SICKENING (baby cut from slain mother's womb)

the scott peterson story was horrific enough, but this is just gruesome & disgustingly sickening.

www.belleville.com/mld/belleville/news/state/10436326.htm

Police find baby they think is child of slain mother
SKIDMORE, Mo. - A baby girl who apparently was cut from her mother's womb was found in good health Friday, a day after the slaying, and two people were in custody, authorities said.

Nodaway County Sheriff Ben Espey said authorities were awaiting DNA testing to confirm the newborn is the child of Bobbi Jo Stinnett, an eight-months-pregnant woman found slain in her northwest Missouri home Thursday. The child was found by FBI agents in eastern Kansas, Kansas Bureau of Investigation spokesman Kyle Smith said in a news release.

"It's about as good as we can get, people," Espey said at a news conference. Authorities planned another news conference for 5:30 p.m. CST. The infant girl was taken to Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center in Topeka, Kan., said Tammy Motley, a hospital spokeswoman.

Stinnett, married for little more than a year and eight months pregnant with her first child, was fatally attacked Thursday afternoon. Authorities expanded their search for the baby into surrounding states Friday, hoping to find the infant in time to offer much needed medical attention.

Missouri State Highway Patrol Sgt. Sheldon Lyon said authorities were questioning a man and a woman who were in the same place as where the baby was found. A red Honda hatchback matching a description offered earlier by police was in the driveway of the home.

In Kansas, the state's bureau of investigation issued a public "secondary alert" Friday seeking help in finding the girl, which doctors said could have suffered a variety of traumas during the assault, including a lack of oxygen. But the girl could survive if treated.

"Ninety-five percent are going to do pretty well given a modest amount of medical attention," said Dr. Perry Clark, medical director of the neonatal intensive care unit at The University of Kansas Hospital.

Espey said investigators know Stinnett was still alive within an hour of being found around 3:30 p.m. Thursday. Paramedics tried to revive the young woman, who was pronounced dead later at St. Francis Hospital in Maryville.

Espey was still frustrated Friday afternoon that it took hours for a statewide Amber Alert to be issued. It didn't appear until about 12:30 a.m.

"We had a live baby, and I thought that should qualify as an Amber Alert," he said. "The information I was getting was that we didn't have enough information such as hair color, eye color, skin complexion, size and weight."

Stinnett's body was taken to Kansas City for an autopsy by the Jackson County medical examiner. Espey expected it would establish she was strangled and resisted the attack.

"The autopsy is going to show us there was some blond hair probably found in her hands," the sheriff said. "That would also help us with the DNA."

Espey said there was no indication of forced entry into Stinnett's small white home in this community of about 500, located north of St. Joseph in the extreme northwest corner of Missouri.

The sheriff said Stinnett worked at Kawasaki Motors Manufacturing in Maryville. Her husband was at work at the time and is not a suspect, he said.

Espey said early Friday that investigators were looking for a car that had been reported seen in the driveway at the Stinnett home on Thursday afternoon, a red two-door Honda hatchback from the late 1980s to early 1990s. He said that at about 12:45 a.m. officers in Atchison County saw a car that appeared to match that description and began chasing it, but lost sight of it after its lights were turned off.

Chris Smock and his wife Elaina went to school with Bobbi Jo Stinnett and live right behind the Stinnett's house. The couple, who found out about the killing while they were at work, said they were "shocked and horrified."

"It's not your average everyday thing, of course," Chris Smock said. "I think Skidmore will react the same way any town would react. I mean, how would you react?"

Woman Murdered, Fetus Taken
An Amber Alert has been issued for the child of Bobbi Jo Stinnett, a pregannt woman murdered in Skidmore, Missouri between 3pm and 4pm yesterday. Her child, an 8-month white female fetus, was extracted from her body at the time, and it's not known whether the child survived. The suspect is a woman believed to have blonde hair and who might be driving a red vehicle. Contact Nodaway County Sheriff's Office at (660) 582-7451 or (660) 582-7451.*
Update: A baby has been found in Kansas whom authorities believe is Stinnet's child, pending the results of a DNA test. They are still investigating an unrelated lead as well; however, they are confident enough that this is Stinnet's baby that they've turned her over to Stinnet's husband.
Update: Police have arrested Lisa M. Montgomery who, they say, had admitted strangling Bobbi Jo Stinnett and cutting the baby from her womb. Montgomery then lied to her husband about having given birth to the girl.

it just seems really morbid to me to slay a mother for the sole purpose of removing the baby to pass off as your own.

*shudders*

It is bad how the mother was still alive when the baby was removed... really distubing.

If life was a fairy tale, that baby would grow up to be Queen.

Reminds me of Chief Wiggum...

"Oh my God, it just disappeared. It's a ghost car!"

Seriously though, this is such a disturbing story. In the name of science, however, I can't help but wonder how the woman was cut, anatomically speaking.

First off, this is really sickening. That anyone would really do such a thing truly horrifies me..

Secondly, the grammar and layout of the badly written article that was quoted first is also sickening.

Has anyone considered the dramatic political and legal implications of this case?
They charged the woman who committed this crime with murder and kidnapping. The kidnaping charge is for the fetus. The federal statute concerning kidnapping states that you must kidnap a "person." If this woman is convicted, it would seem that it would create a federal precedent, binding on every court in the land, that a fetus is a person. Surely, the federal posecutors just haven't taken the time to consider this.

The mother was 8 months along....the "fetus" was viable and able to breathe on its own etc.....I dont see any probelm with the kidnapping charge.

This is wrong on so many levels. I don't care if this woman pleads insanity and is truly the nut job she is making herself out to be. She does not belong on this planet. Sick fuck!

This apparently has happened before, though I don't remember any of these stories being national headlines.

Quote:
Cases in which a fetus is cut from the mother are rare. But it is not unprecedented:

• Last year in Holdenville, Okla., a woman allegedly shot to death an acquaintance and cut out the victim's 6-month fetus. The next day the woman, who had convinced her husband she was pregnant, brought the dead fetus to a hospital. The 37-year-old woman was charged with first-degree murder and kidnapping.

• In 2000 near Cleveland, a woman allegedly shot to death a pregnant neighbor before cutting the victim open and removing the nearly full-term fetus. The baby boy survived. The 39-year-old suspect committed suicide as police arrived at her home to question her. The woman had convinced her husband that she was pregnant.

• Also in 2000, in a Nevada motel, a 31-year-old California woman asphyxiated her pregnant niece and cut the victim's baby out with a kitchen knife. The niece had changed her mind about letting the aunt adopt the baby. The boy died.

• In 1996 in Tuscaloosa, Ala., a woman shot to death a teenage friend and removed the victim's full-term baby. The baby girl survived and was raised by her maternal grandmother. The killer was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

• In 1995 near Chicago, a couple who could not conceive a child shot to death a mother and removed the victim's full-term fetus from the womb with a knife or scissors. The couple also killed two older children, but the baby boy survived. The 28-year-old woman and her boyfriend each were sentenced to death.

• In 1987 in Albuquerque, N.M., a woman later judged to be mentally ill abducted a pregnant woman outside a prenatal care clinic, strangled her and removed the victim's 8½-month fetus with a car key. Prosecutors said the 20-year-old killer, who was sentenced to life in prison, had been desperate for a child. The baby girl survived.
