school issue

i bought used book for my one class, i didn't notice it was written in, i ussually look for the best book......

but apperently the copy i got has alot of anwsers written in it... the teacher of the class does do homework that we have to bring to class..... i was going to bring it back to the bookstore and swap it later this week... then i figured i can keep it, since he assigns large amounts of questions, once i fully understand the subject, (which is kinda easy...), i can just copy down anwsers to save time for other subjects.... the questions also appear on cd-rom, soo i could view them without anything written next to them... the cdrom is also self correcting...

what should i do... return it to get a copy without anwsers or keep it to save time once i understand it fully..?

I would keep it.

I never minded if someone had written or highlighted in one of my books. Usually it was the same teacher for the subject, so I just used the highlights or notes in the book as somewhat of a cheat sheet. Never bothered me.

The only problem that I think could arise is that the answers written in your book are wrong. That would not be good if you do not really understand what you are reading.

alot of the anwsers are scratched out and corrected...... i really don't want to cheat... but if the teacher ever would comment on all the anwsers in the book, i could just say i didn't use the book and used the cdrom instead to avoid the issue

i really don't want to shortcut in anyway thats bad... i'm just gonna use it once i've done enough

You got what you paid for. When the books are returned, it is the job of the person receiving the book back from the seller to check for stuff like that. I would consider it good fortune, hope the answers are right and go with it. Just don't sell yourself short. If you don't understand something, don't just use the answers and get by.

Short answer, you can't.

It's only enabled in the Creativity forums.

if you know how to check the answers...and if you can do the problems on the test...then it's between you and the book.

Think of it as a gift from the god of college. Take it and be happy.

Keep it, Saving time is worth gold when youre studying.

Sorry but when I was grading for Calculus -it would piss me off to no end when some student would mark down the answer without showing their work. In the standard textbook all the answers (without the work leading to the answer) was given on the bottom of the homework page. It was as if the students thought I was exceptionally stupid or something. ie. 2x+4 = 10 *a miracle happens* and x=3

roderickpsu 01-15-2005 07:24 PM

I'd say keep the book...do your work on your own...and then check the answers you get with the ones written in....

warrrreagl 01-15-2005 07:52 PM

It depends on what kind of student and person you are. If you are only interested in the grade, then keep the book, use the answers, and don't learn anything. If you are interested in learning but don't trust yourself, return the book. If you are interested in learning and have trust in yourself, then keep the book and only use the answers to check your work.
