I'm surprised no one has asked for pictures?!? What’s she look like? and how does one hack a webcam? After all doesn’t she have to turn it on?

My bet is the kid got her to strip on the web cam and this is her cover-up story. I don’t feel sorry for her cause I think her story is made up.

1. How did the guy go from meeting her on a chat room to her house?
2. even find out who her bf was to send him the pictures. I call bs

Sorry, I can't find pity for people who invite stupidity and then can't understand why they are taken advantage of.
I'll bet you wouldn't be saying that if your girlfriend (or wife, if applicable) was the one who left the cam on.

Fortunately (or not), that is not the case. I don't believe that my wife should be less responsible for her actions because she's my wife, and I don't feel more or less sorry for her because she's my wife.

I maintain that I am responsible for my actions and their consequences, and I expect the same from others. Learning that lesson can be painful, especially if I have to repeat it over and over because I refuse to accept that I'm the one who's responsible for me.

This story screams out bullshit from beginning to end. The girl is covering for being naughty by making up stories about the evil hacker who just happened to take nude pictures of her and send them to her boyfriend. I've never even heard of anyone hacking into a webcam before, and I doubt anyone else has either. Assuming even that he did, what would be the chances of monitoring the cam at the exact moment she happens to be changing to catch the pictures?

Yeah, we should feel sorry for her, because no one should have to take pains to avoid being wronged.

I think its a pretty asshole thing to say we shouldn't feel sorry for her. As was said before in the thread, if you have a shitty lock on your house and it is broken into, one wouldn't say "well damn, thats your own fault for having a shitty lock"

Anyway, I think saying it ruined her entire life may be a bit melodramatic. I mean, yeah, its upsetting, some perv spied on her through the webcam; however, not quite a "life ruining" experience, if you ask me

We don’t feel sorry for her because her story is BS!! Come on?!?! you really believe this:
1. Stupid girl meets a RANDOM guy in an online chat room
2. RANDOM guy then finds her house brakes in and HACKS HER WEBCAM?!?!
3. RANDOM GUY then sees her changing on her webcam
4. RANDOM guy finds out who her bf is and sends him the pictures??!?!? (maybe she has her bf in her aim profile or something It can be done but the steps leading up to it are bullshit and who would risk braking into someone’s house to setup a webcam?!?!")
5. Stupid girls life is RUINED

Come on, are you all that gullible?

So did they catch this guy?!? If he knows her well enough to find her house shouldn’t she know enough about him to bust him? What BS

I like the part where she says life is ruined for her. Chances are, this kid hasn't had much hardship in her life so far.

Story doesn't say he broke into her house. Just that he hacked her webcam... He probably doesn't know where she lives.

It's not at all hard to do. I could teach a fifth-grader to do it in half an hour, even if he isn't particularly bright. The most popular script-kiddie "h4x0r" tools can do this with a mouse click. People get those all the time due to poor security. Sure, the rest of the story reeks of BS, but this is one part that is 100% possible.

I do feel sorry for her, in part because she obviously doesn't own a firewall for her PC. The hacker would have to be pretty good to hack through a firewall. I'm sure they would be on to bigger and better things if they had that skill level!

Hell yeah we should feel sorry for her, somebody saw her when she didn't want to be seen. Thats a breach of her privacy. Makes me wonder though if she has ever done anything on that web cam she might not be proud of...

I am with you on this one. This smells funny.
I don’t use a web cam, but have been to some sites that chat with them. When people don’t want you to see them they point them up, down, at the screen.....
Sounds to me like she was showing off and got caught. She still has rights and they were violated, for that I do feel for her

Hell, if this turns out to be true and hot girls are out there changing naked slowly in front of web cams that can be hacked by stupid 5th graders, I'll be the next guy you see turn up in the news for doing it. The temptation would be too great for me. Dont worry, I'll make videos and send them to people who ask nicely.

Yeah, the term "hacking into a webcam" is a little misleading. He probably did not actually hack into her webcam, he just got some kind of Administrator access to her machine. This is very easy, perhaps even trivial on Windows machines. He could've used any number of DCOM exploits, or maybe she didn't use a password on her machine, or maybe she inadvertantly gave this guy her password with a little social engineering.

Also, I can say your doubts about it happening before are wrong. It has happend and many tools exist for doing exactly what this guy did.

As for the chances of him watching her at the exact moment of nakedness... Dude, use a little common sense. The moment he got access to her webcam and realized the potential for catching her nude, he probably watched that thing 24/7 until he got what he needed. I don't know about you, but I usually get naked at least once a day when I get in the shower, so it wouldn't take someone that long to catch me changing.

Really, this story isn't hard to believe and judging by the novice comments she made about the attack, I'd say she really didn't know this could even happen to her. For that reason, I must feel sorry for her. It's one thing if you know something bad can happen to you and you don't do what you should to prevent it... it's another if you have no idea. Now, if three months from now the same thing happens to her, I'll call her a dumbass ... but for now, I feel sorry.
