As sad day... A man who should by all rights be dead already... sped up the process.
The American journalistic tradition can be said to suck... now it has a sucking chest wound.

It doesn't surprise me that he shot himself, but it's the true narcissist fucker who does it and leaves the mess for his family to find at the kitchen table. I judge a man by the way he treats his family more than anything else, and I'm angry that such a talent was also such an egotistical asshole in the end.

Well I guess if anything was going to drive the father of gonzo journalism over the edge, it would have been this whole bullshit Jeff Gannon thing.
In all seriousness though, I mourn his death. The night before he died, I did feel myself winning over dinner party guests in a political debate using the man's own distinctive brand of rhetoric. For what it is, that is my humble tribute. |

I remember reading FATILV when I was a kid... I was floored by the writing style and obviously the content.
I never read any of the rest of the things he wrote... shame this is going to make me read them finally...

seriously, i haven't been this upset over the death of someone i've never met since princess diana was killed in that car accident. i admired Hunter both as a person, and as an author. he was an incredible man, who had a lot of work still left in him. this is truely some very sad news. it's hard for me to put into words what i'm feeling right now. all i can say is that he will be missed. a lot. R.I.P.

Like so many others I can't believe this actually happened... the man I admire most for his fluency and artful use of the language... suddenly gone. He should have been dead long ago, but he escaped the odds just to fall victim to his own hand... it pains me to see someone go like that.
We have indeed lost one of the best. I raise my pipe to thee, Hunter. May the high and beautiful wave that was your life, though finally broken, never roll back. |
