jacket and explain nicely to the photographer what your concerns are. He can then arrange you so that your good arm's shoulder is facing the cam so that you can hide your cast behind your date.
He can also recompose the shot so that any clash with your trousers and the jacket don't show.

It is her night after all, and any memories of the event will be more important to her. Make sure you clear ANY decision with her first.
