Goddamn! This totally fucking sucks. Who would do such a shitty thing?!
|
I'm hearing it was a crazed fan, but who knows. I also heard its the bassist who is dead :( Whoever else it was that died, without Dime the band is done for.
|
Holy shit!!! Dimebag Darrell is dead!?! WOAH! That is such a terrible terrible thing! Dimebag is a modern legend! wooooooooah.
|
Gotta love the sympathy for Dimebag Darrell, but no expressed concern for the others...
|
I echo Mac's sentiments. I mean, didn't he write most of Metallica's early music? This guy was a legend in every respect. R.I.P

Which is what's so wrong with the whole situation. Simply because the guy is more widely known (although I've never heard of him), his loss is more tragic than the other four. It's a sick way of thinking.
|
What about the poor bouncer who gave his life trying to save others?

Damn that's some fucked up shit. I never was a big Pantera fan, but Dimebag Darrell kicked ass. RIP for all those who died.

http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/12/09/ni...ting/index.html They confirmed that Darrell is dead, and didn't ID release the name of the other band member yet. Police don't release names until next-of-kin are notified, and since Vinnie was Darrell's brother, he would be the one notified, and therefore the police could release his name immediately. Eyewitnesses say that the guitarist (Pat Lachman, also in Halford and Diesel Machine,) was shot four times, which means that he's most likely the other band member who died. The bouncer who tried to pull the gunman off of Lachman was also shot at close range and killed. |
I don't think you're an ass. I don't shed tears for those that die, either. It is sad yes, but better to move on. I just find it strange that you have some kind of attatchment to someone you don't really even know.
|
An employee there posted on an MTV forum that it was a guitar tech, not the guitarist, who was killed.
He also said that the shooter was screaming about breaking up Pantera and ruining his life. |

Hey now!! Im old and I know who he is....(I like big band music too so thats no excuse BOR ahahahaha)
|
a sad day...truly.
|
This sucks. Although I feel sorrow for all that were killed I feel more sorrow knowing that Dimebag is dead. He was an animal. For those that don't understand why people place more focus on someone like this, here's my reason. The man made good music. Some of that music is a a part of me. His death brings death to a very small part of me. I can't really explain it in other terms than that.
|
Was his name really Dimebag, as in legally?
They keep calling him Dimebag on ABC news and it sounds ...odd. |

Dimebag contributed so much to the betterment of society! We should all mourn his death. Wait a minute...his name was "Dimebag." Nevermind. |
Quite possibly going to be one of the biggest tragedies for dallas this year. I remember listening to damageplan do local shows trying to get a national break and now to see it end this way. Truly saddening.

it is a very sad day in the world of metal. imho he was one of the most talented and influential guitarist to come out of the 90's. I only got to see pantera live once, and just saw damageplan in september. Dimebag's guitar work was always awe inspiring

We don't need you trolling on this thread. Go somewhere else. People here are mourning the death of one of the top guitarists in the music industry. Look at the reaction Kurt Gobang got and that sorry piece of shit killed himself. This is probably the most tragic event for metal since the death of Cliff Burton. I never gave Damage Plan a chance because I was pissed that Pantera broke up. I had been holding out hope for a reunion tour. I guess that won't happen. |
good reference to burton...but i think this is far more analagous to randy rhodes. had rhodes stayed alive, there is no telling where rock might be today. and with darrell gone, we'll have no way of knowing where metal might have gone.
if its all the same though, my vulgar display of power still sounds every bit as good as it did the day i bought it...on cassette. :) |
Rhodes only because they were both guitarists but Burton was the one of the most innovative bassists in rock music. He is the one who guided the change in metallica that took place between Kill 'Em All and Ride the Lightening. He gave them the melody.

It doesn't surprise me that it was a disgruntled Phil fanboy. I like Phil more than I liked Dime and Vinnie but the collapse of Pantera falls mostly on Phils shoulders
|
edited by me. trolls go spend time somewhere else please.

Damnit first we lose Dave Williams now Dimabag......god damnit. I guess I better go crack some Damage Plan(or Pantera) in Memory of Dimebag! R.I.P. Darrell |
They give me cat scratch fever
Cat scratch fever I got it bad, scratch fever Cat scratch fever What a shit day... RIP Dimebag |
This is tragic news indeed for everyone involved. Being a Pantera fan, I've read a lot about Dimebag from people he knew and he sounds like he was a very cool person. His music has made huge impact in the Metal arena and he will definitely be missed.
We live in a sick sad world. R.I.P. |

...an inspired artist, grew up in his dad's studio, music was his life.
an ugly crime. |

I always hate to hear about somebody getting killed for no good reason, but I can't spare any of my limited sympathy on a guy who purposely chose the name "Dimebag." Why do people place such importance on drugged up musicians and actors? |
First of all, everyone take a step back and calm down. I don't want to see this thread get out of control. That includes baiting and overreacting to honest opinions.
That said, this was a tragedy for all who died and their families. |
Spectre good call an the calming of emotions, I just read the whole thread and most of it sounds like flame bait. But I must answer the questions from tyhe post before yours.

Some posts on this thread are a prime example of what TFP is not, it disgusting that people would take this opportunity to make snide comments about dead people and fans of Darrell. My sympathy go out to all those affected by this situation RIP |

no it was first thing in the mornig..... but why are you asking me?? o u may be a spelling natzi |

true this thread is not called mourning for darrel.. but by reading 96% of the posts you can see this is a place tfpers have come to mourn him.... good report... |

Now, to get back on topic in the light of the tragedy.... I never really knew much of the guy, but I definitely know he had a large following. I remember a kid in a music class I recently took did a final report on Pantera, and more specifically Darrel. He was a really nice guy and was such a loyal fan for really pure reasons. Beyond Darrel, I'll pray for this kid and the other many fans as well cause I'm sure there's many saddened by this. |
In order to avoid "offending" anybody else and unnecessarily dragging this thread further off topic, I will not respond.

Why could it not have been danzig? That's all i want to know.

I really dont have much to say about this, or to be more honest, I honestly dont know what to say. I've been listening to Pantera since I was like 13, and I really dug Damageplan too. This is just terrible. While reading as much as I could about it, I found that Blabbermouth has posted a bunch of other musician's opinions about this. If you're interested click here. |

I don't understand how people get so emotional and attached to musicians they never met and don't really know. I suppose this goes for all celebrities, but it seems almost cult like with musicians.
|
I would personally mourn the bouncer more than I would Dimebag. He could have run away and lived, but instead, he charged the gunman and tried to stop his rampage, and gave his life trying. That man is a true hero.

Glad to see we managed to get back on track....and act like adults.
It is always sad to see ANYONE killed, and particularly so, when such senseless violence is the cause. |

I've been listening to Pantera since Vulgar Display of Power came out in '92. The first concert I ever went to was Pantera, Sepultura and Prong in Spokane, WA in the summer of 1994. Since that day, I joined one of the biggest, most loyal fan bases in music. There's a reason why a band that got zero recognition and zero airplay was able to crate as big a following as they did. Their music helped me through some really tough times and communicated a very positive message. A message of inner strength, individuality, letting go of past pain, not caring what others think of you, and the concept of being UNSCARRED. Listening to their music has helped shape who I have become today and I am a better person today for having listened to Pantera's music. Losing Darrell is a tremendous blow to a huge amount of people. People who don't know their music aren't going to get it. I'm trying to explain why losing Darrell is as big a deal as it is but I don't know if it will ever come across to people who's lives have never been touched by his music.
He was a guitar genius. To my fellow Pantera fans, I am with you in spirit. In Darrell's memory, join me and smile with a Black Toothed Grin. |

Definately sent a shock through my system. I guess I just realized how vulnerable human beings can be. Perceptions are so far from reality sometimes. I thought of Dimebag as an indestructable metal god.
Definately a sad day for metal. However, his death is not a cause of grievance. Nothing can stop us from enjoying his music. Dimebag may be at a better place now, but his music lives on right here. Here on earth. |

He wa the head of secuirty for the band...but bouncer is about right! |

My heart goes out to any victim of this sort. I never was much into hard rock. And never heard the name "Dimebag Darrell". But the passing of any artist (or anyone else for that matter) is a sad loss.
R.I.P But I feel a special loss for the bouncer. I was in security for many years. It takes true courage not to run in that kind situation. But stay and do your duty, a duty that rarely pays more then $10 and hour. |
Being a Columbusite, I got to listen to this on the local AM talk radio station the following afternoon. I'm not a big metal fan, but I'm glad to see that unlike on the talk radio, nobody has made the tasteless "This is the 9/11 of the metal world" comment. Tragic? yes. But not to the tune of 3000+ deaths tragic.
