If you think you're tough...
You ain't got shit on these guys. Bike Messengers. Check out these video of these guys in action.
I've riden around Denver a lot and have even gotten hit by a few cars but I would never, ever ride New York or San Fran. That's just fuckin' crazy Do we have any bike messengers out there? Anyone thinking about doin' it but not anymore? |
Awesome. Those crazy bastards are GOOD.
Great stuff... |
daaaang... thats insane... i'll zoom around lubbock like that occasionally... and to class around campus... but thier doin it on a huge scale with a ton of frickin traffic... thats crazy...
|
I think it would be an amazing job - but in Dallas people would prefer to use freaking FedEx to go from one side of town to the other...
|
that shit is insane, Ive seen something on the discovery channel about it and some old guy in a big ass SUV just looked at the bike messanger and opened his door anyway, the bike messanger came INCHES from hitting this guys door and some old lady got it on camera because she was filming her young niece doing something
|
The New York one especialy was... INSANE! They swoop between moving cars, with space between them I wouldn't even attempt on foot, let alone on a bike .
|
I did a 6 month stint as a bike courier in London about 15 years ago. Pretty sketchy scene. I had 2 crappy bikes ripped off, got hit by a taxi and ran over a couple pedestrians. In 6 months I lost/destroyed about 5 bikes slightly better than average. At the time most were losing/destroying one per month.

These guys must be from Boston, the last 8 clips look like they are in the Boston area. It was cool to watch the big dig one, and actually see what I expected was going on down there... absolutely nothing.
|
that shit is great

I lasted one day as a bike messenger. Don't get me wrong, I had a blast darting in and out of traffic, cutting through every underground parking garage shortcut I knew of. I don't think my body was having as much fun as I did though. When I got home from my first day on the job, I immediately retired to the couch to rest my aching body, I put my arms behind my head and promptly popped my shoulder out of joint. I couldn't bike for 2 weeks so I had to tell the messenger service that I couldn't take the job. I'd go back and try it again now if my current job didn't pay more and was far less risky.
|
Yeah, that guy is based out of Boston, but there are some messenger "races" in NY that he apparently goes to frequently.
|
the ice one looks like a lot of fun...
if we get a good freeze here this semester im gonna have to go for a bike ride... |
I was a bike courier for about a year... I was never more fit in my life.
The hardest part of the job was the cold in winter and riding in the snow and ice... other than that it was a very sweet life to live. |
wow.. those guys are amazing.. I really like the couch coach :)
i dont think i have enough in me to do those routes, but I would enjoy it for a short period. Looks like fun. |
Couple of my friends are bike messagers (I work at a bike shop). One dude broke his leg about two weeks before he was supposed to start his messanger job while at a downhil race.. he wanted the job so bad he started anyways.. with a broken tibia... insane.

Those guys just seemed like a group of assholes who didn't care about other people's safety. Dozens of accidents could have been caused by them and it would be entirely their fault. I admire them for their bravery (stupidity?) but they don't seem to care about anyone's safety.

what I find both amusing and annoying is that, if I were to do HALF of that on my motorcycle, I would be arrested for wreckless driving.
just because they don't have an engine, doesn't mean the normal rules of a veichle do not apply... having said that, I DEFINATELY admire the skill it takes to successfully pilot a bicycle like that for even 10 minutes. why the hell the air force isn't taking those guys and plopping them right into fighter jets is beyond me... |
