David Faustino - Married With Children - On an elevator in Vegas not long after the show ended. He had some big ass bodygaurds with him. For some reason I just get a kick out of this one....I think it's the pop culture ....

Craig T Nelson - On the set of Fire Next Time (I think that was the name of the made for tv crap). Either he was much taller or I am much shorter than I thought.

Carrie Ann Moss - On the set of Suspect Zero - I was "Paramedic #1" or some other non descript extra (Did it for fun).

Aaron Eckhardt - Set of Suspect Zero - Seemed waaay into his craft (kudos to him) but he pretty much freaked out all the fellow non descripts.

Chris Eyre - Director of Smoke Signals - At the Taos Talking Pictures Festival. Drank quite a bit of Mezcal with him. Amazing time, and an incredibly nice person, it was great seeing someone really enjoying the success of doing something he loved. Hopefully he still has that passion for his work. BTW, watch Smoke signals if you haven't seen it yet.

Val Kilmer - At a Lucky Dube concert in Santa Fe - Had backstage passes but we didn't want to bug him.

Francis Ford Coppola - At one of his places in Belize - (Blancaneaux) - Amazing place - you MUST go! I stayed away from him as everyone there said he was an ass. If you go, be sure to take the hike down to one of the lower waterfalls and "enjoy" yourselves in one of the pools.....a wonderful place.

For various reasons these are the ones that stand out in my mind.

I used to work in a restaurant in Vancouver that would get lots of celebs, and I've served a few. Most of the Canucks, at one time or another, tons of basketball players from when we had the Grizzlies, and Keri Russell gave me a dirty look one day when I asked her name, but the coolest person I've ever served was Jimmy Paige, in town for a Paige and Plant concert. And I spent about 2 hours playing the dumbest horse-racing game ever in Caesar's Palace with Grant Fuhr.

I knew I'd forget somebody. I met Vincent Price over 20 years ago when he was a visiting lecturer at my university. At the lecture, he told the most marvelous story about "House of Wax," and I still chuckle when I think about it.

--- for those who haven't seen "House of Wax," it's a story about a guy (Vincent Price) who rebuilds a burned-down wax museum by kidnapping people and dipping them into a vat of hot wax and using them as the display figures. At the end, Price meets his fate and makes the obligatory fall into his own vat of hot wax while still ALIVE---

One evening in NYC, he walked past a retrospective theater that was showing "House of Wax" and he decided to go in and watch. He figured it had been years since he'd seen it on the big screen, and thought it would be fun. So, he bought his ticket and slipped quietly into his seat after the movie had already started.

Vincent Price said that as he watched the film, it became obvious that the two young girls sitting directly in front of him had never seen the movie before. He delighted in watching their reactions throughout the film (screams, jumps, breathless questions back and forth, etc.). Then, as the movie ended and the credits began to roll, one of the girls turned to the other and asked, "Do you think he's really dead?"

Of course, you KNOW what he did. He leaned forward, grabbed each girl by the shoulder, and said, "DON'T COUNT ON IT, BWAH HA HA HA HA HA!"

I would love to have seen that.

I was at a Cubs game in 2004 and Katie Holmes' seats were a couple rows in front of mine. She had thrown out the first ball, and was on the field before the game. About the second inning there she was 2' in front of me in the aisle.

I've also briefly met a few sports personalities at various games or events: Bob Feller (HoF Pitcher), Hersey Hawkins (former NBA player), Elton Brand (NBA player).

I got an email reply once from Mark Cuban (owner of the Dallas Mavericks) from an email I had sent him concerning an appearance he made, if that counts.

Thi isn't about me but my son. He is a great fan of the group 'In Flames' and has always wanted to meet them. To accomplish this he actually managed to get them booked to play in Vancouver, by phoning around , finding a venue and then contacting their management.

He has been given a special pass to the sold out show ( since it exist because of him!) and will definitely be meeting them in just a few weeks. They definitely know him now as he has made them a lot a money in the process !

Since the last time I posted I've met quite a few more. Several Drag Racers and had the chance to talk to kid rock but he was eating in a restaurant with his family trying to be incognito so I left him be. I looked quite a few times and by the look I knew it was him. I just smiled and left it at that. I lived in Michigan when that happened. He also showed up to 131 raceway one day when Alpha Phi and I were there.

For the most part, experience has taught me to, "let them come to you"....if you interact with them, especially in the majority of my encounters where my role was to perform service for them, the more successful you are at treating them the same as you would anyone else, the more willing they are to open up and engage you in conversation.

My experience living and working in Manhattan was that celebrities could come and go in public generally as they pleased, without the public approaching them on the street or ina restaurant. It is different in Atlanta... I saw one customer seated at a table near a famous pro athlete, get up and move near the athlete's table, and direct his young son to slip into the seat next to the athlete, while he took a quick picture of his son and the celebrity, as he murmured, "you don't mind....do you"?

I've seen other guests follow celeb guests to the bathroom, or approach their table and attempt to introduce themselves. The public in Manhattan does not behave that way.

Generally, people in show business, when I've asked, will talk about their work. They appreciate normal conversation, and I've never asked for a photo or an autograph. If, as you say, conversation has "progressed" to talking about the weather, and, as in the case of Laura Linney, I want to pay a compliment about a performance or ask the actor what they thought of their own work, I simply ask.... "may I say something"?, or "I saw you perform in (movie title), were you as satisfied with your performance when you viewed it on the screen, as I was?

It's always different....sometimes they thank you when they observe that you have discouraged a member(s) of the public from approaching them. Almost always, they are gracious, unassuming, appreciative of the normalcy of their dining experience. Bishop Tutu .... a small, old man, finishing dinner over coffee with his wife, if you didn't know who he was, it was hard to envision, save for his charismatic smile, his role in recent history. On his way out, he thought to approach the chef, introduce himself and shake his hand, and compliment him fof the quality of the food.....

One guest let me know that he was traveling to Cleveland, OH, later in the week, to be inducted into the rock n roll hall of fame. I heartily congratulated him.

It may not seem it in, here in my 2D persona, but, I am told I have a cordial, low key, "tableside manner", that draws people out. In the dining room where I worked in NYC, the manager designated me to wait on the celebs, because he felt I treated them like people.... It's a bit like a first date with a woman who you find attractive, success in getting a second date comes after a mix of restraint, and just the right amount of warmth and personality,

Well, excluding famous people I've seen acting on stage or playing in a ballgame:

Vince Vaughn (walking down the street in downtown Chicago. Also, at a Cubs game, he was filming a scene for some crappy romantic comedy. Dude is tall.)

Dick Gephart (at an airport in Iowa when he was running for Prez. in 04. Got his autograph for my good friend, who at the time was the head of the Gephart campaign on campus.)

Bill, Hillary, and Chelsea (I was a kid on vacation with my family in Wyoming. We were at a rodeo, and all of a sudden everyone turns away from the action and looks out through the back fence to the road, where a caravan of black SUVs is driving towards the stadium. Turns out to the the then-current President and his family, also on vacation. They sat maybe 20 yards from me. After the rodeo, Bill and Hillary shook hands with everyone outside near the parking lot. It's not often you get patted down by a secret service agent when you're in elementary school! In retrospect, they were at a rodeo in a state that wasn't exactly filled with supporters, but they came out and were really great and gracious with the crowd. I always respected them after that. Also, even then I thought that Chelsea must be living a weird, weird life.)

Can't think of anyone else right now. But it's always been my policy to not bother a celeb if I come across one (politician's excepted, they literally owe us). They don't need to be bothered and really, I don't care that much.

That's cool! I might have met you or your wife. I worked at the resort where Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson got married. They came to the resort about two years ago to visit while she was on tour. Nick suprised her for her birthday. So, I got to meet them both along with the couple that they always hang out with (nick was in a frat with him and they are from Kentucky). The MTV crew was also there filming. So, they stayed around afterwords and chatted with us and hung around to shoot some pool. It was pretty neat getting to meet them since I watched their show religiously! I also got to see the new dog he bought her and got to go into their suit to clean up and add refreshments for them. Nick was soo sweet...but Jessica was a bit snobby...that's for sure..
