bomb blast at Yale
http://www.yaledailynews.com/article.asp?AID=22881
Editors' Note: Please check yaledailynews.com throughout the evening and the following days for more on this story. ----- A bomb exploded inside the mailroom at the Yale Law School Wednesday, police said. There were no immediate reports of injuries. A fire department dispatcher said crews were on the scene but had no details. Barbara Safriet, an associate dean at the law school, said fire officials told her that there were no injuries reported, but crews were still checking the building. New Haven police spokeswoman Bonnie Winchester also said early reports indicated the explosion was in a mail room, and said it might have affected more than one room. Witnesses reported a loud boom and flying debris shortly before 5 p.m. Police shut down the city block around the law school. Alexandra Alperovich, a law school student, said she was sitting in the student lounge when she heard the explosion. She saw a wall to the alumni lounge collapse. "It was very smoky. Everything started falling and I just ran out right away," she said. Alperovich said she wasn't sure whether anyone was in the alumni lounge at the time. She said she couldn't tell where explosion originated. Sari Bashi, another law school student, said she was about to get into an elevator when she heard the explosion. "There was a lot of debris and dust coming down. Some doors to a classroom have blown out," she said. The incident came as the nation was on elevated alert for possible terrorist attacks and several hours after President Bush -- a Yale alumnus -- visited the state to speak at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy graduation ceremony in New London. A spokeswoman for the FBI in New Haven said members of the agency's Joint Terrorism Task Force were dispatched to the scene. "We treat this kind of incident the same no matter what alert color we're at," she said. -- Staff reports and the Associated Press Copyright © 1995-2003 Yale Daily News Publishing Company, Inc. That is comedy. Not that people were hurt, if any, but that a highly regarded institution like Yale could be easily destroyed. Must have been a disgruntled pointdexter who didn't make the cut. Watch out Princeton!

There is MUCH significant history there, And the architecture is incredible. I lived near there for much of my life, went to the library, crawled in the catacombs underneath when I was young, celebrated & partied with the students, and even almost went there myself. The students there are exceptional, and very diverse Not just blue blood, but ALL ranges. Hell, I remember the student putting up a wooden protest shelter against apartheid in South Africa in the middle of the courtyard. For anyone to have attempted to demolish this entity is unhonorable & despicable, and shows their ignorance to the Nth degree. Why should you cheer the destruction of something so significant & beautiful? |

They're making it sound like less on national news. They claim that no damage occurred, and windows weren't even blown out.
They also say that it may have been a sophisticated timed device that was ditched near the end of the timer countdown when the intended target was unreachable or inaccessible. This is probably the idea of fun for a person whose twisted sense of humor derives pleasure from doing this right after a national terrorist threat. Remember the end of "Road Trip" What if a disturbed, desparate student did this to delay exams? |

Rogue49 and Whoaitsz, you look too deep into my comment. I merely stated that people think their safe. "It can never happen to me, it can never happen here, it will NEVER happen period!" Well, I've got news for you, it can ALWAYS happen.
