Getting Medieval on your ass

Isn't the important thing that he was thinking of her and took the time to write her a letter? Who cares what the medium is, she's lucky to have a guy who obviously cares for her so. My girl is thrilled even just to get a phone call from when I am at work. Why? because it shows that I am thinking of her when we're not together. And that's all she wants to know and be reminded of.

All these lame relationship rules are bogus. If his heart tells him the best method of communication is the way he chose, then so be it.

Crazy

Well, I must say that it was a very romantic letter, albeit it was typed. It made me cry, and...well....that's saying something. See baby, you CAN express yourself :-D

Something I just found out with Windows XP and bad hardware, if you get random blue screen messages (different STOP error everytime) even when booting off the XP Setup CD, you have bad RAM. Swap out the RAM and you system should be solid. Windows 2000/XP really are good OSs.

Windows is definitely getting better, but it still has some (large) flaws, that can do things like make you lose your work if you haven't saved.

At least losing something like that (and getting you so pissed off) should make you remember to save in the future (as everyone's said). I've found that when I do something really stupid like that (no offense, I've lost a ton of work before that same way).. I tend to save right away/turn on autosave in word/whatever... I also get in the habit of hitting CTRL-S (or :w in vi ) every few sentences.... of course, I'm a nerd.. auto-save may work for you

I definitely understand elwoodblues43's frustration. Hardware and software can always be replaced but data is unique and precious. Was it the OS or the application that crashed? Not that I'm a big Windows fan but it could just be the crappy program and the OS had nothing to do with anything...

Check the tmp file as suggested, enable auto save in Word. Do manual save everytime you finish a paragraph. I hate Windows, too, stopped paying for it since DOS 6.22. Just don't feel like making contributions to the MS empire, not my hard earned money!!

Save early and save often when in the world of MS-Winders...

It's a painful lesson but this remedy will protect you in the future.

OS is irrelevant...you never know when disaster will strike, when the power will go out, or when hardware will die....SEASO applies to all computer systems across the board

The same thing can happen on any OS that you use, NOT just windows. Don't flame me because I'm not joining in on the MS bashing here. I use linux and love it (see computer section, Latch and I flame each other over various Linux distros, and he knows gentoo blows). Anyway, save everything. It's data, non-existent in the real world. Easy come, and as you found out, easy go.

Just don't blame all of Windows because you have a single issues with it (or do you have more??)

I won't start, as it's not in the computing forum... just, I wish I could live in a delusional world like you, bendsley .

I still think Windows is the issue. While other OS's have problems (and "Acts of God" can occur), Windows seems to have it's problems more than other OSs. People sometimes talk about having to do a (weekly/monthly) reboot of Windows. You just don't hear about that with MacOS/Linux boxes.

As I said though, Windows is getting better (you don't hear about the "weekly/monthly reboot" issue anymore).

It's hard to refund money that was never paid.

Anyway, I've used XP since the day it came out (literally) and it never locks up. Make sure you keep it updated and have a high quality PSU.
